Our Solar System Mercury

Planets
Inner PlanetsMercury
Mercury is the first
planet and is the closest to the sun . It is too hot to
hold life. Mercury is a rock planet. It also has a very thin atmosphe
re
Venus Venus
is the second planet
next to mercury and like mercury is named
after a Greek
god. Most of Venus is made
of volcanoes
.
Earth Earth is where we live . It is the third planet
from the sun. It is
in the perfect place to hold life. That is why we
are here. In my
opinion it is the
best .
Mars Mars
was named
after the Roman god of
war . it is the fourth
planet from the sun. It is a rock
planet. It is also
where the rover
Curiosity is based.
The inner planets are closest to the sun .

Outer Planets
JupiterJupiter, the most massive
planet in our solar system -- with dozens of moons and an
enormous magnetic field -- forms a kind of miniature
solar system. Jupiter does resemble a star in
composition, but it did not grow big enough to ignite.
Saturn Adorned with thousands
of beautiful ringlets, Saturn is unique among the planets. All four gas
giant planets have rings -- made of chunks of ice and
rock -- but none are as spectacular or as
complicated as Saturn's. Like the other gas giants,
Saturn is mostly a massive ball of hydrogen
and helium.
Uranus
Uranus is the only giant planet whose equator is
nearly at right angles to its orbit. A collision with an Earth-sized object may
explain Uranus' unique tilt. Nearly a twin in size to Neptune, Uranus has more methane in its mainly hydrogen and
helium atmosphere than Jupiter or Saturn.
Methane gives Uranus its blue tint.
Neptune Dark, cold and whipped
by supersonic winds, Neptune is the last of the hydrogen and helium gas giants in our solar system. More than 30 times as far from the sun as Earth, the planet takes almost 165 Earth years to orbit our sun. In 2011 Neptune completed its first orbit
since its discovery in 1846
These planets are farthest from the sun
Earth’s Surface The moon Earth
Earth is the best planet in my opinion. It’s just so fascinating. Did you know 70% of earth is water. Which leaves 30% of earth to be land. A long time all of the continents were connected(Pangaea).
Earth has a lot of cool land features. Like this
he Earth's surface, there is much more freshwater stored in the ground than there is on the surface.
Earth’s Surface 2
Earth moves constantly. It spins on its axis, and it orbits the sun. Parts of Earth even move inside out constantly changing our planets surface. For billions of years , Earth has been remodeling itself.
Tectonic plates
Huge masses of rock rise from deep inside Earth, travel along its surface and then sink back down. The process is known as plate tectonics.
Mars’s SurfaceTHE SURFACE OF MARS
The southern hemisphere of Mars is quite heavily cratered and resembles the surface of our Moon. The surface is old and has been relatively unchanged for some time. The northern hemisphere is quite different. It has few craters and these appear far less eroded indicating they are much younger than those of the southern hemisphere. The northern hemisphere shows much geologic activity. The surface has been smoothed by repeated lava flows indicating a great deal of volcanic activity. There is also a lot of deformed uplifted crustal sections along with collapsed depressions.
Mars’s Surface 2.0 Martian volcanoes are the shield type like the Hawaiian islands on
Earth. In these types, the lava flows freely and the lava flow can cover a tremendous area. The largest volcano on Mars is Olympus Mons. This volcano is a massive structure, with a base 600Km (370 mi.) across and towering 25km (16 mi.) high. This dwarfs Mauna Loa in Hawaii, the largest volcano on Earth which is only 10 km (6 mi.) high and 225 km (140 mi.) in diameter. Mauna Loa is so heavy it has actually sunk into the Earth's crust and formed a moat around itself. Olympus Mons does not show any sign of sinking and leads to the conclusion that the Martian crust is much thicker than Earth's. The entire region around Olympus Mons appears to be an uplifted volcanic plain, called the Tharsis region. There is a similar uplifted region called Elysium region which appears to be older than the Tharsis region. The Elysium region is cratered and eroded and has probably not been active for about 1.5 billion years. The Tharsis region may have been active as recently as 0.2 billion years ago.

Curiosity
Curiosity is a car-sized robotic rover exploring Gale Crater on Mars as part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission (MSL).Curiosity was launched from Cape Canaveral on November 26, 2011 aboard the MSL spacecraft and successfully landed on Aeolis Palus in Gale Crater on Mars on August 6, 2012, 05:17 UTC. The Bradbury Landing site was less than 2.4 km (1.5 mi) from the center of the rover's touchdown target after a 563,000,000 km (350,000,000 mi) journey. The rover's goals include: investigation of the Martian climate and geology; assessment of whether the selected field site inside Gale Crater has ever offered environmental conditions favorable for microbial life, including investigation of the role of water; and planetary habitability studies in preparation for future human exploration
How Mars and Earth are alike?
-they both have at least 1 moon -they both have ice caps -both of there ice caps are melting
Differences Earth & Mars
- Earth has life on it - Earth has one moon
which are not rounded. - Earth has an atmosphere
V.S.
-Mars does not have life
-Mars has two moons
CONCLUSION There are eight planets, there use to be nine but now Pluto is a
dwarf planet now . Mars and Earth are alike in ways and different in ways.
Space is awesome!!!I think space is a cool fun and interesting to learn and
there is still more to find out. Mars, Earth, and all the other things I’ve mentioned barely get into the great endless wonders of space
GOODBYE!!!
