Events Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Council Meeting– Rayalaseema Zone
ZREAC meeting of Rayalaseema Zone for the year 2019 was
conducted on 18th April, 2019 at HRS, Anantharajupeta. Sri
Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary
to Govt of A.P was the chief guest and Smt. M.Usha Devi, Hon’ble
Board Member, Dr.YSRHU was guest of honour. Hon’ble Vice-
Chancellor stressed upon the importance of value addition and
production of pesticide residue free products for export. Dr. J.
Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension along with officers of
Department of Horticulture co-chaired the technical sessions. Scientists, progressive farmers and
Department officials discussed on climatic conditions, problems
and needs in different horticultural crops and finalized the
research and extension gaps to be addressed. Seven technical
bulletins i.e four from HRS, Anantharajupeta, one each from CRS,
Petluru, HRS, Mahanandi and KVK Vonipenta were released
during the meeting.
Vice-Chancellor’s Visit
Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-Officio Secretary to
Govt. of A.P visited College of Horticulture, Parvathipuram on
22.04.2019 and reviewed the programmes. Visited laboratories,
hostels and library also addressed the staff and students.

State Level Technical Programme Meeting
Eleventh State Level Technical Programme (SLTP)
meeting of Dr.YSRHU was held from 24th - 27th April,
2019 at University Campus. Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary,
IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of
A.P inaugurated the programme in the presence of
Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar & Univ. Head (Pl. Path.),
Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture & Univ. Head (Spices, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Crops
), Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of PG Studies & Univ. Head (Fruit Science), Dr. J. DilipBabu, Director of
Research & Univ. Head (Post Harvest Technology), Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs & Univ.
Head (Ento.), Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations and Univ. Head (Plant Physiology, Bio-
chemistry & Microbiology) and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension & Univ. Head (Genetics &
Plant Breeding). Reviewed the work done during 2018-19 and finalized the technical programmes
for 2019-20 by the university heads of Dr.YSRHU and outside experts namely Dr.Prakash Patil,
Project Coordinator, AICRP on Fruits, Dr.P.Venkata Rao, Former Dean, Central Agricultural
University, Imphal, Dr. V.Krishna Rao, Former University
Head & Professor, Dept. of Plant Pathology, ANGRAU,
Dr.P.D.Kamala Jayanthi, Principal Scientist (Ento.), IIHR,
Bengaluru, Dr.P.Uma Maheswari, Professor (Ento.), PJTSAU.
All the scientists from research stations presented the work
done during 2018-19 and the proposed technical
programme of work for the year 2019-20.
Annual Action Plan Meeting of KVKs, A.P
The Annual Action Plan meeting of KVKs in Andhra
Pradesh for 2019-20 was conducted by ATARI and or-
ganized by ANGRAU at RARS, LAM, Guntur on 29th and
30th April, 2019. Dr. V. Damodara Naidu, Vice-
chancellor, ANGRAU was the chief guest for inaugural
session. Dr.Y.G.Prasad, Director, ATARI, Dr. J. Dilip-
Babu, Director of Research, Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director
of Extension, Dr D.Sreenivasulu, Director of Extension, SVVU, Dr. R.K.Mathur, Director, IIPOR, Dr. P.
Rambabu, Director of Extension, Dr. N.V.Naidu, Director of Research, Dr. L. Uma Devi, Dean, Home
Science ANGRAU, Principal Scientists from ATARI, Principal Scientists of RARS, Lam, Scientists
from SVVU, CRIDA, Scientists of KVKs of AP have participated in the program. During these two
days deliberations, the action plan of each discipline of all the KVKs of AP was discussed and
finalized.
Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio
Secretary to Govt. of AP visited KVK, Vonipenta on 19.04.2019
and interacted with scientists on developmental activities going
on. Suggested to mingle foarming community and establish good
contact with the farmers in the operational area. Dr.R.V.S.K
Reddy, Director of Extension and Sri M.Krishna Reddy, Estate
Officer and Dr.M.Ramakrishna, Officer incharge, KVK, Vonipenta accompanied Vice Chancellor dur-
ing the visit.

Education
Training Programme on Fertigation
One day training programme was conducted by The Fertilizer As-
sociation of India, Southern Region organized at CoH, Anantharaju-
peta on 18.04.2019. In this programme Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary,
IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-officio Secretary to Govt of A.P., Dr.
M.Laxminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. M. Rama-
krishna, Associate Dean addressed the gathering in the college
auditorium. This programme was presided by Mr. YVN Murthy, Regional Head, FAI, Chennai. The
representatives from various viz., M/s.SPIC, M/s.Coromondal Fertilizers, M/s.Metafim, M/s.MFL
provided the information regarding the new technologies in application of water soluble fertilizers.
Staff and students of College of Horticulture have participated in the programme.
College Anniversary Celebrations
Sixth College Anniversary & Farewell Day of the Horticultural
Polytechnic, Nuzvid was celebrated on 22.04.2019.
Dr.M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of
Student Affairs attended as chief guests and congratulated the
winners of various sports, games, cultural and literary events and
motivated the students.
Guest Lectures
Three days training programme on ‘Personality Develop-
ment’ was organized to the 2nd and 3rd year UG students of
CoH, Venkataramannagudem from 22.04.2019 to 24.04.2019.
Motivational speakers Sri S.Sudheer Kumar and Sri Abhishek
from Sudheer Sandra’s Mindify Career and Counselling
Center, Hyderabad has delivered lectures on personality de-
velopment to the students. Sri B.Chennakesavulu, Assistant Professor has co-ordinated the training
programme.
Dr.K.Madhavi reddy, Principal Scientist, Department of Vegetable Science has delivered guest
lecture to the UG and PG students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem on 30.04.2019. Explained about
principles of plant breeding, breeding of self pollinated crops, heterosis breeding, crop improve-
ment in chilli, breeding for biotic and abiotic stresses and vegetable grafting. M.Sc.(Hort.) and Ph.D
students from Department of vegetable science and UG students appearing for JRF exam have
attended the lecture.
Exposure Visit
Second year students of CoH, Anantharajupeta were taken
to Tirupati and Chandragiri Fort on 20.04.2019 (AB
batch) and again on 27.04.2019 (CD batch) on an
exposure and practical visit and showed multiple
components, designs, styles, symmetrical plans,
adornments, objects of garden, parks and various turf
grasses along with landscape architecture. Students also

Dr. V.S.L. Saranya, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS,
Venkataramannagudem has taken up the spraying of
liquid formulation of Isaria fumosorosea @ 5 ml/l water
(prepared in the bio-fertilizer production unit at HRS,
V.R.Gudem) against rugose spiraling whitefly on betel
vine crop in AICRP on MAP&B experimental plot to test
its efficacy.
Research

visited Sri Sreenivasa Garden & Nursery, Preethi Garden & Nursery, Urban Hot (Silparamam) and
identified various ornamental plant. Practiced rolling, mowing of lawn, pruning of Conocarpus
erectus, dibbling of lawn grass at Air Port. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.) and Dr. N.
Vinod Kumar, Teaching Associate (FLA) coordinated the programme.
Extension
Training Programmes
On 18.04.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem con-
ducted valedictory session for 15 days training
programme on ‘Food Processing and Preservation’.
Dr. E. Karuna Sree, Course Director, Dr.
A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah,
Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agri
Extn), Course Coordinators and resource persons have participated the session. A total of 49 BSc.
students having educational background of Home Science and MBN group from the Ch.S.D.St.
Thesesa’s College for Women, Eluru took part in the training program. The trainees were exposed
to theoretical and practical aspects on the food processing and preservation. Dr. B. Srinivasulu,
Registrar, Dr.YSRHU attended as chief guest and Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension as guest of
honor for the valedictory program and mentioned about the entrepreneurship development and
reduction in wastage of food by employing proper preservation
methods. Certificates were distributed to the successfully
completed participants. In this program, Smt.Jyothi Kumari, Asst
Prof., Dept of Home Science, Ch.S.D.St. Thesesa’s College for
Women, Eluru also attended the programme.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharaju-
peta attended a training program as resource person on
‘Harvesting, postharvest precautions and marketing of mango’
and also interacted on plant protection aspects in jasmine and
crossandra at Ramachandrapuram, Chittoor Dist. on 28.04.2019
organized by Department of Horticulture followed by a field visit.

Diagnostic Visits
On 22.04.2019, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited Kadaknath poultry farm at
Vellimilli village and observed symptoms and lesions such as oede-
matous swelling of head, leg paralysis, haemorrhages in proven-
triculous, 20% mortality and suggested treatment with Lixen pow-
der@ 20g in 10l of water, broton liquid @ 5 ml in 10l of water and
also recommended ranikhet disease vaccination to healthy birds.
Monthly fish sampling was conducted to observe the fish growth,
disease incidence and calculation of feed, water quality parameters
under the NFDB pilot project on “Demonstration and performance of
improved fish varieties i.e. Amur common carp and Jayanthi Rohu” at
KVK farm and farmer field at Thelicherla on 24.04.2019.
On 23.04.2019, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited dairy farm of farmer at
Telikicherla village, Nallajerla mandal and examined the health
condition of Ongole cow which is in advanced pregnancy stage,
health condition of animal was good and suggested management
practices to be followed before and after parturition of animal and
also visited intercropping of fodders such as fodder sorghum, hybrid napier Co-4 and pillipesara in
coconut orchards.
On 16.04.2018, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta
visited chilli field for diagnosis of pest and diseases incidence at Mittamanupalle
village of Mydukur Mandal. Observed up ward curling in chillies and
recommended to spray fipronil @ 2ml/l.
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalle
attend a farmers training programme as resource person on
“Awareness camp on cocoa cultivation in tribal area of Visakha-
patnam” organized by ICAR- Central Plantation Crops Research
Institute, Kasaragod, Kerala at Youth Training Centre, Chintapalli
on 30.04.2019 and explained the climatic requirement of cocoa
crop and prevailed climatic condition in the agency area of Visakhapatnam. Later Dr. Choudappa,
Former Director, ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasargad, Kerala visited HRS,
Chintapalli.
Tribal Sub Plan
On 20.04.2019, KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed liver tonics,
antistress mineral and vitamin supplements and basic broadspectrum
antibiotics for combating microbial infections in poultry birds to the
tribal poultry farmers as a part of Entrepreneurship Development
Programme (EDP) under Tribal Sub Plan.

On-Farm Trial
On 24.04.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), Dr. V. Yugand-
har, Research Associate (Hort.) and Dr. V. Nagarjuna, Research
Associate (SS & AC) KVK, Vonipenta visited turmeric fields for
follow-up in OFT at Sunkulagaripalli and Settivaripalli villages of
Mydukur mandal. Scientists collected the data on yield and yield at-
tributing characters and conducted crop cutting experiment and also taken feedback from farmers.
General
Meetings
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Senior Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkatara-
mannagudem participated in one day regional work shop on “Strengthening Buyer – Seller Linkages
for Profitable Cultivation of Medicinal Plants in Andhra Pradesh” organised by NMPB – RCFC
(Southern Region), APMPB & KFRI, Kerala at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur on 30.04.2019
as moderators for technical sessions on “Stake holders’ Interaction & Buyer – Seller interaction
leading to purchase agreement” and “Institutional Initiatives for Promotion of Medicinal Plants” re-
spectively.
Dr.K.Sesha Kiran, Assistant Professor (Pl. Path.), CoH, Venkatara-
mannagudem participated in one day workshop on “MALDI- TOF MS
based microbial Identification” at National Centre for Microbial Re-
source-National Centre for Cell Science, Pune on 24.04.2019. Later
visited National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune on 25.04.2019
and observed the Biological control laboratory, APEDA National Ref-
eral Laboratory for monitoring pesticide residues for export of
grapes and biotechnology laboratory.
Visits
Dr. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) HRS, Anantharajupet
explained about “Biological control of soil borne diseases of
different horticultural crops and other ongoing research projects”
to the 50 progressive farmers from Chinnagottigallu, Chittoor
district visited as a part of their exposure visit on 23.04.2019.
Forty farmers from Krishna district along with three officials from
ATMA & Department of Agriculture, Krishna district visited
Dr.YSRHU university campus and KVK on 23.04.2019. Dr.V.Deepthi,
Scientist (Agri. Extn.) took them around the demonstration units,
vegetable plots and nursery and explained about the cultivation
practices.
Dr. B. Babu Rao, Research Associate, PHTRS, Venkataramanna-
gudem explained about the functioning of fruit sorting and grading
machinery, ripening chamber, cold storage chamber and
pre–cooling chamber at integrated pack house unit to farmers from
Guntur district who visited on 17.04.2019.

A batch of 30 farmers along with Horticulture officer visited CoH,
Anantharajupeta on 24.04.2019 as a part of an exposure visit
organized by RHTI, Chittoor. Dr. Venkata Satish, TA (Hort.), Miss
Lakshmi Prasanna TA, (Ag Extn) and Mr. K. Ravi Kumar, TA (Hort.)
have taken them to the laboratories, fields and explained about
the commercial cultivation of crops existing in the campus.
A batch of 20 farmers visited CoH, Anantharajupeta on 25.04.2019
on an exposure visit i.e Yuva Raithu Vigyanayatra organized by
Society for Development (SFD), SPSR Nellore. Dr. M. Ramakrishna,
Associate Dean and the teaching staff have explained about the
ongoing activities followed by a field visit.

Dr.D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended Phone-in-Live programme on
‘Mamidi thotalalo sasyarakshana’ at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijayawada on 18.04.2019.
Dr.M.Tirupati Reddy, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Vijayarai attended Phone-in-Live programme on
‘Vesavilo pandla thotalalo niti yajamanyam’ at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijayawada on 29.04.2019.
