Round 2 · Report

A Grade

On a cool Wednesday evening, the rampaging Roadies

clinched a thrilling match against ladder leaders Darwin

Chinese Recreation Club, 6-5, in a top-of-the-table

contest. Solid playmaker Viqar Ali Khan was the

deciding factor for the Roadies, winning three singles,

including a sensational contest and upset over TY Lee,

4-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-5, 12-10. Viqar also had to work

hard to fend off father-and-son duo Kelvin and

Brodrick On, both in five-set rubbers. Dennis Evans

claimed the tie for his undefeated side in the decider,

beating Kelvin after coming back from two-sets-to-one

down, 9-11, 11-5, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8.

Jets came crashing to earth after being smashed by a

rebounding Marrara Mozzies team, led by the veteran

Elfrida Kalich. She finished with three singles wins,

while assisting in both crucial doubles victories.

Maricor Sarceda got on the singles board with a couple

of wins of her own, while Jets player Brandon Porter

had to recover (after his bat broke) to defeat Mozzies

substitute Junfei Chen, 4-11, 14-12, 4-11, 11-8, 13-11,

in a see-sawing challenge.

Crocodiles got their first match win for the season,

outclassing the Power, 7-4. Mitchell Bedford won

three singles, while his old man Gavin Bedford needed

five sets to triumph over Rick Gibson in a nail-biting

clash, 7-11, 19-17, 11-3, 8-11, 11-9.

Finally, Vikings shot up to the top of the ladder after

accounting for a weakened Champions line-up, 7-4.

Rodney Hee was too good in the singles, while Gavin

Gerschwitz stepped up to take out Russell Holden and

Champions substitute John Langdon in clinical fashion.

B Grade

CDU and Champions opened their account with narrow

victories over the Crocs and Vikings respectively.

Medicins Sans Revers remained the only undefeated

side after a 6-5 win over round one winner DCRC.

In the rubber of the round, Parg Edmondson (CDU)

edged Kassim Wright (Crocs) in an entertaining

contest, 11-8, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6. In another riveting

rubber, C Grade’s Dev Sapkota (Vikings substitute)

shocked Aaron Dunn (Champions), 13-11, 11-9, 8-11,

5-11 , 11-6.

Junfei (CDU) has established a lead on the individual

ladder, finishing undefeated for a consecutive week

after brushing aside the Crocs.

C Grade

On Tuesday, Champions got their first win on the board

while the Crocs and Roadies ended round two without

a loss to their name.

The rubber of the round went to Mozzies front man

Graeme Perkins’ comeback against Dallas Graetz

(Roadies), the only five-set rubber from all of the

matches, 13-15, 9-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-6.

Arion Magioli (DCRC) debuted in the competition with

a singles victory, while Dev (DCRC) and Matt Schobben

(Champions) have yet to taste defeat in the singles.

Arafura Games Break

This is a gentle reminder that the Arafura Games are

coming and that the club will halt the regular

competition after round three (next week) for a

fortnight. The competition will resume on the week

starting 6th May. Below is a timeline:
