CELEBRATING 46 YEARS OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Born in 1974 in Tehran and formally educated in graphic arts, Mahsa Shoeleh departed from the orthodox

genres of painting early in her career. She blends a rich ancient Persian artistic heritage with a modern style of her own to expresses her inner reflections on life through a deli-cate interplay of visual harmonies and the flow of bold colors.

Her hybrid technique of applying colors by fingertips over a flat-brushed background creates a tapestry of brilliant hues textured richly on her canvas that transform emotions into unique images of people, animals, flora and sometimes abstract shapes.

Mahsa’s distinctive signature style is reminiscent of childhood innocence and seeks to convey a sense of emotional reality with an embedded ray of hope.

Dreamland is a cooperative effort of Showcase Gallery juried members. Full details are available at the OCFA website; http://ocfinearts.org/dreamland.html.

President’s Message

—Stephen Austin, OCFA President

Thanks to the diligent efforts of Jila Hakimi, director of Bear

Street Gallery & Artist’s Studios, and intern Alexandra Sherwood, OCFA is pleased to introduce two new interns, Thi Phoi Luu and Elizabeth Goldman.

Thi Phoi Luu is an Orange Coast College student who is helping us with our QuickBooks challenges. She is enrolled in Business-Accounting at OCC and has worked with several tax services in the capacity of enrolled agent. She joined OCFA in May and has been instrumental in helping us better organize our accounting by setting up new systems. We really appreciate her commitment to our organization and our cause!

Our other new intern, Elizabeth Gold-man, currently attends Golden West college with a major in Business.

At OCFA, she is learning the ‘business side of art,’ working with the Excel Pro-gram doing bookkeeping and learning how bills and payables are organized in an office.

Also, as Elizabeth tells us, she and her fellow interns are “constantly thinking of new ways to promote and market the association.”

Updating the website, Facebook and Twitter is just one of the ways they are helping to spread the word for OCFA.

“This internship is aiding me in learning how a business is operated from ac-counting to marketing,” notes Elizabeth.

“I look forward to continuing to work with OCFA to increase its notoriety and to learn more in the process.”

The OCFA internship program serves both our organization and the students who depend on encouragement and opportunities made available within their schools and community programs.

OCFA supports the arts in many ways, one being our presence in the Santora Building of the Arts in the heart of the downtown Santa Ana Artist Village. Be sure to join us at AvantGarden – The Art Gallery during the next First-Saturday Art Walk on July 7 as the Santora Building celebrates its 84th anniversary.

This historic building has recently been the center of controversy, with a potential sale of the building causing concern for the future of the arts in this lively community. Earlier this month the potential buyer backed out of escrow, bringing temporary closure to the immediate concerns.

We owe many thanks to OCFA member Alicia Rojas, president of the United Artists of Santa Ana (UASA), who spearheaded a campaign to bring awareness to city officials of the issues at hand.

By the way, AvantGarden is always on the lookout for aspiring and already-accomplished artists to display their art. For those interested, get in touch with Director Ellen Seefeldt.

Showcase Gallery announces “Dreamland,” opening in early July. Entry and Take-In is Sunday July 1st. You have just enough time to get your best artwork together and come over to Showcase and join the show.

Due to the July 4th holiday, the reception for Dreamland will be held Saturday July 14th from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Showcase receptions are always fun, good food, entertainment, art-ists, friends and patrons and a great gathering of new artworks.

Keep the Spirit,

Our featured artist for the month of June is Evan Roy Dahlke.

A master of faux painting, Evan was one of the first artists to adapt these decorative products in combination with his artistic techniques to create gallery-quality works of art.

His distinctive approach pulls the viewer into the art to feel the energy and vibrancy residing there. Constantly challenging himself to experiment with new techniques and ways of layering the products, Evan enjoys producing unique one-of-a kind works of art.
