A drug is a substance which may

have medicinal, intoxicating, performance

enhancing or other effects when taken or put

into a human body or the body of

another animal and is not considered

a food or exclusively a food.

How are drugs classified?Drugs are commonly classified according to their legal status or

their effects on the central nervous system. Legal and illegal drugs

Laws and regulationscontrol the availability,quality and price of the

"legal" drugs. For example,tobacco may not be sold topersons under the age of18.

Illegal drugsBecause they are illegal, there areno price or quality controls on theillicit drugs such as heroin and

ecstasy. This means that a user cannever be sure that the drug theyare taking is in fact what they thinkit is. The user also cannot be sureof a drug's strength or purity.

Various batches of an illegallymanufactured drug may havedifferent mixtures of the drug andadditives such as poisons, caffeineor even talcum powder.

EFFECT OF DRUGS ON FAMILYChildren

The effects of drug abuse on children, particularly when a parent is the

addict, include painful feelings of responsibility, assuming the role of themissing parent (who is now the child figure), belief that their childhoodexperiences have been taken and the abandonment of faith in a strongparental figure.

Parents

For parents who discover their child's drug abuse, the immediate effectsinclude overwhelming feelings of anger because the child placed himselfin a dangerous situation and guilt from thinking they should have knownor could have stopped the addiction.

Spouses or Partners

Significant others tend to feel responsible for a partner's addiction, thepain the partner is suppressing with drugs. This leaves them with a senseof obligation to support their partner by covering for them, lying,enabling and altering work schedules to deal with the drug abuser.

Enforement of our law should be strenghten further

in order to curb these drug abusers and dealers.

Reduce the permit of entertainment licenses

(Nightclub, Cyber cafes and Massage parlour) forthese activities are prone to drug dealing.

Increase the awareness of drug abuse and HIV

toward the public, through education andcampaigns.

Free health screening for people who think they are

between countries. This is to prevent drug

trafficking into our country.

Drug abuse have cause many problems toward an

individual, families, societies and countries.

If this issue is not resolved, it will cause

tremendous harm and destruction which wouldlead to the fall of mankind.

Therefore, everybody and every part of the

society must take drastic action to curb drugabuse in order to maintain order and stability for

our generation to come.
