2015 Summer Edition Hats, Horses and Mint Juleps at the DSOL Wells Fargo Dallas Symphony Derby programs which include DSO on the GO, Community Concerts and Performances, Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concerts, Symphony Yes!, DSO Kids and the Young Strings. The Wells Fargo Dallas Symphony Derby brought the atmosphere of the famous Kentucky Derby to Dal- las, complete with hats, horses and mint juleps. It was held on April 19 at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie. This marks the 11th year the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League has partnered with title sponsor Wells Fargo and the 18th year it has part- nered with presenting sponsor Lone Star Park for an exciting event. Lee Bailey and Doris Jacobs served as Honorary Chairs. Court- ney Nall and Susan Walker were the Derby Co-Chairs and Dixie Starring the DSOL at Parties of Note The Dallas Symphony Orches- tra League held a Party of Note with Maestro Jaap van Zwe- den and concertmaster Alex- ander Kerr on April 20 at Bob’s Steak and Chop House at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The reception and dinner was limited to 50 people, making it an intimate evening for the guests. DSO President and CEO Jonathan Martin was in attendance and did a brief Q & A with Van Zweden. The Maestro shared with the guests how pieces are selected for the concert season and de- tails about the upcoming Solu- na Festival, a 3-week perform- ing and visual arts feast of local and international artists. The Q & A was followed by a musi- cal performance with two short pieces played by Concertmas- ter Kerr. On behalf of the board of the DSOL, I would like to welcome you to a new year filled with music, education, fun events and friendship. However, before we move on, I want to con-gratulate the 2014-2015 board, under the lead-ership of Dixie Marshall on an outstanding year of fund raising. Their success would not have been possible without the hard work, dedica-tion and financial support of our wonderful members – you all deserve a standing ovation!

Next, I want to brag on the 2015-2016 Executive board! I am so fortunate to be working with such talented leaders.

Otherwise, you might just be getting a call from me or one of the members of the Executive board inviting you to volunteer your time and talents! As we work this year to fulfill our mission of supporting the many Education and Outreach programs of the Dallas, I hope each of you will consider partici-pating in one (or all) of the fund raising, service and educational projects of-fered by the DSOL. There will be much more info to come regarding our fund raisers and educational opportunities. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your League President for 2015-2016 and as always, thank you for your sup-port of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League!

New Member Orientation and Luncheon, FridaySeptember 18 New Members will be invited to join the DSOL Executive Board for an orientation champagne reception and luncheon on Fri-day, September 18 at the Mey-erson Symphony Center. Invita-tions will be mailed for this event.

New members will be given a tour of the Meyerson Sympho-ny Centar after the luncheon. Chair of this event is Sarah Hardin. Please contact Sarah if you have questions, [email protected]

The President’s Message DSOL Encore Luncheon The DSOL Encore Luncheon was held at the Crescent Club on May 13. 2-14 -2015 President Dixie Marshall welcomed Melissa Lew-is, the 2015 - 2016 President and her board. Carole Ann Brown was Chair of this event. Musi-cal entertainment was provided by Aakash Patel. He is a gradu-ate of the Young Strings program.

Debutantes for the 30th Annual Presentation Ball Announced The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League introduced the 2015-16 Debutantes during Announce-ment Weekend festivities May 29 – May 31. The weekend marked the official start of a series of events culminating with the 30th Presentation Ball, which will be held February 20, 2016. The Weekend included an announce-ment party at Neiman Marcus on Friday, May 29, and a reception and fashion show on Saturday, May 30, also at Neiman Marcus. Designer Patti Flowers hosted a reception on Sunday, May 31 at her studio. The Presentation Ball Chair is Nancy Labadie and DSOL President is Melissa Lew-is.
