My primary involvement on Breathless included the design and layout for 9 of the 13 Restaurants on site.

Shown to here is one of the featured restaurants; Black Olive. Black Olive boasts Mediterranean based cuisine directly adjacent to one of the larger, more private pools. Key features include; Fire Features, VIP DIning On the Water and outdoor dining.

Black Olive is designed for informal afternoon dining, and transforms into a more formal, romantic experience in the evening. Designed to accomodate up to 120 occupants.

Angel Unaware Childrens Hospice

Angel Unaware Childrens Hospice is something you wish didn’t exist. The words “Children” and “Hospice” should never be said in sequence. Heartbreakingly they are. For that very reason, you put every ounce of energy, thought, and heart into making this the most comfortable, giving, and loving experience for all who have to walk across that threshold.

Angel Unaware is a Children's Hospice that will be located in Fort Worth, Texas. It will be one of only 3 Children's Hospice's built in North America. It will consist of 10 Respite Care Rooms, 5 Critical Care Suites, Public and Private Outdoor Gardens, Administrative and Support Areas.

Critical Care Suites, also referred to as “End of Life Suites” are meant to feel like home. “Home” was the tone that engulfed every client and user group design meeting. Our number one objective was to create the most comfortable, private, and secure experience for the famillies who would be spending days, weeks, or possibly months at the Angel Unaware Facility.

Child Life Zones

Since 1994 HKS has designed and delivered all of the Child Life Zone projects for Teammates and The Troy Aikman Foundation.

A Child Life Zone is a state-of-the-art, therapeutic play area inside a hospital where pediatric patients and their families can play, learn, laugh, and relax. A sanctuary. A place to learn. A hang-out. A game center. A place to be the star of your own show. A place to connect. A place where a kid can be a kid. The Child LIfe Zone projects I was fortunate enough to help design and develop can be found in Children’s Hospitals in the following cities: Phoenix, AZ; St Paul, MN; Houston, TX; Indianapolis, IN.

Chapel

While designing the Child Life Zone for St Paul, Minnesota's Children's Hospital, We were commissioned to redesign one of the Hospitals Chapels. This was a perfect opportunity to push the boundaries and propose a more innovative design. In collaboration with an incredibly talented collegue we were able to generate this "cloud like" structure by using Grasshopper and Rhino.

In collaboration with the Hospital Maintenance Crew, the panels were CNC’d on site.

The Chapel is currently Under Construction. Estimated completion date is Summer of 2014.

Mason BRT

The Mason Corridor is a five mile Bus Rapid Transit system with a starting point at the existing Downtown Transit Center (DTC) and ending at the new South Transit Center (STC) facility.

The BRT will operate in mixed traffic on South Mason Street for approximately two miles in the downtown core of Fort Collins. For the remaining three miles, the BRT will operate in a dedicated guideway located between South Mason Street and the BNSF rail right-of-way. The guideway runs through the Colorado State University Campus where three new stations will be located.

The Mason BRT system will promote transit use as well as economic development by connecting neighborhoods with urban centers, and eventually linking Fort Collins with other regional communities.

Inspire

Born and raised in Central Illinois., I am often asked “How did you become interested in Architecture?” I’ve never really had a direct answer for this. Maybe it was inspriation from my father - always fixing or building something. Maybe it was because my brother liked to draw - so I had to make sure I could draw better than him. Maybe it was because I wanted to rebel against the flat landers! Whatever it was that infected me with a love for architecture, I am forever grateful.

Now the number one question I get asked, as well as ask myself; “What Inspires you?”. And that’s and that’s always been an easy answer: Everything.

People, Art, Landscape, Built Forms, Natural Forms, Nature, Love, Music,; I could go on forever. In every aspect of life, there is inspiration. One of my favorite medias, other than pen and paper, is the photograph. The following pages are just glimpses of inspiration I have found over the years.
