I am delighted to be writing this message to you, my first as the Chief Executive of Kentz Group. As you

may be aware, I joined the Company in the summer of 2011 and have spent the last eight months visiting many of our global operations and meeting our stakeholders; employees, clients, partners and shareholders.

It is exciting to be working for Kentz at such a progressive time in its history. Delivering projects in remote locations has been instrumental in building our reputation and repeat business with core clients is the lifeblood of our organisation. Recent successes include the signing of the Qatargas framework agreement (page 4), the Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium Joint Venture (page 5) and projects in new areas; Singapore, Jordan and South Korea.

Working in new and remote locations is not possible without a relentless focus on Health and Safety. Kentz employed an average of 14,000 people over the course of 2011 in 29 countries. During the year, Kentz teams around the world delivered in excess of 52.5 million man-hours with a total recordable incident ratio of 0.35. You can read about recent safety milestones achieved in Australia, South Africa and Madagascar on pages 14 and 15.

The passion and dedication of Kentz employees has impressed me tremendously, and I strongly believe this will be the key to our continued and future progress. The Company has undergone a period of significant growth

and the recruitment and development of people is more critical than ever to the success of our business. In this edition, you can read about our programme with Nottingham Business School to develop the next crop of leaders in Kentz (pages 18-19).

Strong leadership charting the course for the future is paramount and one of my first tasks has been to ensure the strength of our matrix organisation to provide the requisite flexibility to continue to expand. As part of this process, I am pleased to welcome Sharon

Paul as a new member of our senior management team in the role of Global Talent and People Development Officer (page 23). I am fortunate to have such a strong group of people in place working alongside me and a tremendous foundation that Hugh O’Donnell has laid in the business. I feel confident that we are on the right course and I look forward to the coming months and years and to sharing the Company’s future successes with you all.

New Framework agreement with Qatargas

US$32.7m Contract Award with Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium Joint Venture

Kentz is pleased to announce the signing of an engineering,

procurement and construction management (EPCM) framework agreement with Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas), in a joint venture with Foster Wheeler.

The framework agreement covers projects associated with the existing Qatargas Liquefied Natural Gas facility at Ras Laffan Industrial City and will include both onshore and offshore work. The agreement will be for three years, with an option to extend for a further two years. The booking values for the projects will be recorded as individual service orders are received. Foster Wheeler will provide a lot of the technology from its UK and Houston offices and Kentz will provide the in country engineering, design and management services.

Qatargas is due to issue invitations to its framework contractors to bid for specific

packages of work, including pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED), FEED and EPCM services.Tom Cullen, Country Manager, Qatar commented: “We are delighted to have reached this agreement with our joint venture partner, Foster Wheeler, and look forward to working together

In late 2011, Kentz in Saudi Arabia was awarded a contract for the reduction area electrical and

instrumentation on the Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium Joint Venture. The contract is worth in the order of US$32.7 million and was awarded to Kentz by Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium Joint Venture.

Kentz’s scope includes the installation of 30km of power cable, low voltage and control cables, lighting fixtures, small power distribution system, instrument field devices and control equipment. The work also includes pre-commissioning testing through to mechanical completion, procurement of electrical and instrumentation equipment and bulk materials.

The contract commenced in November 2011 and is scheduled to be complete in November 2013. It is anticipated to be in the order of 500,000 direct man-hours.

Queensland triumph for tss

Kentz in Australia is pleased to announce the award of the integrated

commissioning services contract on the Queensland Curtis (QCLNG) Project in Queensland, Australia. The contract is for an initial 12-month period, with an option to extend for a further two years.

Kentz’s scope includes the provision of multi-discipline commissioning and start-up services for the upstream facilities from 1,200 well sites, through 19 field compression stations, four central gas processing plants and 380km of pipeline supplying the LNG liquefaction plant.

QGC, a BG Group business, is developing coal seam gas in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland for domestic and export markets through

its Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) Project. The project’s first phase comprises two processing trains with a design life of at least 20 years, which will produce a combined 8.5 million tonnes of LNG a year. First LNG is expected in 2014.

Further Award in Papua New Guinea

Kentz was delighted to enter into a contract with the CBI Clough joint venture to

execute the electrical and instrumentation, construction and commissioning completions contract for the Papua New Guinea (PNG) LNG Project Hides Gas Conditioning Plant in late 2011.

The PNG LNG Project is an integrated development that includes natural gas production and processing facilities,

onshore and offshore pipelines and liquefaction facilities, with the capacity of 6.6 million tonnes per year.

Participating interests in the PNG LNG Project include Esso Highlands Limited as operator (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, 33.2 per cent), Oil Search Limited (29.0 per cent), National Petroleum Company PNG (PNG Government, 16.6 per cent), Santos Limited (13.5 per cent), Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (4.7 per

cent), Mineral Resources Development Company (PNG landowners, 2.8 per cent) and Petromin PNG Holdings Limited (0.2 per cent).

Broadening our Reach

+ South Korea

Kentz’s Technical Support Services team recently expanded its operations into South

Korea where it is performing fabrication work to support two of ExxonMobil’s projects which are part of the Sakhalin-1 Project based on the North of Sakhalin Island in Russia.

Kentz is providing resources to integrate and support Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL,) an affiliate of the ExxonMobil Corporation, with the systems completions effort on the projects. This falls under Kentz’s global services agreement to support ExxonMobil projects worldwide, established in early 2010.

The first project, the Chayvo Onshore Production Facility Expansion (COE), encompasses multiple work scopes providing additional water and gas handling capacity at the OPF, two additional generators and a pipeline to connect the Arkutun Dagi reservoir to the Orlan Full Well Stream line at Chayvo Beach.

The major gas and water modules to support this expansion are currently being fabricated at the Daewoo Shipyard in Okpo, South Korea (DSME) and are due to sail away in June 2012 for integration at the Chayvo facility. The Kentz team for the COE project in South Korea is headed by Declan McMahon,

Commissioning Manager for Technical Support Services.

The second project that Kentz is supporting is the Arkutun Dagi Platform (AD), a concrete gravity-based structure (GBS) which will eventually be located 25km offshore in Sakhalin, Russia, in a 35m water depth. The topsides for this platform are also under fabrication at the DSME shipyard. They consist of integrated process, drilling (rig design capable of 7km reach wells) and living quarters. When complete in 2013, the float-over installation of topsides will be the largest to date. The Kentz team for the AD project is headed by Paul Robinson, Commissioning Lead for Technical Support Services.

Kentz is delighted to have been awarded works associated with the US$100m

expansion of the Jordan Bromine Company plant, situated near the Dead Sea, 90 minutes south-west of the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Kentz was involved in the original plant design and construction from 2000 to 2002 and is pleased to be engaged in the next stage of the project.

Kentz’s scope of work includes the full construction management of the new Bromine, Calcium Bromine, Hydrogen Bromine and Tetra Bomine facilities, together with associated site services and utilities.

The Construction Management Team will provide all disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation. In addition, Kentz has the responsibility

for the detailed design of the utilities required to service this extension, which includes nitrogen generation, cooling towers, air compression, potable water and reverse osmosis plant and new facilities down in Aqaba in the far south of Jordan.

The project, which is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, is a joint venture between the Jordan Bromine Company and Albemarle Corporation, USA.

The unit produces Bromine, Hydrogen Bromide, Calcium Bromide, TBBPA (Tetra BromoBis-Phenol A) and the aim is to double the production capacity of the existing units.

Bromine is a very useful chemical product. Bromine compounds are effective pesticides, used as soil fumigants in agriculture and as a fumigant to prevent pests from attacking stored grain and other produce.

Bromine compounds are also used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and are important ingredients of many over-the-counter and prescription drugs including analgesics, sedatives and antihistamines. One of the other major uses of bromine is as a water purifier or disinfectant. Brominated compounds are used for water treatment in swimming pools and hot tubs and are also used to control algae and bacterial growth in industrial processes.

The production of Bromine is one of the most environmentally sustainable processes today, as it involves little more than a source of brine, which is salt water, readily available from the Dead Sea in Jordan, and the addition of Sodium Bromide which is a chemical compound with a very low toxicity. The production process can also re-use some waste streams generated during the overall generation of Bromine.

Construction work on site started in August 2011 with the structural steel for the Bromine plant under erection at present. Major activities such as the installation of the glass-lined tanks are due to start in early April 2012 with mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation to follow. The Bromine plant will be ready for commissioning towards the end of September 2012, with the balance of the extension due for completion by April 2013.

Moma Sands Moves on

Kentz is currently working on the electrical, control and instrumentation

contract for the Moma Sands Expansion Project in Mozambique. Kentz’s scope includes the supply and installation of all associated electrics including cabling and cable support systems, lighting, small power and the installation and commissioning of all associated control and instrumentation.

In September 2011, Kentz successfully completed the Wet Concentrated Plant (WCP) A Upgrade, during a shutdown at the Moma Mineral Sands Mine in Nampula Province, northern Mozambique.

The upgrade of the WCP A forms part of the overall Moma Sands Expansion Project at the Moma Mine which is owned by Irish-based Kenmare Resources. This project, in addition to the WCP A Upgrade, will see the erection of a second Wet Concentrator Plant, a Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation Plant (WHIMS), and an upgrade of the existing Mineral Separation Plant (MSP) and product storage facilities, as well as upgrades to overall site infrastructure. The expansion project will increase the mine’s capacity by an additional 50 per cent to 1.2 million tonnes of ilmenite per annum.

The construction phase of the project commenced in April 2011 and completion is scheduled for September 2012.

Chevron Australia’s Managing Director, Roy Krzywosinski, recently hosted a two

day Chief Executive Officer (CEO) safety leadership forum on Barrow Island involving more than 60 CEOs and senior managers from key contractors involved in the Project. Christian Brown, Kentz’s CEO, Hugh O’Donnell, Advisor to Kentz, Tommy Drumm, Senior Project Director, Gorgon Construction Village and Brian Kelly, Country Manager, Australia were delighted to be invited to attend.

The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is the largest single resource project in Australia’s history. A major component of the Project involves building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) and domestic gas plant on Barrow Island, a remote island approximately 60 km off the North West coast of Australia.

The forum attendees included senior management of the LNG plant Engineering Procurement Contractor management consortium, Kellogg Joint Venture Gorgon, comprising KBR, Clough, Hatch and JGC and other key contractors including Kentz.

Bringing these leaders from across Australia and around the world together on Barrow Island was a unique event. It demonstrated the commitment of each of these leaders to work together to achieve an outstanding safety performance on the Gorgon Project and to strive for a new standard for construction safety in Australia.

At the conclusion of the two days every attendee signed a Commitment Statement to a ‘Step Change in Safety Leadership Accountability.’

Safety Success around the World

Pluto SWI, Western AustraliaKentz’s Pluto Site Wide Instrumentation Project (SWI), situated on the North-west coast of Western Australia, achieved a major milestone in December 2011 of 500,000 man-hours, lost time and recordable injury free.The project started in February 2010 and has successfully completed over 9,000 instrument loops, commissioned 80% of the systems on site and is in the final stages of closing out the commissioning on the Pluto LNG plant.

This significant safety milestone was achieved by putting safety at the forefront of every task and engaging the entire project’s employees to be open and honest with safety concerns and promote exchange of ideas for continuous improvements.

The project is extremely proud of this accomplishment and recognised the event with issuing all the teams involved with Kentz-branded cooler bags.

Secunda 59, South AfricaIn South Africa, Kentz’s Secunda 59 – 17th Stream Reformer Project recently achieved 1.3 million man- hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI).

All construction installation activities have been completed on the project and Kentz is now busy working on client punch items and hydro test piping

systems. The commissioning team will then clean and bring all systems sold into operation. Insulation and painting is also still in progress. The project is expected to reach completion by the end of March 2012.

Rudi Boshoff, Project Construction Manager, expressed his delight at this fantastic achievement for the project team, as the preliminary project target was one million man-hours. He thanked all supervisors working on

the project for their positive approach towards safety. Rudi also gave special thanks to Barry Geldenhuys, Safety Manager, and his professional team for their efforts.

Congratulations to the team and may their success continue.

Amazing AmbatovyKentz in Madagascar is proud to have recently achieved over 7 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) on the Ambatovy Nickel and Cobalt Mining Project.

At the peak of construction, manpower was approximately 3,000 employees, made up of 450 expatriates, 650 locals and 1,900 Filipinos,who have been hard at work constructing a refinery and power plant in tough sub-tropical conditions. The array of complexities around

the construction presented unique challenges for the project team who did an excellent job in maintaining exceptional safety standards.

Colin Long, Project Manager, recently commented that “This achievement is down to the efforts of each individual on the Ambatovy project. The unwavering safety-focused attitudes of employees contributed towards Kentz achieving the over 7 million LTI-free man-hours milestone in Madagascar. Congratulations to each person on the project, we salute every one of you.”

The course kicked off with the group of apprentices taking part in a team-building exercise, followed by a three-day induction which focused on the Kentz’s core values of Safety, Teamwork and Reputation. The official launch took place at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth on 22nd November 2011. The new apprentices had the opportunity to mingle with members of the Kentz senior management from around the Group as well as the Balcatta College of Electrical Training team, clients from various projects, trade union representatives and friends of Kentz.

Mr Peter Collier, the Minister for Energy, Training and Workforce Development; Indigenous Affairs, sent a message of encouragement to the apprentices on the day of the launch: “I congratulate individual apprentices for recognising the importance of gaining a trade qualification that will significantly benefit their own future careers and will also benefit the economy of Western Australia. I strongly encourage you to make the most of this wonderful opportunity, and I wish you the very best of success for the future.”

The programme also includes the leadership of five mentors whose experience in the electrical field ranges from 13 to 40 years. The mentors attended mentorship training earlier in the week. At the launch, Helena Dempsey, Principal Advisor for Learning and Development in Australia, commended the mentors for offering to share their time and experience with the apprentices.

The successfully-appointed mentors are: Luke Ballantine, Supervisor on Henderson Gorgon Project; Ernie Sharpe, Supervisor on Worsley Project; Geoffrey Horsepool, Supervisor on Pluto; Lambertus Marias, Supervisor on Pluto and Zak Griffiths, Supervisor on Gorgon Construction Village.

Kentz employs 64 different nationalities worldwide and is delighted to have appointed three successful Indigenous Australians on the programme and one female apprentice. The second intake is due to begin before the end of 2012.

Brian Kelly, Country Manager, Australia had the following words to say at the launch: “Kentz has operated in Western Australia for 26 years and currently employees in excess of 850 Australian staff in the region. This was a logical step for us to take to support and develop the talent that exists here. We hope this group of apprentices will continue to work for Kentz for many years to come.”

Kentz offers a supportive environment in partnership with CET where the apprentices can grow and develop their skills and knowledge to the highest level. As part of the programme, apprentices will be provided with on-the-job training, on-going mentoring and a tailored development plan to ensure their success in the industry.

All Kentz employees on projects in Western Australia were given the opportunity to apply to the programme and were also able to recommend members of their family and friends. Applicants were subjected to a challenging assessment as well as a behavioural interview. The programme received a huge amount of interest and in early November, 16 candidates were selected to be part of the first intake of the apprenticeship programme.

Kentz in Australia is proud to announce the launch of its new apprenticeship programme rolled out at the end of 2011. The programme has been developed by Kentz together with the Balcatta College of Electrical Training (CET) and successful applicants are enrolled in a Certificate III in Electrotechnology course. The course has been designed around a four-year apprenticeship with the flexibility to expand the number of participants as the demand for apprentice roles increases.

The MSc Management and Leadership was launched with its first cohort of Kentz

managers in Nottingham in September 2010. We were asked to develop an MSc programme to meet the particular needs of the Company. We had run many similar programmes before, but the demanding roles and geographic spread of the managers at whom the programme was aimed offered us some particular challenges. Working closely with Kentz to identify its priorities for developing key individuals we arrived at a programme with short intensive study blocks, which runs twice a year, and an overall strategic focus to assessments which give students the chance to explore issues of genuine importance to the Company from a variety of functional perspectives.

Kentz is a really interesting company for us to be working with. Business educationalists

often stress the importance of internationalisation and global markets, and Kentz operates in a sector where there are dramatic extremes for managers to deal with. It is really exciting for us to be able to launch a discussion where individuals can pitch in with their experiences dealing with contrasting cultures and environments from all over the world.

We started working with Kentz at a particularly interesting time. Since the start of our initial discussions the Company has undergone a period of impressive growth, and become a publically listed company. A number of opportunities have arisen, meaning that the Company has needed to balance the tensions of delivering excellent local service with the need to deploy greater consistency across a growing global organisation.

A feature of Nottingham Business School masters programmes is real life

consultancy projects, in which students explore opportunities and issues within organisations. Kentz participants and their tutors have been given really good access to issues and genuine business improvement opportunities within the Company, and managers at all levels have been very supportive and helpful about sharing their knowledge and experience.

The participants on the course have been selected because they already have considerable experience and expertise in their particular roles. The people we have seen so far I would say share various key characteristics; they are all very self-reliant, with a keen interest in improving their effectiveness and meeting the challenges of their developing roles. The MSc programme brings together groups of students from a diverse range of countries, backgrounds and functional areas. Kentz students seem to work together exceptionally well, discussing

issues and problems we set them vociferously and with great enthusiasm, which means they are always a pleasure to teach.

What we aim to give students on our programmes is the ability to use more objective, theoretical approaches to issues, which can help managers to uncover hidden assumptions, and allow for a more creative analysis and problem solving. The range of assessed activities requires students to take an interest in the organisation above and beyond their own role and their own country, and encourages them to liaise with others on the course and to research areas they are unfamiliar with by talking to managers elsewhere.

This exploration of their own organisation ensures that the students on the programme have gained visibility within the Company. Some have had articles published, some of them have been tasked with interesting development activities, and some

have been promoted.The course benefits the organisation in a number of ways. The first and simplest of these is to bring together managers from across the organisation, whilst at the same time taking them away from the day-to-day demands of their roles.

Students attend two study blocks per year, and each year one of these is in Nottingham and the other one is based near the Company’s operations. Study blocks in Nottingham allow students the opportunity to come together, away from their everyday responsibilities, and consider the organisation more objectively. They are able to use the University library and other facilities in person, allowing them to research their assignments thoroughly and with access to support staff. Nottingham based study blocks also allow us the chance to use a variety of lecturers and professors, giving the students access to experts in a range

of business disciplines. Study blocks further afield, located near Kentz operational centres allow us to gain valuable input from Kentz managers based

near or visiting particular locations.

Early this year we completed a Consultancy module in Dubai, where the groups considered projects presented by Kentz managers on safety improvement and asset management, both key challenges for the Company.

Group reports were fed back in mid-February and will offer practical recommendations and implementation plans for future improvement. Through

these projects we have seen that participants completing the Nottingham Business School MSc Management and Leadership not only grow as individuals but have contributed tangible benefits to the Company as well.

Bright Young Things

Nearly three years ago Kentz approached Nottingham Trent University to establish an in-company postgraduate masters programme to develop managers across the Group. Here Dr Polly Pick, Programme Leader for the MSc Management and Leadership at Nottingham Business School talks about working with Kentz.

Maintenance and Shutdowns Go Global

vision is to grow the business internationally, as an extension of the services that Kentz is already providing to clients worldwide, while also exploring new ventures based on our extensive track record in servicing major oil and gas projects.

What differentiates Kentz’s offering in this area?

A. Kentz’s vast experience in the chemical, hydro carbons, forest products, metals and mining industries, has demonstrated that we can undertake the most demanding shutdown construction projects, completing the work within the time frame, whilst conforming to strict quality standards, cost effectiveness and safety standards.

There are a number of areas where Kentz is involved with greenfield and brownfield projects, which present excellent opportunities for us to offer our suite of services. Further within the TSS business unit, there are a number of major facilities where we are currently providing completions and commissioning services; these are the types of opportunities that we intend to pursue and convert into ongoing Maintenance and Shutdown contracts in the operational expenditure (opex) phase of projects.

Q. How transportable is your business worldwide and how would you leverage the existing client base to grow an international business?

A. As you know, the world has become a small place

and Kentz’s reputation travels internationally within our industry. Our main focus now is to understand where we can be competitive, where we can leverage our skills and form synergies and working relationships with our various partners and clients. Maintenance and shutdowns type work is very much built around alignment with clients’ strategies and this will be our priority.

Q. How important are client relationships when it comes to Opex-type work?

A. Sound client relationships based on safety performance, quality of workmanship and ability to execute, are fundamental to being able to perform opex-type work. Clients need certainty when it comes to plant integrity and right-first-time-on-time is the only option. Kentz prides itself on its reputation, its dedication to an incident-free workplace and providing a proven Quality Management System. We can market our opex services based on the sound relationships that have been forged over the years by the Construction and Specialist EPC Business Units.

Q. What are the fundamental differences and difficulties in the international business development approach and how can you overcome these?

A. The main difference when pursuing maintenance and shutdown type opportunities is the terms of contract, in that most clients take a medium- to long-term view on their maintenance and shutdown strategies. Hence, many contracts are awarded on a five-year or even 10-year basis. On the down-side, this may mean that these contracts do not come up for bidding too often; however, a longer term business strategy can be built in new areas around contracts that run for longer terms.

We have also seen that clients’ maintenance strategies vary quite considerably, thus requiring us to be flexible in our approach. This, in certain cases, requires us to work with specialist service providers and/or local partners. Each case is unique and challenging, both from a developmental and operational perspective.

Q. What challenges do you face with capacity management and how do you intend dealing with this?

A. Capacity management is vital to facilitate the growth of our business internationally. This, coupled with infrastructural support mechanisms, allows us to accelerate the training of existing and new employees on the unique way of our business. Our focus, therefore, is to provide an environment which attracts and retains high calibre employees. The environment must provide the necessary opportunities, challenges, rewards and success platforms for employees that join the Kentz family.

The Kentz Maintenance and Shutdowns Division of the Technical Support

Services (TSS) Business Unit is poised to enter a new and exciting phase of its history in the coming year. Headed up by the newly-appointed Global Business Unit Manager, Carlo Marengo, and supported by Jason English, Global Maintenance and Shutdowns Business Development Manager and Wayne Dos Santos Niz, Global Maintenance and Shutdowns Commercial and Contracts Manager, the team has developed an exciting global expansion strategy.

Carlo Marengo has been with Kentz for over 15 years and brings with him a wealth of experience in project management, with specific emphasis in operations support to major oil and gas upstream and downstream clients in a maintenance, shutdowns and brown-field projects capacity. Carlo has spent the last five years as Business Unit Manager of the South African Maintenance and Shutdowns Division and during this time has grown the business consistently year-on-year. This success has been realised through focus on business development, infrastructural support

mechanisms development and resource capacity and growth. Carlo will be taking on the lead role of international business development and ultimately providing support to the operational opportunities that arise.

Wayne Dos Santos Niz has also been with Kentz for over 15 years and has taken up the position of Global Maintenance and Shutdowns Commercial and Contracts Manager. As Regional Commercial and Contracts Manager, Wayne has been instrumental in facilitating the growth within the Maintenance and Shutdowns business over the last five years. He brings with him extensive international experience in the commercial, contractual, proposals and estimations field and will be focusing on supporting the global business unit expansion both during development and execution phases.

Jason English has been with Kentz for over 10 years and moves into the position of Global Maintenance and Shutdowns Business Development Manager. Jason has extensive experience in contract administration, project management and execution and brings a dynamic energy to the business development initiative. His primary focus going forward will be to pursue suitable international growth opportunities and facilitate the effort to win new contracts in new locations.

Q: What is your vision for the maintenance and shutdowns global business unit expansion?

A. The global expansion strategy has been developed over the last number of months to build on the experience and history of the existing Maintenance and Shutdowns business unit, while also leveraging other opportunities from within the TSS, Construction and Specialist EPC Business Units.

The growth strategy therefore focuses on four main areas - inter-business unit synergies, leveraging client relationships, new areas of business development and capacity management. Our

Successful Completion on RALF

Kentz in Qatar achieved a major milestone when it handed over of the Receiving and

Loading Facility (RALF) Project to the Laffan Refinery Company last year.

Kentz was the EPC Contractor on the project and Mr. Salman Ashkanani, Venture Manager for Laffan Refinery congratulated Kentz on its successful and timely completion of the project. The project was also completed without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI), consolidating Qatargas’s reputation for world class safety performance.

Extending his congratulations to both the project team and Kentz on this key milestone for the State of Qatar, Mr. Ashkanani stated: “This achievement was the result of solid commitment, professionalism and the dedicated teamwork between the Project Management Team and Kentz as the EPC Contractor.” James Moore, Chief Operating Officer, Specialist EPC Business Unit, thanked Mr. Ashkanani and the Project Management Team for its support throughout the entire project and recognised the effective teamwork that had made the job a success.

In June 2011, Laffan Refinery Company officially handed over the Receiving and Loading Facility to the operators, Qatar Fuel (WOQOD). Mr. Ashkanani stated that “The project had been delivered on schedule within the approved budget” and that “the successful start-up and handover of this project marks an important milestone in the State of Qatar’s strategic vision as well as a resounding success for the Laffan Refinery Company”. WOQOD will operate the facility to supply the domestic market, affording Qatar greater hydrocarbon self-sufficiency and reducing its reliance on imports.

Kentz is delighted to announce the appointment of Sharon Paul to the newly-

created role of Group Talent and People Development Officer.

Sharon joined Kentz in January 2012 and has responsibility for Kentz’s global Human Resources function and talent management, including employee recruitment, retention, performance management, training and development. She will be based in Houston, Texas, reporting directly to the Chief Executive, Christian Brown.

Sharon has over 25 years of Human Resources’ experience in the oil and gas and environmental industries. Prior to joining Kentz, she spent nine years at Mustang Engineering, a Wood Group Company, where she held the position of Vice-President of Organisational Development and Global Human Resources. She holds a Master of Science degree in Organisational Science from Villanova University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Messiah College.

Sharon’s initial focus within her new role will be to expand and enhance Kentz’s training and development programmes, with an aim to be the best in the industry. This will involve implementing robust talent management tools and systems to facilitate Kentz’s effectiveness in managing and developing its people to their fullest potential.

Sharon also sees an opportunity to leverage Kentz’s brand as a top employer in our industry to attract high quality talent in our global markets and match our business growth expectations. Another area of focus will be to strengthen our process EPC capabilities and the matrix functions to continue delivery of best-in-class services.

What constitutes Bribery?As outlined in the Code of Business Conduct, a bribe is any gift, loan, payment or other benefit offered, given or received with the intention of gaining a business advantage or inducing improper conduct by the person receiving it. Specifically, this includes clients or government officials who have the potential to make decisions favourable to Kentz or one of its Group companies. It may include excessive or inappropriate hospitality. The giving or receiving of such gifts,

loans, payments or benefits, both in relation to government officials and private individuals, is specifically prohibited, unless they are only of a small token nature, for example, a modest promotional item.

Each situation will differ. However, in essence, a gift should not be of a value that would or appear to influence an individual’s decision. For both gifts and hospitality, employees should exercise good judgment in deciding whether to accept or offer them, and seek advice from their managers if doubts arise.

In relation to the procurement of materials, should employees be offered inappropriate gifts or hospitality from bidders or

vendors, then it should be reported to their managers who will decide if an existing contract should be cancelled and/or to remove the vendor from Kentz’s list of qualified bidders.

Consistent with the rationale behind non-acceptance of gifts, accepting lavish hospitality may create a conflict of interest or appear to compromise the integrity of an employee’s decision in the selection of bidder for the supply of goods or related services. While such courtesies may promote successful working relationships and goodwill, the frequency and scale of hospitality received by an employee (or immediate family members) must not reach a level whereby the employee

might reasonably be seen as being influenced in a business transaction. The Code cannot outline rules for every situation but requires all employees to err on the side of caution. If an employee is in any doubt about a given situation, he/she should consult his/her line manager who may, in turn, refer it to the Group Compliance Officer. The Group wants to prevent even the appearance of bribery or corruption in relation to Kentz, as acts or allegations of bribery can damage the Group’s reputation.

Kentz Training Solutions (KTS), in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa,

recently received the Best Training Partner Award at the 2011 Annual Siemens Industry Automation Partner Award ceremony held in Johannesburg. The award was presented by Des Burrows, General Manager, Service Delivery, Siemens and received on behalf of Kentz Training Solutions by Jaco Nortje, Training Specialist, Specialist EPC Business Unit.

Siemens initiated “The Best Training Partner” award in 2008. This is the second year in a row that Kentz Training Solutions has earned this major

achievement. There are various criteria considered for a Training Partner to qualify and receive this award. They include being an ambassador for Siemens, the amount of income generated from royalties, innovation and the number of different courses offered by the partner. MEDUPI GIVES BACK

During 2011, the Kentz Medupi Project team in South Africa, together with its client

GEA and main labour broker Isizwe, participated in the refurbishment of a crèche in Ra-Seleka. Ra-Seleka is one of the villages where most of Kentz’s local employees reside, so it was a great opportunity for the Company to give back to the local community. Seleka comprises a total of 25 villages, each with a population of approximately 2,000.

The project commenced with a team comprising Chris Dumas, Contract Manager, Nicol Kriek, Industrial Relations Officer, and Tom Leacy, Site Manager, going to view the facilities at the Alice crèche. While there, the team met with the local chief, the

town councillors and the local Ladies’ Committee.

The grounds include a drop-in centre and a separate crèche facility catering for local children, some of whom have been affected by the HIV pandemic.

There are approximately 60 children at the crèche, their ages ranging from infants through to six years old. At the time of the visit, the facilities were rudimentary and provided for the very basic needs of the young children. When the team visited

the crèche, it comprised a single building, fenced with five strands of barbed wire fixed to wooden posts. The fencing was not in good order and the grounds were bare, apart from two trees. The crèche was connected to the electricity supply, but there was no running water or indoor toilet or shower facilities. The only toilet was outside in a galvanised hut. There was a mains water pipe on the road that runs along the property boundary but this was not connected to the crèche.

The crèche had absolutely no facilities to stimulate the children or create play situations. Basic necessities in terms of proper hygiene and catering for young children did not exist. The team was also advised that delivery of food by the Social Services and Health Department was erratic, often late and sometimes there was no food.

The team was touched by the conditions these children were living in and decided to

employ a local contractor from the community to perform the refurbishment work. The three companies shared the cost of the refurbishment and in addition, Kentz purchased a “jungle gym” for the children to have some fun. The project was initiated in late 2010 and the first phase was completed during 2011.

The refurbishment commenced with the main crèche building receiving a new roof, an additional office for the headmaster and three indoor toilets. It was also completely re-painted and new secure fencing was put in place.The next step will be to connect running water to the building and fit out sinks, a kitchen and storage units.

The members of Seleka Traditional Council expressed their thanks to Kentz on behalf of the entire Seleka village community and the children are already enjoying their new facilities.

Kentz recently exhibited at the 20th World Petroleum Congress (WPC) which took

place in the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha, Qatar from 4th to 8th December 2011 and was attended by over 8,000 senior executives from the global oil and gas industry. The week-long assembly featured numerous industry discussion sessions and topical presentations. It provided a fantastic opportunity for Kentz senior management, and the teams from throughout the Middle East, to meet with so many international and national resource clients in one place.

Eddie Lewis, Group Development Officer for Kentz, commented: “We had an extremely busy and productive week at the WPC. It was great to see so many of our clients and friends from the industry at our networking reception and dropping by the Kentz stand. I would like to thank all the Kentz management and staff for their commitment to making it such a success.”

In the last number of years, Kentz has committed time and resource to implementing training

and development schemes across its global operations.The Company actively seeks opportunities to improve its performance and is committed to contributing positively to the communities in which it

operates. These programmes also serve to address certain skill shortages needed for the successful development of global resource projects.

Kentz Training Solutions, based at its Chamdor fabrication facility in the West Rand of Johannesburg, was established in March 2010. It offers less-

skilled workers from the local area the opportunity to achieve a certificate of accreditation in a number of disciplines, awarded by the Government’s Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA or Sector Education and Training Authority. Currently, the facility enlists over 80 trainees in disciplines ranging from pipe-fitters, boilermakers, semi-automatic welders and electricians, all of whom have the possibility to progress to certified status.

In January 2012, Kentz Training Solutions obtained an ISO 3834 accreditation, an internationally-recognised standard and

accreditation body that sets out mandated protocols for manufacturers to meet in order to comply with best practice in their welding operations. The Chamdor Fabrication and Training Facility is one of only a handful of African suppliers who have managed to obtain this world class accreditation.

Hayley Barker, Regional Human Resources Manager for Africa,has been instrumental in the delivery of the training centre at the Chamdor facility. Hayley, who has worked for Kentz for over 20 years, is passionate about training and development. She commented: “The Chamdor facility is not just about upskilling a few people from the local area, it is about building a long-term sustainable benefit to our industry; to meet project requirements throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries, and to ensure a higher competency level of workmanship on all projects. There are many associated benefits to this, including a more socially and geographically-mobile workforce and more importantly for Kentz, a significant improvement in standards of safety, as well as the overall quality of work.”

The Chamdor facility boasts a 23,735m² complex including a training bay, two fabrication shops and a lay-down area. It has been the backbone of the supply chain for piping and spools for a number of important projects in the region including Vale (Moatize Coal Mine, Mozambique), Rio Tinto (Tails Treatment Plant, Richards Bay), Foster Wheeler SA (Fisher Tropsch Wax Expansion Project, Sasolburg), GEA (Medupi Power Station, Lephlale) and Sastech and Fluor (GHERRs project, Secunda).

Chamdor provides quality assured fabrication of the highest standards and with all auxiliary components and available resources, it is able to deliver between 20,000 and 35,000 welding diameter inches per month. Recent upgrades include two large and two small column-and--boom welding machines, new welding manipulators and rotating equipment, all of which are utilised in the fabrication of cylindrical ducting and structures of large diameters. Kentz continues to invest in the facility and is fully committed to growing its potential further, to ensure that it plays a pivotal role in delivery requirements of the African region in the future.

Like Kentz, WaterAid operates in over 27 countries including India, Madagascar, Papua

New Guinea and Mozambique. Working in some of the world’s poorest communities, WaterAid transforms lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. WaterAid works with partner organisations to provide practical technology and sustainable solutions which are cost-effective and fit-for-purpose. WaterAid and its partners work with local communities to build water points and latrines and give simple engineering training and promote good hygiene practices. Working in schools

can play a vital role in keeping children in education and disseminating hygiene messages to the wider community, thus reducing incidences of diarrhoea caused by dirty water and poor sanitation

After meeting with the WaterAid team and hearing about the fantastic work they do across the globe, Kentz decided to support WaterAid projects in Madagascar and India. Kentz is currently working on the Ambatovy Nickel and Cobalt Mining Project in Madagascar and hires a large proportion of its workforce from different regions of India.

MadagascarMadagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. Water supply coverage is 41 per cent and only 11 per cent of the country is covered with sanitation. As a result, 69 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line, economic activity is reduced and education levels are low.

Madagascar is highly susceptible to cyclones, often adversely affecting its poorest

communities and reducing the number of people with access to clean water and improved sanitation. During 2011, WaterAid worked with eight local partners in five regions of Madagascar to dramatically improve health and quality of life of more than 40,000 individuals through improved access to safe water and hygienic sanitation facilities.

WaterAid works with local partner organisations who understand local issues, to ensure the sustainability of its projects. In Madagascar, WaterAid has worked with communities to explore ways of building facilities resilient to extreme weather events, including cyclones and flooding. In 2011, 45 community workers, 41 teachers and 88 new community water and sanitation engineers have been trained to maintain the facilities.

In Analamanga, WaterAid hosted a Scout Camp, where Scouts from all regions of Madagascar came together to learn about the effects of access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene practices on the livelihoods within their communities. WaterAid provided communications materials and ran educational activities during the camp.

IndiaIndia’s economy is the fourth largest in the world, yet vast inequalities and poverty continue to exist. WaterAid’s work in India aims to support service delivery of water and sanitation facilities to the poorest communities and to support State programmes and key stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector to deliver sustainable health and hygiene benefits. WaterAid also works to influence policies so that poor and socially excluded communities are able to demand their rights to water and sanitation, ensuring that its work has a sustainable, long-term impact.

During 2011, the Orissa State organised a hygiene campaign in 63,000 primary and secondary schools, reaching over 400,000 people with clean water and improved sanitation. Models of community-led solid water management system; menstrual hygiene and water quality projects have been established and replicated by the Government in Jharkhand, Utar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The village of Chinnavilai, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu in India and the surrounding villages were

affected by the Tsunami of 2003. Initially, WaterAid focused on creating clean water and sanitation to address the immediate needs. In later years, emphasis moved on to hygiene promotion and facilitating community management systems. A community-led solid waste management system was implemented and now the community pays 20 rupees (approx. 30p) per month, per household for solid waste management, which covers the salaries of the workers involved.

Kentz is proud to be aligned with WaterAid and its aspirations to make a sustainable difference to the thousands of people’s lives every year by giving them access to basic services through simple engineering solutions. In late December 2011, the Kentz USA office moved to a new building in Houston, Texas. The new office,

located at 1800 West Loop South, Suite 1800, Houston, is a larger space to accommodate the growing US-based team. This office move was just in time for the New Year and welcomes new employees, Sharon Paul and Tina Smith.

Kentz has been operating in the United States since 1995 and the Technical Support Services team continues to work on a number of projects there for ExxonMobil. Michael Costello, Regional Development Director for the Americas hopes to host an official office opening in the coming months for valued clients and friends of Kentz - we’ll keep you posted!

New Year, New Place

In late 2011, Kentz in Russia initiated a Christmas appeal to provide funding to support a local orphanage. Peter

Ross, Country Manager, Russia, appealed to all employees located at both the office and all project sites to dig deep for the benefit of the local children. In return, Kentz committed to match the collective donation made by all employees.

Svetlana Egorova, Regional Branding Co-ordinator found an orphanage located in the small village of Gornozavodsk, south-west of Yuzhnoover, two hours’ drive from the Kentz Yuzhno office.

Working in conjunction with the management of the orphanage, Svetlana assessed the most pressing requirements and it was decided that sports equipment would be most

beneficial as all physical education and sporting activities had stopped due to lack of equipment. In addition to indoor equipment, Kentz also donated winter equipment such as ice skates, skis and sledges.

With all donations gratefully received, the Kentz team also decided to organise individual Christmas presents for the 100 children resident in the orphanage, along with

a traditional Christmas tree complete with its customary lights and decorations.

On Monday 19thDecember, Kentz’s Senior Management travelled to the Orphanage to present the gifts directly to the children. In attendance were Mike Murphy, Chief Operating Officer, Technical Support Services; Eoghan O’Sullivan, Financial Manager of Kentz Russia; Tom Leacy,

Project Director of Kentz COE project; and Peter Ross, who were all treated to an amazing performance of songs and dance by the children and staff of the orphanage before all toys and gifts were distributed.

Mike Murphy and Peter Ross both spoke on behalf of Kentz and expressed their happiness at being able to contribute to the children’s Christmas celebrations. Mike Murphy also presented a digital camera

to Irina Sin, Director of the Orphanage, as a token of appreciation of her hard work and dedication to the lives of the children there. It was all fun and games then as each child was presented with their individual presents.

new Meet our Team feature; in each edition,

you will be introduced to a new selection of employees based on one of Kentz’s projects around the world.

For this first edition, we are meeting some of the team from the Barrick Gold Pueblo Viejo Project in the Dominican Republic, located in Sanchez Ramirez Province, approximately 100 km north-northwest of Santo Domingo, the capital city. This project falls under the Construction Business Unit and Kentz is presently working on two separate contracts on the K570 North Side and K574 South Side. The portfolio mainly consists of construction activities for the electrical and instrumentation installation on the facility. The client is Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation (PVDC), of which Barrick holds a 60 per cent interest and is the operator, with Goldcorp owning the remaining interest.As of February 2012, the project team achieved 1.7 million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).The project commenced in October 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by April 2012, with the goal of maintaining zero LTIs.

Alvaro Mendez My name is Alvaro and I am a QAQC Manager. I am originally from Colombia, in South America. I have two boys, aged four and nine years old, with my lovely wife Clara. If someone asked me to define

this experience in one word, I would say unforgettable. I have already participated in several projects for Kentz in the Middle East and I can say I really enjoy the challenges. I enjoy working with a team of capable and competent people, who I try to learn from and also teach whenever I can. Furthermore, this country offers a variety of places to visit, very similar to the northern coast of my own country. Despite being a two and a half hour flight from home, I try to make up all the time that I can to my family. They make videos and take photographs for me to look at in my spare time. What I miss most is Clara’s cooking. In my spare time, I study languages, read, make model airplanes and I am also interested in astronomy.

Alan CurtinMy name is Alan, and I am a Construction Manager from Ireland. I have one son named Jamie. I have been working away from home for the past 18 months and it has been a challenge adapting and dealing with varied cultures, but a positive experience. The things I miss the most about home are my family, friends and good food! I am enjoying working on this challenging project due to the engineering, material and schedule qualities. It is also a benefit to meet people that one can learn valuable lessons from. In my spare time, I skype Ireland, plan my rotations (rest and relaxation) and enjoy the Dominican country and all it has to offer. There is never a dull moment here as we have

been evacuated from the site due to hurricanes, storm threats and possible dam leaks! I miss rallying in Escort Mk 2s, and I have started to learn Spanish.

Gail MontilvaMy name is Gail; I am a Trinidadian national and a HSE Manager, currently based in the Dominican Republic. I am married and have two boys, aged one and three years old. Working away from home has its challenges. I miss my dear family and friends a lot and, of course, there is no food like true “Trini” food (local Trinidad cuisine). On the other hand, I do enjoy the Dominican Republic; it is a quite beautiful country and the tourist attractions are amazing. I use my spare time to have fun with my children and relax and sneak in some good shopping!

Brendan DowdMy name is Brendan and I am a Construction Manager. I come from Ireland and have been working with Kentz for the last seven years, in Trinidad & Tobago, Sakhalin, Russia and now the Dominican Republic. I like to travel and enjoy seeing new cultures and the way other people live. Every job is a new challenge, where you have to push yourself to overcome the

obstacles, meeting new people along the way and gaining experience. I miss the long evenings during the summer time at home in Ireland and the general craic and atmosphere. The things I like the most about working in the Dominican Republic is the hot climate and the beaches when I get the chance! With the hours we are working on this project at the moment, we don’t have a lot of time, so it is mostly work, home, food, and bed!

Niels CanalsMy name is Niels and I am a Payroll Officer. I am from Dominican Republic and am married to Luis Caba and we have two children, Tommy (9 years old) and Jordan (6 years old). I travel to site every day from home and it is a good experience. What I like the most about working at Kentz is all the interesting people that I have met, from different nationalities, cultures and knowledge. I am so happy to be part of my team because they are good and hardworking people. In my spare time I like to watch TV, sleep, and go shopping. I also enjoy some handcrafting and have a good time with my family.

Pepito Dayag My name is Pepito Dayag but my colleagues call me Louie; I am Filipino and am working as a Senior Planning Engineer. I have been away from home since I accepted an overseas job and joined Kentz in Saudi Arabia in August 1992. Working away from home takes a lot of courage and sacrifice, especially as you will be meeting and interacting with different nationalities and cultures. What I miss about home is that when I wake up in the morning, my food is not ready on the table and my family is not with me. What I like most about working on this project is that I gained additional experience aside from the petrochemical projects that I am used to in Saudi Arabia, as this is a mining and mineral extraction plant. On top of that, the location is the Caribbean where everybody wants to go for a vacation. During my spare time, I am usually in front of my laptop or I go for a dip with my colleagues at one of the famous beaches or sometimes explore various places of the country.

Michael MorrisseyI am Michael and I am from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford in Ireland. I am Human Resource and Industrial Relations Manager. I have been working away from home with Kentz since 1989 in Europe, Middle East, Africa, China, America and the Caribbean. I am married to Maeve and she has been with me to some of the more salubrious postings. I miss my family, good food, wine, the seaside and my golf and sports.

The Barrick Gold PVDC Project is a challenging one and we are focused on taking it over the line with success for all. There is not a lot of spare time but a little golf, some sightseeing and a cold one fits the bill.

Shaji Menhal My name is Shaji and I am the Country Project Accountant for the Dominican Republic. I am from India; I am still single and stay with my parents, three brothers and two sisters when I visit home. At the beginning, I found working away from home very difficult and I felt very lonely but my manager always supported me in all the issues, so now I am feeling very comfortable and enjoy the homely atmosphere in Kentz. The Dominican Republic is blessed with nice beaches and I like to visit them and listen to music in my spare time. I miss my Mom’s cooked food the most, yummy!

Sherwyn A. GreeneMy name is Sherwyn and I am the MIS Manager and I am Guyanese. I am married to Abigail and we have two sons, Jeremiah and Jeremy. I have been working away from home in a foreign culture for the past 18 months and it has been most challenging for me but all in all, a good experience. I miss my wife and kids and hunting iguanas. When I have some spare time, I love to visit the beaches, cook and talk with my family via Skype.

Willem SpiesI am Willem, and I am an Electrical Engineer. I am from South Africa and I am married to Sandra and we have two sons Armand, aged 14 and Wian, aged five. I have been working away from home for the last two years and it is never easy, especially for the kids. It is my first time working with Kentz and I enjoy it tremendously. It would have been nice if I could have been here from the start of the project. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful place and not close to what I expected it to be. My previous location was in Madagascar and there is a huge difference economically between the two islands. In my spare time when at home, I enjoy golf and a cold one afterwards.

Najelly SosaMy name is Najelly Sosa, I am a HR/IR Officer and I am from Santo Domingo, the capital city of Dominican Republic. My family includes my mom, my four sisters and my precious baby and me. I am working away from home and it feels very sad sometimes because I feel alone, but luckily I’m only some kilometers away from them so I can see my family every weekend. I miss seeing my baby boy and my mother and sisters every day. The best thing about working in this part of the country is the weather and the quietness. There is no traffic or noise. When I have spare time I like to watch some movies and chat on my cellphone.
