Drying under vacuum isa widely used thermalprocess in many bran-ches.

The objective of this pro-cess is to gently dry highquality products contai-ning water or solventswithout modifying theproduct characteristics.

During vacuum drying,the overall pressure inthe drying oven is re-duced so that water orsolvents start changingfrom the liquid to thevapor phase at low tem-peratures.

The drying process canbe optimized by carefulcontrol of the heat andpressure.

As a matter of principle,a vacuum drying systemconsists of a drying ovenwith heating system, avacuum pump assemblydesigned specifically forthe drying process and amatching control.

This vacuum drying ovenis suitable for setup andoperation in explosion-hazard areas.

All parts of the vacuumchamber coming intocontact with the productconsist of high qualitystainless steel or specialmaterial such as Hastel-loy, Inconel or Titanium.

The sur faces are groundand polished.

Star-shaped handles with safety design. When the pressurein the chamber increases excessively (≤ 100 mbar), thespring-tensioned star-shaped handles release the door.

This device consists prima-rely of a cleaning lancewith driven spray headsand an electric or pneu-matic drive.

The special two door design allows ergonomic handling of the system. The doors can be turned around 180° for cleaning purpose.

The isolator can be loaded with the product through a loadlock or Rapid Transfer Ports. The trays filled with the product

will be placed onto the shelves of the vacuum tray dryer.

For drying toxic and high sensitive products, PINK developed a special solution – a vacuum tray dryer withattached isolator.

The vacuum drying oven VT is designed for versatile application.

This drying oven consists of an extensive chamber with easily removableinserts in the form of double-wall heating plates.

The inserts can be heated or cooled. The connections lead through the rearwall and are vacuum-tight. If desired by the customer, the side walls as wellas floor, ceiling and door can also be heated.

This concept allows production of sizes with shelf area of up to approx. 50 m2 and chamber volumes of 8 m3. The production chamber can be executed to meet GMP approval to the greatest extent.

Other versions such as push-through types, as well as versions for wallinstallation or explosion-hazard can also be realized with this model.

The vacuum drying oven is suitable for setup and opera-tion in explosion-hazard areas.

All parts of the vacuum chamber coming into contactwith the product consist of high quality stainless steel orspecial material such as Hastelloy, Inconel or Titanium.The sur faces are ground and polished.

The front side of the vacuum drying oven is equippedwith a circumferential mounting frame for wall installa-tion; the wall is welded tightly to the vacuum chamber.

The removable inserts for hot water or thermal oil aredesigned with double walls and with one inlet and outletflange each running through the rear wall and sealedvacuum-tight.

The vacuum drying oven is tested for leakage with heliumor using the pressure increase method. This test is con-firmed by a test certificate.

If a product, which is con-tained in a product carrieror has poor heat couplingvia heat conduction due to its own structure, is to be dried under vacuum,the combination of two different types of drying -vacuum plus circulating air - is most practical.

The product is heated upto a certain temperatureby the circulating air. Then the product chamberis evacuated allowing evaporation or drying. This procedure can be re-peated a number of timesdepending on the dryingcurve and desired results.

For drying under normal atmospheric pressure as wellas heating, tempering and sterilization, PINK offers aseries of circulating air ovens in different versions andmaterial qualities.

For effective utilization of the oven in the production sequence, charging can be accomplished with chargingcarts. Temperature-resistant HEPA filters up to filter classH13 DIN EN 1822-1 can be used when particular require-ments for cleanliness are placed on the circulating air.

Dependable DryingCirculating Air Drying Oven with External Solvent Recovery System

Design according to guideline 1994 ⁄ 9 ⁄ EG (ATEX 100a),suitable for operation in zone 1, temperature class T1-T4.

Vacuum processes are normally used to dry productscontaining solvents or water-based moisture. However, as not all products are suitable for drying in a vacuum, a new forced-air dryer with a very high solvent recovery rate has been developed for use atatmospheric pressure.

In contrast to other designs, external recovery allowsyou to condense, collect and dispose of solvents even if they are potentially explosive. The course of the drying process as follows:

A loading cart, which contains the product trays, is usedto load the product chamber in the dryer. A separatesupport cart can be used to avoid contamination whenthe loading cart is being moved to and in the dryer. Afterloading, the internal chamber is purged with inert gasuntil the explosive concentration falls below the ignitionpoint. The fans and heater are then turned on, and thedrying process starts. The gas atmosphere that nowcontains solvents can be fed to the external condenserin partial flow mode. The condensed vapor is collectedin an demister unit and moved to a secure container.Because the system uses a closed cycle, the remainingpartial flow is returned to the system.

No emissions into the environment

No hazardous substances are released into the environ-ment by this recovery method. Another advantage ofexternal recovery compared to internal recovery is thatthe drying temperature in the forced-air oven is notaffected by the condensation process. This has a significant effect on uniform drying of a complete batch.

Option

By drying aqueous products the oven can be used by circulating air with adjustable fresh air rate.
