1 WELCOME Funders Concerned About AIDS presents this fifth annual AIDS Philanthropy Summit against a backdrop of obscured optimism. Today we have the tools to end the epidemic without the resources to deploy them. Even in the United States, only 25% of those with HIV have undetectable viral loads. Globally, the world community remains reluctant to commit the resources needed to halt the spread of the epidemic and spare the lives of those already infected. This year, FCAA is thrilled to present two days of programming conceived and presented by you, our members and partners. The sessions you’ve created to share with your colleagues will focus both on the vital importance of protecting the rights of vulnerable impacted populations and remaining responsive in a shifting landscape. We thank our colleagues at the International Human Right Funders Group for partnering with us in presenting day one of the summit, and also thank our colleagues from Grantmakers in Health, Funders for LGBTQ Issues, and Funders Network on Population, Reproductive Health and Rights for joining us to examine the intersections of these critical issues and to forge collaborative strategies to address shared concerns. FCAA celebrates our recent merger with the European HIV/AIDS Funders Group and welcomes our European colleagues who have traveled to be with us over the next two days. We are excited to be working together to further expand our resource tracking efforts globally, and to invite those funders outside the US and EU to join us in a global network of funders concerned about AIDS. Over the next two days, you can look forward to: • Connecting with more than 140 of your colleagues in attendance; • Learning from and interacting with the emerging voices and visionaries leading the fight against HIV/AIDS around the world; • Discussing with colleagues the future of private philanthropy for HIV/AIDS, and the intersections of public policy and philanthropy at home and abroad; • Identifying emerging gaps and opportunities for collaboration. But the role of FCAA in facilitating a comprehensive, global philanthropic response to AIDS goes on 365 days a year! If you’re a supporter of FCAA’s work, thanks for your support; we look forward to our continuing partnership. If you’ve supported FCAA in the past, we hope you’ll consider re- engaging. And if this is your introduction to FCAA, we hope you’ll find value in our work and decide to become more involved. In addition to financial support, we value involvement in an array of committees that plan for year round programming and publications. Contact us anytime to discuss how you can join us as a Funder Concerned About AIDS. Whatever we do on our own, however effective, cannot compare to what we can achieve if we pool our dollars and our common sense. Alone we can impact the pandemic, together we can end it.
