INTRODUCTION
A drill program was carried out in beginning in February, 2008 to October of 2008. This drill program was planned using knowledge gained from the 2007 mapping program combined with magnetics data. The program consisted of 4 holes and totaled 619.52m of drilling. The purpose of the drill program is to test the copper-nickel-PGE potential of the gabbro that exists on the claims.
Basement rock consist of Archean gneiss and Proterozoic layered 1600 my mafic intrusion (olivine gabbro, tractolite, anorthosite) which is cut by a 1590 my alkali porphyry all of whom are part of Wawaig Intrusive complex. These rocks are age dated as part of the Lake Nipigon Geological Initiative Project that commenced in 2003. The age dates are tabulated by Heaman, L.M. (2005). The Proterozoic rocks were discovered in April 2000 and September 2003 while prospecting. A horizontal 20m-30m thick layer of pillowed andesite-basalt lava that may be 1242 my covers the older Proterozoic layered complex and porphyry and is in turn capped by horizontal gabbroic sills (Inspiration Sills) that are equivalent to the Nipigon Sills. These sills are reversely polarized magnetically similar to the Nipigon Sills and therefore are probably 1108 my in age (Middleton, R.S. and Borradaille, G., 2006).
The drill holes within this 2008 program have been planned in order to achieve a cross section of the gabbro body. Drilling that was carried out in 2004 intersected both the Java layer and basement gabbro-troctolite complex. Holes RG04-03, RG04-06, RG04-07, RG04-08, RG04-09, RG04-10 and RG04-11 were sampled as part of this study for whole rock analysis starting in April 2007 as well as rcp analysis for Cu, Ni, REE and PGE analysis with fire assay extraction and Iep finish. Holes RG04-03, RG04-06, RG04-07. RG04-08, RG04-09, and RG05-12 cut the olivine gabbro troctolite layered complex and RG05-1 0 and RG05-11 cut the outer margin which contained syenitic rocks. The outer syenite is considered to be part of the olivine gabbro complex and forms an outer ring to the 12 kilometer circular magnetic high feature that is associated with the gabbro. The syenite phase is associated with a magnetic low. A porphyry cuts the gabbro complex and numerous dikes are observed in the core and in outcrop cutting the gabbro. Pegmatitic phases are found within the porphyry and in dikes cross-cutting the gabbro. Aplite (fine-grained) phases of the porphyry also cut the syenite thereby suggesting that the syenite is older and possibly the same age as the gabbro.
Dikes of fine grained basalt cut the gabbro which are possible feeders to the overlying lava flows. Vv'hole rock analysis was done on the core to determine if the chemistry of these dikes matched that of the lavas.
Remnant Magnetism studies of the lavas and gabbro-troctolite complex have been carried out by Borradaile, G. and Middleton, R.S., which give Proterozoic ages of 1500-1600 my for the gabbro and 2500 my for the lavas. It is possible that the remnance has been altered by the 1108 my diabase sills (Inspiration and Nipigon) and that an older date is more likely since the sills cut the lavas. An age of 1242 my was suggested by Heaman, L (2005) for the lavas but was not considered accurate.
Glacial moraine on the west part of the property contains a preponderance of radio active debris cobbles and small boulders which resemble rocks from the west margin of the gabbro-syenite complex cut by the hole RG05-1 O. Clay alteration supports these boulders and is derived from a weathered horizon at the base of the lava series. The
2
high rare earth content of these boulders provides a tool to matching the source rocks using these pathfinder elements, and also assists in studying the origin of these rocks and geological processes associated with the formation of the mineralization.
Exploration of the gabbro complex will be directed at Copper-Nickel-PGE (Platinum Group Elements) targets within layered phases and altered porphyry phases will be explored for rare earth uranium-thorium mineralization.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
The Armstrong property is located 230 km north of Thunder Bay, and covers approximately a 10 km by 10 km area, with the north boundary being 5 km south of the CNR rail line at Armstrong, Ontario. Hwy 527 passes through the property in a northsouth direction (which links Hwy 11-17 in Thunder Bay with Armstrong). The property falls within sheet 521/3 of the NTS map system. The area west of the Highway is largely clear cut and gravel roads installed by the lumber companies traverse the property to the west boundary. Logging roads have provided access into both the east side of the property towards McLauren Lake. The road which accesses the west side of the property west of highway 527 is called the Matice Rd.
PROPERTY
The Armstrong Property (Red Granite) consists of 36 claims or 545 units located in the Pillar Lake area of the Thunder Bay Mining Division in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.

SIBLEY SEDIMENTS
The Sibley Group of sediments occur on the north shore of Lake Superior and extend north-ward as far as Armstrong, Ontario, and form the base for the Nipigon Plate. This would be roughly a 200 km by 150 km area that has subsequently been intruded and capped by the Logan or Nipigon diabase sills. Age dating by RblSr methods have suggested an age of 1339 +1- 33 Ma, Franklin (1970), however, mapping by Sutcliffe (1987) suggests that an older date is possible for the base of the Sibley. Recent work carried out by the Nipigon Geological Initiative program in 2003-2004 suggests the Sibley to be 1450-1500 my in age, Heaman, L.M. et al (2005). In the vicinity of English Bay on Lake Nipigon, fragments of Sibley have been observed by Sutcliffe to be mixed with felsic volcanic fragments that are related to a high level alkali intrusion (English Bay) that yields an age of 1537-1540 Ma. Fragments of a quartzite and grit - shale units were observed in the alkaline porphyry intrusive by the writer (Middleton), suggesting the Sibley or lower sections existed when the alkali body was intruded. Therefore this suggests that an older rift system existed, as old as 1537 Ma. Tanton (1931), Franklin (1970, 1980, 1982), Cheadle (1986), McIlwaine and Wallace (1976), Wallace (1981), and Sutcliffe (1991) have described the stratigraphy and geological setting of the Sibley in detail.
The importance of the Sibley to the search for uranium unconformity deposits in the Nipigon Plate area is that the Sibley sediments are the same age as the Athabaska sediments. Franklin (1970, 1982) notes that barite occurs in the lower and middle
6
formations (Pass Lake and Rossport) and that gypsum and anhydrite occur in the middle and upper formations (Rossport and Kama Hill). Stromatolite horizons occur in the Rossport and Kama Hill formations. Sandstone units have been observed at the basement contact at Havoc, along with 20-80 metre thick conglomerate units.
MID PROTEROZOIC MAFIC INTRUSIONS
The mid Proterozoic mafic intrusions in the vicinity of the Nipigon Plate consist of two knm.vn suites of rocks, an early stage ultramafic - picrite event, the full extent of which is unkno\vl1, and the diabase dolerite Nipigon Sills which are very extensive, 200 km x 120 to 250 X 200 km. The geology of the picrites and Logan sills in the Thunder Bay region has been described by Pye (1953), Blackadar (1954), Geul (1970, ] 973).
a) Early Picrite - Ultramafic Intrusives Picrite rocks have been mapped by Sutcliffe (1987a) near English Bay on the northwest shore of Lake Nipigon where dykes are found cutting an alkali granite - syenite porphyry dated at 1537 my. Drilling carried out by Corona Gold Corporation on the syenite intersected picrite dykes as well.
Evidence for these rocks to be older than the diabase is judged from the fact that the Fox Mountain dyke, which is made of diabase, cuts the ultramafic rocks. This dyke is reversely polarized magnetically, which makes it the same age as the diabase sills and likely is a feeder to the sills. This dyke is oriented N25° W and is parallel to the Black Sturgeon Fault.
b) Diabase - Logan - Nipigon Sills
The diabase sills in the Nipigon Plate area cover a minimum of 1 ] 0 km by 200 km area (22,000 km2
) with other extensions to the northwest called the Kopka Cone Sheet. These diabase sills over all cover a 200 x 250 km area and extend to the southwest of the Nipigon area past Thunder Bay and to the US border where they occur in the vicinity of the Great Lakes Nickel deposit. The diabase is subalkali - tholeiitic in composition with some olivine rich phases, Sutcliffe (1987b). It is. possible that the Keweenawan volcanics to the south once overlaid the diabase. The diabase projects below the Osler volcanics, Sutcliffe (1987), Wallace (1981).
The diabase sills intrude the Rove Formation southwest of Thunder Bay and the Sibley series north and northwest of Thunder Bay. The sills are in the order of 200 m in thickness with thinner 30 m sills below. Another 150 m thick sill is sometimes found above the main 200 m sill. Dips are in the order of 10°, but steeper dips occur along the Black Sturgeon Fault. The Sibley and Logan sill combination is up to 800 m thick and forms the Nipigon Plate, Stockwell et al (1972). Zircon dating of the diabase gives an age of 1109 +/- 2 Ma, Davis and Sutcliffe (1985), and the sill intrusion is interpreted to be contemporaneous with the Keweenawan basaltic magmatism (Osler volcanics) etc, Green (1983), that is associated with the Mid-continent Rift (the Keweenawan Event).
7
At the same time as sill intrusion a controlling fault (Black Sturgeon Fault). which is a failed arm of the Mid-continent Rift reactivated along an older rift in the Nipigon Plate area. Graben development along the Black Sturgeon Fault took place as well as block movement and mafic intrusions on other parallel faults.
The Logan sills have reverse magnetic polarity, Dubois (1962), which corresponds to the Keweenawan lavas at the early stage ofvo1canism, Halls, H (1974), however, the polarity returns to normal toward the end of volcanism. Other bodies within the Nipigon Plate that are interpreted to be earlier or later intrusives below the Logan sills have positive polarity. Geological reconnaissance mapping by the writer has noted that some diabase areas are more fractured and altered (hematized) in the vicinity of deeper positive magnetic anomalies suggesting the presence of a post diabase heat source below the sills.
ALKALI - FELSIC INTRUSIVES (PROTEROZOIC)
The English Bay porphyry occurs on the east margin of the Havoc Lake property and contains elevated rare earth elements. This body has been recently age dated at 1540 my seen on Heaman, L.M. et al (2005) and is associated with high uranium thorium potassium values seen on an airborne radiometric survey flown in 2003 as part of the Lake Nipigon Geological Initiative program, O.G.S. (2004 a). The age of this intrusive is the same as Olympic Dam and with extensive hematization of the basement rocks, one should also be observant for IOCG type deposits (iron oxide eopper-gold) that contain uranium values. The alkali intrusion would also be a direct source rock for uranium that would be transported by fluids beneath the Sibley sediments. At Pillar Lake a quartz-feldspar porphyry occurs which is identical in appearance to the English Bay Porphyry but has been dated to be 1590 my. This porphyry cuts the gabbrotroctolite layered rocks.
PROPERTY GEOLOGY
The west margin of the property is underlain by gneissic rocks of Archean Age and are cut by fine grained pink aplite containing magnetite. The aplite phases are possibly derived from a alkali porphyry complex that occurs in Pillar Lake since similar rocks have been seen cutting syenite that occurs on the west margin of the Waweig mafic intrusive complex (see hole RG 04-10). Pegmatites and aplites also cut the Waweig mafic intrusive rocks and have been observed in drill core as well as in outcrop.
The Waweig mafic intrusive complex is a layered intrusion consisting of olivine gabbro, amorthositic layers, troctolite, glomerophyritie layers, and occasional layers of magnetite with sulphide.
8
The feldspars are fresh and the only alteration occurs along the margin the pegmatite. Fine grained grey, brownish mafic dikes cut the gabbro and are thought to be feeders to the overlying mafic pillow lavas (see holes RG04-6. RG04-7, RG04-8).
The layering in the mafic intrusive dips south east at -45,-55 degrees and is best observed in the valley west of Badwater Creek.
An extensive horizontal layer of mafic volcanics called the Pillar volcanics extends from beneath the sills on the east side of the map area on claim 3016737 and 3016738 to claim 3000998 on the west side. These rocks are 20-30 m in thickness and consist of pillow lava haloclastite, flow top breccia and massive layers. One occurrence of inter flow sediment has been observed on the clifflike exposure east ofHwy 527 on claim 3016737.
Sibley rocks occur beneath the Inspiration Sills on the south east part ofthe property but have not been observed in the northwest quadrant of the property.
The remnance of olivine gabbro Waweig Complex contains a number of weak reversed remnance magnetism values suggesting that these rocks are Proterozoic (1599my) (Heaman & Easton, 2006) (Borradaile & Middleton, 2006).
LITHO CHEMISTRY
The sampling has shown that the Pillar Porphyry and related felsic (aplite, pegmatite) are elevated in Uranium, Thorium and REEs. This suggests that the altered porphyry rocks in the debris pile are related to this porphyry event.
There is elevated Uranium and Thorium in the trap dikes (basalt) but these particular rocks are highly altered (orange colour, hematized) and therefore may be contaminated because they have intruded the older porphyry rocks.
Alteration in the gabbro suggests that the porphyry has been driving fluids through gabbro carrying elevated U, Th and REE values which has been altering the gabbro.
Thin section work and litho chemistry on the gabbro has shown that the troctolite and olivine gabbro layers occur and are favourable for copper PGE mineralization. There are occcaisional elevated CulZr ratios supporting this.
The high Zr values seen in the porphyry and related rocks suggest a per-alkali intrusive event (Alaskite type).

DRILL HOLE SUMMARY
RG-OS-Ol
Hole RG-08-01 was drilled at an azimuth of 110 degrees and a plunge of 50 degrees. It had to be abandoned due to troubles getting through thick overburden consisting of sand, gravel and boulders. The hole was then moved to location RG-08-02 to test the same gabbro target but from a setup on exposed bedrock.
RG-OS-02
Hole RG-08-02 was driJled at an azimuth of 110 degrees and a plunge of 50 degrees. This hole intersected 62.67m of diabase which overlies the pillowed lava flows which was drilled for 40.95m. The hole did not intersect the targeted gabbro body as it then hit a syenite unit at ] 08.62m. The hole was then shut down at 124.36m and did not intersect any significant zones of sulphide mineralization.
RG-OS-03
Hole RG-08-03 was drilled at an azimuth of 340 degrees and a plunge of 65 degrees. This hole was designed to test a magnetic high sitting under the pond just to the east of HWY #527. This hole intersected the mafic pillow lava flow to a depth of 47.1 Om. The hole then hit the Gabbro/Troctolite bodies that underlie the lava flow. Mineralization did not exceed trace to 1 % and consisted of pyrrhotite and pyrite and
10
exists as very fine disseminations and small blebs up to 2mm. No chalcopyrite or was noted in this hole. Thin sections for this hole have been analyzed and results found in Appendix B.
RG-08-04
Hole RG-08-04 was drilled at an azimuth of 0 degrees and a plunge of 50 degrees. The hole was planned to drill through a mag high and into a mag low, The mag susceptibility data (Appendix C) does not show a distinct change to mag low values. Further follow up on magnetic reversals is recommended. The hole intersected the lava flows until a depth of 45. 12m. The hole then intersected the Gabbro unit. This unit appears to be layered with sharp contacts between fine-medium-coarse grained layers. Thin section work is recommended as well as follow up to determine if the fine grained units are geochemically similar to the overlying diabase unit not intersected in the hole. Boulders intersected at the top of the hole are similar to the REE-TH-U bearing boulders found further to the southwest on the property. This indicates that the source of these boulders is further up ice and follow up is warranted to determine the source location. No significant sulphide intercepts were encountered in this drill hole. Sulphides (pyrrhotite, pyrite) exist in trace to 1 % disseminations and small blebs up to 2mm in width.
CONCLUSION
The Waweig layered mafic intrusive complex has potential for layered (sulphide oxide hosted) PGE-copper deposits. These were tested were tested in this drill program.
Chalcopyrite was observed with pyrrhotite in the drill holes from earlier drill programs in holes RG04-2, RG04-3, RG04-6, and RG04-7. Layers of Magnetite and pyrrhotite occur in hole RG04-7. Copper-Zirconium ratios suggest a favourable environment for sulphide zones. This most recent program produced results that did not display any Cpy or Ni mineralization. The gabbro/troctolite body was intersected but sulfides do not reach values of higher than trace to 1 % and only consist of barren pyrrhotite and pyrite disseminated mineralization.
Boulders of rocks similar to those which have produced REE-U-Th values in the past were intersected in the overburden of hole RG-08-04 suggesting that the source of these boulders is still further in the up ice direction of glacial retreat.
Thin sections were analyzed to determine precisely the lithology of the units. These results are attached in appendix B.
11
RECOMMENDATIONS
Magnetic susceptibility inversion processing of the aeromagnetic data suggests increased magnetite concentrations at depth within the layered gabbro. The western contact of the gabbro represents the lowest layers and should be followed up with further IP surveys.
The south east part of the complex should be drilled where lake sediment nickel copper platinum anomalies occur OGS (2000).
The source of the REE-Th-U bearing boulders appears to be further up ice direction due to their presence in the overburden ofRG-08-04. The source for these boulders should be further investigated.

Capsule descriptions are as follows:
RG08-3 96.33: olivine-biotite gabbro with accessory opaques (magnetite and pyrrhotite?) and only slight alteration to talc/sericite, actinolitic amphibole, and clay? Isericite.
RG08-3 155.48: olivine-biotite gabbro with accessory opaques (magnetite and ilmenite?) and locally significant alteration to actinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, iddingsite and traces of clay?/sericite.
RG08-3 193: felsic porphyritic hypabyssal intrusive rock that may be loosely termed (quartz) trachyte if the alkali feldspar is plagioclase with An<5 (i.e. Ab95), which seems possible. If not, it would be' more correctly classified as (quartz) andesite, partly altered to carbonate and pyrite, with accessory apatite and rutile.
Detailed petrographic descriptions and photomicrographs are appended (as email attachment). If you have any questions regarding the petrography, please do not hesitate to contact me.

RG08-3 96.33: OLIVINE-B[OTITE GABBRO (ACCESSORY MAGNETITE-PYRRHOTITE?), SLIGHT ALTERATION TO TALC/SERICITE-ACTINOLITIC AMPHIBOLE-CLA Y?/SERICITE)
Described as olivine gabbro/troctolite; hand specimen shows relatively coarse-grained, dark grey mafic plutonic rock with disseminated magnetite and pyrrhotite. The rock is strongly magnetic, but shows no reaction to cold dilute HCI, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (labradorite/bytownite?) 55% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 25% Biotite 10% Olivine (partly relict) 3% Talc/sericite, minor iddingsite (after olivine) 2% Amphibole (secondary, actinolitic) 2% Opaque (magnetite?) 2%
(pyrrhotite?) 1 % Clay? /s eric ite (after plagioclase) trace
This gabbroic sample consists mainly of plagioclase and lesser mafic minerals (pyroxene, biotite, relict olivine) plus accessory opaque oxides and sulfides.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals up to about 4 mm long, with random orientations, partly enclosing the mafic minerals. Twining is regular but slightly bent; no zoning is apparent. Composition appears to be calcic, approximately on the labradorite-bytO\vnite boundary (An70) based on extinction yl\OlO up to 36 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular, mainly subhedral crystals up to 4.5 mm long although locally somewhat glomeratic. They locally include plagioclase or olivine, and are locally mantled by biotite. The pyroxene has pale brownish green colour and extinction angle about 45 degrees, suggestive of augite. Some crystals are partly altered" mainly around the rims, to minor secondary amphibole as ragged subhedra mostly <1 mm in diameter, with dark olive- to sea-green pleochroism and extinction angle around 19 degrees (possibly actinolitic hornblende?).
Biotite forms ragged, irregular subhedral crystals mostly <2.5 mm in diameter (although locally aggregating to 3.5 mm), with dark red-brown pleochroism and commonly wrapped around pyroxene, or interstitial to pyroxene and plagioclase.
Olivine (or olivine relics) have somewhat rounded or subhedral outlines up to almost 3 mm in diameter, commonly contained within pyroxene crystals or aggregates. The olivine is generally strongly fractured, with traces of minute secondary magnetite (?) along the fractures. In places the olivine is partly to locally completely replaced or pseudomorphed by very fine-grained talc/sericite (randomly oriented flakes <0.1 mm in diameter) or minor red-brown to greenish-brown iddingsite (?) as ragged anhedra <0.35 mm in diameter.
Accessory opaques appear to be mostly magnetite (?) forming skeletal to irregular subhedral crystals up to 2 mm in diameter, interstitial to plagioclase, or associated with biotite and olivine or relict olivine (fine-grained magnetite in the latter case is likely mostly secondary). Sulfides forming irregular subhedra to 0.5 mm long (likely mostly pyrrhotite?) are also commonly interstitial to plagioclase and pyroxene, and associated with biotite.
In summary, this represents olivine-biotite gabbro with accessory opaques (magnetite and pyrrhotite?) and only slight alteration to talc/sericite, actinolitic amphibole, and clay?/sericite.
3
RG08-3 155.48: OLIVINE-BIOTITE GABBRO (ACCESSORY MAGNETITE-ILMENITE?), SIGNIFICANT ALTERA nON TO ACTINOLITIC AMPHIBOLE-TALC/SERICITE-TRACE CLA Y?/SERICITE)
Described as coarse gabbro-pyroxenite; hand sample shows dark blackish green, coarsegrained mafic to ultramafic rock with dotty, mottled texture. The rock is magnetic, but shows no reaction to cold dilute HCl, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (labradorite/bytownite?) 50% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 20% Amphibole (secondary, actinolitic) 13% Biotite 5% Olivine (partly relict) 5% Talc/sericite, minor iddingsite (after olivine) 3% Opaque (magnetite?) 2%
(ilmenite?) 2% Clay?/sericite (after plagioclase) trace
This gabbroic sample consists mainly of plagioclase and lesser mafic minerals (pyroxene or amphibole after pyroxene, biotite, relict olivine) plus accessory opaque oxides. It is similar in composition to the sample from 96.33m, but contains more relict olivine and is somewhat more altered. Relict olivine is erratically distributed in zones alternating with pyroxene-rich zones.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals up to about 5 mm long, with random orientations, partly enclosing the mafic minerals in a sub-ophitic texture. Twining is regular but slightly bent, and no zoning is apparent. Composition appears to be calcic, around labradorite (An60) based on extinction yl\OlO up to 30 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular to skeletal, mainly subhedral crystals up to 1 cm across although locally somewhat glomeratic. They locally include plagioclase or rarely altered relict olivine, and are locally associated with biotite. The pyroxene has pale brownish colour (salite?) and extinction angle about 45 degrees, suggestive of augite or salitic augite. In places, most crystals are partly altered, starting around the rims, to significant secondary amphibole as ragged fibrous subhedra mostly <0.5 mm long. In general, core areas have sea-green pleochroism and rims have olive-green pleochroism; extinction angle around 18 degrees in both suggests possibly actinolite andlor actinolitic hornblende (?).
Biotite forms ragged, irregular subhedral crystals mostly <1.5 mm in diameter (although locally aggregating to 6.5 mm), with dark red-brown pleochroism and commonly wrapped around pyroxene or amphibole altered pyroxene, or interstitial to pyroxene and plagioclase.
Olivine (or olivine relics) have somewhat rounded or ragged irregular to subhedral outlines mostly <1 mm long (glomeratic to 2.5 mm), most commonly interstitial to plagioclase or contained within amphibole altered pyroxene crystals or aggregates. The olivine is generally strongly fractured, with traces of minute secondary magnetite (?) along the fractures. In places the olivine is partly to locally completely replaced or pseudomorphed by very fine-grained talc/sericite (randomly oriented flakes <50 microns in diameter) or lesser bright red-brown to greenish-brown iddingsite (?) as ragged anhedra <0.25 mm in diameter.
Accessory opaques appear to be mostly magnetite and ilmenite (?) forming skeletal to irregular subhedral crystals up to 2 mm in diameter, interstitial to plagioclase, or associated with biotite and olivine or relict olivine (fine-grained magnetite in the latter case is likely partly to mostly secondary). No sulfides are visible.
In summary, this represents o1ivine-biotite gabbro with accessory opaques (magnetite and ilmenite?) and locally significant alteration to actinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, iddingsite and traces of clay?/sericite.
4
RG08-3 193: PLAGIOCLASE PHYRIC, (QUARTZ) TRACHYTE OR ANDESITE (ACCESSORY APATITE. RUTILE) ALTERED TO CARBONATE AND PYRITE
Described as syenite/trachyte porphyry that cuts the gabbro and occurs in ring around the gabbro; hand specimen shows pale buff-grey, fine-grained rock with scattered white relict plagioclase phenocrysts. The rock is not magnetic, and shows significant reaction to cold dilute HCl, but no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (mainly albite?) 80% Carbonate (mainly calcite?) 10% Quartz (mainly primary, minor secondary) 7% Opaque (mainly pyrite?) 2% Apatite <1% Rutile <1% Clay? /sericite (after plagioclase) <1 %
This sample consists almost entirely of plagioclase (likely sodic), both as scattered phenocrysts and groundmass crystals, both partly altered to carbonate. There is only minor, interstitial, quartz (likely primary) and accessory opaques, apatite and rutile.
Plagioclase phenocrysts have somewhat rounded, sub/euhedral outlines up to about 3 mm in diameter, and are partly altered to carbonate as irregular sub/anhedra mostly <0.1 mm in diameter plus lesser opaque (mainly pyrite?) as euhedral cubic crystals of similar size. The phenocrysts make up about 15-20% of the sample, and lack twinning or zoning, suggesting they may have been recrystallized. Similarity in relief to groundmass plagioclase (which shows negative relief compared to quartz) and the altered character strongly suggest that both phenocryst and groundmass feldspar is albitic or possibly albitized. Traces of clay?/sericite forming minute flakes <15 microns in size occur in both phenocryst and groundmass feldspar.
In the groundmass, which makes up about 80% of the sample, small weakly aligned feldspar crystals are mostly subhedral and <0.25 mm long. They are generally weakly to vaguely twinned, with observed extinction angle on 010 up to about 12 degrees, but strongly negative relief compared to quartz, indicative of albitic composition. Carbonate occurs as irregular-shaped aggregates up toO.5 mm across composed of interlocking sub/anhedral crystals mostly <0.2 mm in size, likely mostly calcite to judge by the strong reaction to cold dilute HCI in hand specimen. Quartz forms small subhedral crystals mostly <0.1 mm in diameter, interstitial to the teldspar, and is likely mostly primary (except where present along narrow, <0.1 mm thick veinlets, where it is clearly secondary, with minor carbonate as subhedra up to 0.5 mm long).
Accessory opaques appear upon hand lens examination to be likely mostly pyrite, forming sub/euhedra to 0.25 mm but locally in aggregates to 0.75 mm. The aggregates are locally partly controlled along fractures or discontinuous veinlets. Apatite forms slender euhedral prisms up to 0.1 mm long. Traces of rutile form aggregates to 0.1 mm of rounded dark brown to opaque subhedra mostly <20 microns in size.
In summary, this is a felsic porphyritic hypabyssal intrusive rock that may be loosely termed (quartz) trachyte if the alkali feldspar is plagioclase with An<5 (i.e. Ab95), which seems possible. If not, it would be more correctly classified as (quartz) andesite, partly altered to carbonate and pyrite, with accessory apatite and rutile.

Boulders consist of medium to coarse grained reddish pink syenite, white/black to pink granite, mafic pillow lavas (med green fine granied with hematitic alt at selveges).
Hole had to be abandoned due to complications drilling through overburden. Hole was relocated to RG-08-02 location where the drill was set up on bedrock. The targeted magnetic high still remained the same as did the azimuth and dip of the planned hole. Hole RG-08-02 which was the substitute is northeast of the planned location for hole RG-08-01.

The core itself is really broken up. Some sections contain pillowed lava structures and flow top breccia massive layers. Really brecciated. large clasts (2.5cm->lmm) in a fine grained matrix. An abundance of hematitization occuring in the upper section.
Mineralogy- plagioclase, pyroxene, and olivine. Mineral grain size makes it difficult to determine percantages to whole rock.
Textures- Phenocrysts of plagioclase in a finer grained, almost glassy matrix.
105.00 Gabbro 7ac
Mineralogy- Feldspar, pyroxene, olivine, and magnetite (fine grained) Overall the the mineral composition is dominately mafic at arounbd 60% mafic to the whole rock. An unknown mineral occurs from 5230m-52.S0m. It occurs sporadically at 20% to the whole rock. It has a brownish red colour and has a equigranualar texture.
Texture- uniform equigranular. Black to dark grey in colour, medium grained (-2-3 mm) with fine grained magnetite.
Alteration occurs from the contact at 47.10m to ~54m. Hematite staining occurs pervasively as does chlorite and serpentization, occuring locafly to tiny (1-2mm) veintlets. Also serpentine veins occur sporadicafly throughout this unit.
At 90m, at 30 deg to CA At 94m, at 60 deg to CA. At 94.64m-94.70m- very fractured, occurres with chlorite At 95m, occurs with a calcite vein at 75 deg to CA.

RG08-4 441.6: FINE-GRAINED BIOTITE-OLIVINE GABBRO (ACCESSORY OPAQUE OXIDES) ALTERED TO ACTINOLITIC AMPHIBOLE, TALC-IDINGSITE?-CLA Y?/SERICITE
Described as fine-grained; hand specimen shows dark greenish grey, fine-grained gabbro with relatively massive texture, locally cut by narrow dark veinlets. The rock is strongly magnetic, but shows no reaction to cold dilute HCI, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (labradorite/bytownite?) 45% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 20% Amphibole (secondary, largely actinolitic?) 15% Olivine (partly relict) 10% Talc/sericite, minor iddingsite? (after olivine) 3% Opaque (magnetite?) 2%
(ilmenite?) 2% Biotite 1-2% Clay?/sericite (after plagioclase) 1-2%
This gabbroic sample consists mainly of plagioclase and lesser mafic minerals (clinopyroxene or amphibole after pyroxene, partly relict olivine, minor biotite) plus accessory opaque oxides. It is locally strongly amphibole altered along irregular fracture zones. Olivine and relict olivine is commonly closely associated with pyroxene aggregates, and opaques with biotite.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals up to about 2 mm long, with slight preferred orientation, and partly enclosing the mafic minerals in a sub-ophitic texture. Twinning is regular but locally slightly bent, and no zoning is apparent. Composition appears to be calcic, around labradorite/bytownite (An70) based on extinction Y/'010 up to 36 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures, especially near the amphibole altered fracture zones.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular to skeletal, mainly subhedral crystals mostly <1 mm in size although locally somewhat glomeratic to about 2.5 mm long, elongated sub-parallel to a weak foliation. They aggregates generally enclose unaltered to partly altered relict olivine, and locally minor biotite and opaque oxides. In general, core areas have brownish to olive-green pleochroism (latemagmatic hornblende?) and outer parts have pale sea-green pleochroism with extinction angle around 18 degrees, suggestive of actinolite and/or actinolitic hornblende (?).
Olivine (or olivine relics) have somewhat rounded or ragged irregular to subhedral outlines mostly <0.7 mm long (glomeratic to 1 mm), contained within pyroxene crystals or aggregates. The olivine is more strongly fractured than pyroxene, with traces of minute secondary magnetite (?) along the fractures. In places the olivine is partly to locally completely replaced or pseudomorphed by very fine-grained talc/sericite (randomly oriented flakes <35 microns in diameter locally mixed with actinolite) or lesser brown to greenish-brown iddingsite (?) as ragged anhedra <0.1 mm in diameter.
Biotite forms small ragged, irregular subhedral crystals mostly <0.5 mm in diameter, with dark red-brown pleochroism and commonly wrapped around pyroxene or amphibole altered pyroxene, or interstitial to pyroxene and plagioclase.
Accessory opaques appear to be mostly magnetite and ilmenite ('1) forming irregular subhedral crystals mainly <0.5 mm in diameter, associated with biotite and olivine or relict olivine (fine-grained magnetite in the latter case is likely partly to mostly secondary). No sulfides are visible.
In summary, this represents fine-grained biotite-olivine gabbro with accessory opaques (magnetite and ilmenite?) and locally significant alteration to actinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, iddingsite and traces of clay?/sericite.

RG08-4 446.6: COARSE BIOTITE-OLIVINE GABBRO WITH SIGNIFICANT ILMENITEMAGNETITE, ALTERED TO SECONDARY AMPHIBOLE-TALC/SERICITE
Described as coarse gabbro; hand sample shows dark blackish grey, coarse-grained mafic to ultramafic rock with clotty, mottled texture. The rock is magnetic, but shows no reaction to cold dilute HCI, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (labradorite/bytownite?) 40% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 35% Magnetite (partly secondary) 7% Amphibole (secondary, actinolitic) 7%
(late magmatic, hornblende?) 3% Olivine (partly relict) 3% Ilmenite 2% Biotite 1-2% Pyrite, pyrrhotite 1 % Talc/sericite (after olivine), clay? /sericite (after plagioclase) < 1 %
This gabbroic sample consists mainly of plagioclase and mafic minerals (pyroxene or amphibole after pyroxene, biotite, olivine partly altered to talc/sericite) plus significant accessory opaque oxides. It is similar in composition to the sample from 441.6m, but contains less olivine and is less altered. Relict olivine is erratically distributed as coarse crystals included within pyroxene-rich zones.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals up to about 5 mm long, with random orientations, partly enclosing the mafic minerals in a sub-ophitic texture. Twinning is regular but locally slightly bent, and no zoning is apparent. Composition appears to be calcic, around labradorite-bytownite (An72) based on extinction YI\Ol 0 up to 37 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular to skeletal, mainly subhedral crystals up to 7 mm long although locally glomeratic to almost 1 cm. They locally include plagioclase or rarely slightly altered olivine, and are locally associated with biotite and coarse, significant oxides. The pyroxene has pale brownish colour and extinction angle about 45 degrees, suggestive of augite or salitic augite. In places, most crystals are partly mantled by brown late-magmatic hornblende in parallel position as ragged subhedra to 1.5 mm, and then both are altered. starting around the rims, to secondary amphibole as ragged fibrous subhedra mostly <0.5 mm long, \\lith sea-green pleochroism and extinction angle around 18 degrees, suggesting actinolite or possibly actinolitic hornblende (?).
Biotite forms ragged, irregular subhedral crystals up to 3.5 mm in diameter (although mainly 1.5 mm), with dark red-brown pleochroism and commonly wrapped around pyroxene or amphibole altered pyroxene, or interstitial to pyroxene and plagioclase, and closely associated with oxides.
Olivine (partly relict) has somewhat rounded or ragged irregular to subhedral outlines up to 8 mm long, commonly mantled by a zone in which the olivine is altered along fractures to fine-grained talc/sericite and minor amphibole, with traces of minute secondary magnetite (?) along the fractures. Locally areas within these olivine crystals are pseudomorphed by fine-grained fibrous, almost colourless amphibole (tremolite-actinolite?).
Accessory opaques appear to be mostly ilmenite and minor magnetite, forming skeletal to irregular subhedral crystals up to 6 mm in diameter, interstitial to plagioclase/clinopyroxene, closely associated with biotite. Minor sulfides appear to be mostly pyrite (subhedra to 0.5 mm, mostly after pyrrhotite, some of which remains as subhedra <0.1 mm), aggregating in irregular blebs and subhedra up to about 2 mm long.
In summary, this is coarse biotite-olivine gabbro with significant accessory opaque oxides (magnetite and ilmenite), minor sulfides (pyrite after pyrrhotite) and local slight alteration to latemagmatic hornblende, actinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, tremolitic amphibole and traces of clay?/sericite.

RG08-4 687: COARSE BIOTITE-OLIVINE GABBRO WITH MINOR ILMENITE?-MAGNETITE, ALTERED TO SECONDARY AMPHIBOLE-TALC/SERICITE-MAGNETITE-GREEN BIOTITE
Described as coarse gabbro; hand sample shows dark blackish grey, coarse-grained mafic to ultramafic rock with very irregular clotty, mottled texture (highlighted in etched offcut). The rock is magnetic, but shows no reaction to cold dilute HCl, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately:
Plagioclase (labradorite?) 50% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 30% Olivine (partly relict) 7% Biotite 3-5% Amphibole (secondary, actinolitic) 2-3% Talc/sericite (after olivine) 2-3% Ilmenite (?) 1-2% Magnetite (partly secondary) 1-2% Green biotite (after olivine), trace magmatic hornblende <1 % Clay?/sericite (after plagioclase) <1%
This gabbroic sample consists of coarse plagioclase and mafic minerals (pyroxene or amphibole after pyroxene, olivine partly altered to talc/sericite, biotite) plus minor accessory opaque oxides. It is similar in composition to the sample from 446.6m, but contains more olivine and less oxide. Olivine distribution is zoned, with distinct olivine-rich and pyroxene-rich zones at ~45 degrees to core axis.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals up to about 3 mm long, with random orientations, but commonly glomeratic to 1 cm or so, partly enclosing the mafic minerals in a sub-ophitic texture. Twinning is regular but locally slightly bent; zoning is weak and slight. Composition appears to be calcic, around labradorite (An60) based on extinction yJ\O 1 0 up to 32 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular to skeletal, mainly subhedral crystals up to 7 mm long although locally glomeratic to almost 1 cm. They locally include plagioclase or biotite, but olivine or altered olivine is mainly found around margins. The pyroxene has pale brownish colour and extinction angle about 45 degrees, suggestive of salitic augite. In places, some crystals are partly altered, starting around the rims or along fractures, to secondary amphibole as ragged fibrous subhedra mostly <0.5 mm long (but optically continuous up to 4 mm along veinlets), with variable pale coloured to bright sea-green pleochroism and extinction angle around 14 degrees, suggesting tremolite-actinolite or possibly actinolitic hornblende (?). Brown late-magmatic hornblende is rare.
Olivine (partly relict) crystals have somewhat rounded or ragged, corroded irregular to subhedral outlines up to 2 mm in diameter, commonly partly replaced or mantled by a zone in which the olivine is altered along fractures to fine-grained talc/sericite, very fine-grained «15 micron) secondary magnetite (7) along the fractures, and intimately intermixed amphibole, locally with traces of green biotite (aggregates to 0.4 mm of randomly oriented sub/euhedral flakes <65 microns in size). Locally the cores, or entire olivine crystals, are pseudomorphed by fine-grained talc/sericite and the fibrous, pale greenish to almost colourless amphibole (tremolite-actinolite?).
Biotite forms ragged, irregular subhedral crystals up to 3.5 mm in diameter (commonly glomeratic), with dark red-brown pleochroism, commonly surrounding or interstitial to pyroxene or amphibole altered pyroxene, or pyroxene and plagioclase, in places closely associated with oxides.
Accessory opaques are likely mostly ilmenite and magnetite, forming skeletal to irregular subhedral crystals up to 2.5 mm in diameter, interstitial to plagioclase/clinopyroxene and closely associated with biotite.
In summary, this is coarse biotite-olivine gabbro with minor accessory opaque oxides (likely magnetite and ilmenite), and local moderate alteration to tremolitic-actinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, secondary magnetite and traces of green biotite and clay?/sericite.

RG08-4 835: FINE PLAGIOCLASE-RICH BIOTITE-OLIVINE (TROCTOLITlC) GABBRO WITH ACCESSORY OPAQUE OXIDES, APATITE, SLIGHTLY ALTERED TO ACTlNOLITlC AMPHIBOLE, TALC/SERICITE
Described as troctolite (any olivine?) or feldspar-rich gabbro; hand specimen shows mediumdark grey, fine- to medium-grained, relatively massive, almost featureless gabbro with very faint foliation SUb-perpendicular to core axis. The rock is not magnetic, shows no reaction to cold dilute HCI, and no stain for K-feldspar in the etched offcut. Modal mineralogy in thin section is approximately;
Plagioclase (labradorite?) 60% Clinopyroxene (augite?) 20% Olivine (partly relict) 12% Opaque (ilmenite, magnetite (partly secondary) 3-5% Amphibole (secondary, tremolitic!actinolitic) 1-2% Talc/sericite (after olivine) 1-2% Biotite 1% Clay?/sericite (after plagioclase) <1 % Apatite <1%
This gabbroic sample consists of fine-grained plagioclase hosting lesser mafic minerals (clinopyroxene; olivine partly altered to talc/sericite or tremolite/actinolite; rare biotite) plus significant accessory opaque oxides, trace apatite. It is relatively rich in plagioclase and olivine, but poor in clinopyroxene and biotite. Olivine distribution is even, with no obvious concentrations apparent.
Plagioclase forms mainly euhedral crystals mm long, with random orientations, but commonly glomeratic to 7 mm or so, commonly enclosing the mafic minerals in an ophitic texture. Twinning is regular but locally spindle-shaped; zoning is essentially absent. Composition appears to be calcic, around labradorite (An60) based on extinction YAOIO up to 31 degrees. The crystals are essentially unaltered apart from traces of clay?/sericite along microfractures.
Clinopyroxene forms somewhat irregular to skeletal, mainly subhedral crystals up to 2.5 mm long, rarely glomeratic to 3 mm. They locally include biotite or rare apatite (euhedra <0.4 mm long), but olivine/altered olivine and opaque oxides are mainly found around margins of pyroxene. The pyroxene has pale brownish colour and extinction angle about 45 degrees, suggestive of salitic augite. Alteration to almost colourless, secondary tremolitic-actinolitic amphibole is only rarely noted around the rims of some pyroxene (mainly adjacent to talc/sericite altered olivine).
Olivine occurs as (mainly only slightly altered) crystals with somewhat rounded/corroded, irregular sub/euhedral outlines up to almost 2 mm in diameter, locally partly replaced or rimmed by a zone in which the olivine is altered along fractures to fine-grained talc/sericite, intimately intermixed amphibole, and very fine-grained «20 micron) secondary magnetite (?) along the fractures. Th finegrained talc/sericite is difficult to distinguish from the fibrous, pale greenish to almost colourless amphibole (tremolite-actino1ite?), both mostly 50 microns in size.
Biotite occurs as small, sub/euhedral crystals mostly <0.75 mm in diameter (locally glomeratic, or mantling opaque oxides), with dark red-brown pleochroism, generally interstitial to pyroxene and plagioclase, and closely associated with oxides.
Accessory opaques are likely mostly ilmenite and magnetite, forming skeletal to irregular subhedral crystals up to 0.75 mm in diameter, interstitial to plagioclase/clinopyroxene/olivine and closely associated with the biotite.
In summary, this is fine, plagioclase-rich, biotite-olivine (troctolitic) gabbro with significant accessory opaque oxides (likely magnetite and ilmenite), and only minor alteration to tremoliticactinolitic amphibole, talc/sericite, minor secondary magnetite and traces of clay?/sericite.
