Hi Folks.

We're announcing our super exciting spring season with this newsletter. We just added twenty newshows. Check it all out as there are numerous "Don't Miss" concerts coming.

It all starts this week. On Thursday, come here trumpeter DuaneEubanks, brother of Kevin Eubank (Jay Leno Tonight Show). The Eubanksfamily is quite prolific. Duane will be accompanied by Keigo Hirakawaon piano, who has played previously at Nighttown and knocked us out.

Then on Saturday, Allison Shapira & Kipyn Martin bring us a fantastictribute concert to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell..

Then get ready for the following week when Freddy Cole comes back to Nighttown. "Don't Miss!!"

Nighttown Tickets and Seating Policy

To purchase tickets click here, Do not make anadditional table reservation - it is already included withyour purchased tickets. All seats are General Admission. All seating is based on the time that you arrive for theshow and based on how many people are in your partyand where we have tables of that size. You may besharing a table with other people.

Nighttown Student Discount PolicyStudents up to age 26 are 1/2 off the regular price. Student priced tickets are only available the night of theshow, are available only at the door, and are subject toavailability. Students must have a photo ID from agenerally-recognized high school, college or university. Full-paying ticket holders get priority on admission andseating. Certain select shows have no discount based onarrangements with the artist. On evenings when thereare two shows (i.e. shows at 7 & 9PM), the discount isonly good for the second show. Students under the age of18 must be accompanied by an adult paying full price inorder to be eligible for the discount.

Dynamic NYC trumpeter Duane Eubanks teams up with All-StarTrio from Dayton Ohio for a great night at Nighttown!

Featuring: Duane Eubanks-trumpet, Keigo Hirakawa-piano, EddieBrookshire-acoustic bass, & Fenton Sparks-drums.Philadelphia native and trumpeter, Duane Eubanks has performed everywherefrom the Hollywood Bowl to Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center, in addition totouring throughout Europe and Japan. He is a member of Dave Holland’s two timeGrammy Award winning big band and the late Mulgrew Miller's band, Wingspan.

Duane was born into a family of musically gifted talent. His mother, pianist VeraEubanks was Kenny Barron’s first piano teacher and a professional church pianist; his brothers, renowned trombonist, Robin Eubanks and guitarist, Kevin Eubanks,former bandleader of the “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”; as well as his uncle,legendary pianist Ray Bryant all contributed to his early music education.

Duane started playing trumpet for the first time at age eleven, but didn’t considermusic as a career until college. While studying for a Business Administrationdegree at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Duane joined the university’sjazz band, which afforded him opportunities to play with jazz luminaries such asStanley Turrentine, Shirley Scott, Charles Fambrough and Clark Terry.

After graduating from college, Duane studied jazz at Temple University. Heperformed admirably in master classes with Dr. Billy Taylor and Wynton Marsalis. The years of study and continual encouragement from Robin and Kevin motivatedDuane to take on his ultimate challenge. In 1996, he moved to New York to pursuea career as a professional musician.

Duane caught the attention of French producer Aleardo G. Buzzi while sitting in withRobin at Bradley’s in New York. Aleardo recorded Robin’s 1998 TCB Recordsrelease 4:JJ/Slide, Curtis & Al on which Duane played trumpet. Duane’s inspiredplaying left a lasting impression on Aleardo, which resulted in a proposal to recordhis first album as leader for TCB Records. The outcome was his critically acclaimeddebut, My Shining Hour released in 1999, followed by Second Take in 2001.

Duane has worked with saxophonists Bootsie Barnes, Jeff King, J.D. Allen, BillMcHenry, and Antonio Hart; drummers Louis Hayes, Jeff Williams, and Elvin Jones;trumpeters Tom Harrell, Randy Brecker, and Nicholas Payton; bassists Eric Revis,Dave Holland, and Avery Sharpe; pianists Mulgrew Miller, John Hicks and JasonLindner, and trombonists Robin Eubanks and Curtis Fuller, among others.

Keigo Hirakawa can be heard throughout the USA and internationally. He hasappeared on stage alongside Donald Byrd, JD Allen, Bob Moses. Trained in NewYork City and at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, he was a student ofmany world renowned jazz artists, including Danilo Perez, Stephen Scott, HaroldDanko, Alan Pasqua, Ran Blake, Cecil McBee, Ralph Peterson, Jerry Bergonzi,Donald Byrd, John McNeil, George Garzone, Bob Moses, Walt Weiskopf, and OscarStagnaro. He is a passionate clinician and educator, on faculty at the University of

Singer/Songwriters Allison Shapira From Boston, and KipynMartin from Washington D.C. pay tribute to Folk Music LegendsJoan Baez & Joni Mitchell live at Nighttown!Joan & Joni is a tribute to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell performed bysinger/songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin. In a musical journey from the60s to today, Allison and Kipyn demonstrate the effect Joan and Joni have had ontheir own musical development as modern musicians. Kipyn Martin is an award-winning Americana singer/songwriter whose roots sink into the banks of theShenandoah River. Allison Shapira is a recovering opera singer who recently foundher authentic voice as a folksinger and songwriter. In March 2016, Allison and Kipynwere each nominated by the Washington Area Music Association Awards(WAMMIES) for best contemporary folk vocalist and Kipyn was nominated forsongwriter of the year. Kipyn and Allison met during the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA)conference in November 2013. Both classically trained singers and up-and-comingmusicians in the DC-area folk scene, they soon realized their musical influenceswere similarly shaped by the folk revival music of the '60s. Soon, Joan & Joni wasborn.

Allison and Kipyn's power comes from their authenticity as performers; they touchpeople not just through their music but also through their passion and drive toinspire and connect with their audience. They perform a collection of timelesssongs by Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell and reveal a few hidden gems from Joan andJoni's respective albums.

By weaving Joan Baez & Joni Mitchell's themes together with their own individualmessages, Allison and Kipyn place an important part of American history in amodern context.

Kipyn Martin is an emerging Americana singer/songwriter whose roots sink intothe banks of the Shenandoah River. According to folk legend John Gorka, Kipyn is "abeauty of a singer." She currently enjoys playing festival stages, as well asdelighting audiences at vineyards, coffeehouses, and house concerts.

Allison Shapira is an internationally acclaimed singer who has performed foraudiences in South Africa, Japan, Argentina, Israel, Rwanda, and around the UnitedStates.

Allison studied classical voice at Boston University, Tanglewood, and in Italy, but athome she listened to the folk revival music of Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and JudyCollins. She left the field of opera to pursue more global issues, but even afterattaining a masters degree in public administration from the Harvard KennedySchool, folk music never left Allison’s mind.

Legendary Vocalist, Pianist, and Nat's Brother with his Grammy NominatedQuartet!

Freddy Cole, the legacy of his brother Nat Cole, will stir up memories that will neverbe forgotten. Now in his 50th year of performing, this great singer and pianist hasdeveloped a huge following of his own. The instantly recognizable Cole voice and aveteran quartet, play the classics as well as new compositions and interpretationsfrom a huge repertoire.

Lionel Frederick Cole was the youngest of five children. His three elder brothers,Eddie, Ike and Nat (12 years Freddy’s senior) were all musicians. “Music was allaround me.” In the Chicago home of his youth, visitors included Duke Ellington,Count Basie and Lionel Hampton. Cole moved to New York in 1951, where hestudied at the Juillard School of Music and found himself profoundly influenced byJohn Lewis, Oscar Peterson and Teddy Wilson. He received a master’s degree fromthe New England Conservatory of Music and then spent several months on the roadas a member of an Earl Bostic band that also included Johnny Coles and BennyGolson.

It was back in New York that Cole successfully laid the groundwork for a career thatcontinues to flourish to this day. Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like hisbrother, Nat Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities. He plays piano andsings, and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice israspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the awesome shadow castby his elder brother. His vocals – suave, elegant, formidable and articulate - areamong the most respected in jazz.

Both Alec and John were born and raised in Ireland in counties Dublin and Down wherethey learned to play music at an early age, they have both performed professionally sincetheir teenage years both enjoying considerable success with their respective careers.

John Delaney a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Irish group 'Barleycorn',joined forces with Alec DeGabriele nine years ago to form 'The New Barleycorn', after theother finished a 24 year run ending in 1995. John plays, 5 string and tenor banjos,mandolin, guitar, whistle and bodhran. He also has played banjo on many other Irishartists' recordings.

Alec DeGabriele spent his formative years learning the business of music, theatre andentertaining with his families traveling theatrical show, 'The Shannon Players', which waswell known and highly regarded throughout Ireland. Alec plays guitar and bass and wasthe band leader with a top Irish Show Band for some years before deciding to come to livein the U.S.A.

Diego Figueiredo (pronounced fig-a-ray-doe) is considered one of the most talentedguitar players in the world today. Diego hasreleased over nineteen albums to date, three DVD’s, and several instructionalbooks. His music is a fusion between Jazz, Bossa Nova and Classical. Diego Figueiredo was born in Franca, Brazil in 1980. At the age of four he used tostrike poses carrying his small guitar. At six, he received a mandolin, which waskept in a very special place in his house. Diego played many instruments beforechoosing the electric guitar when he was twelve. By the age of fifteen, he wasplaying theaters and nightclubs throughout Brazil, playing both solo and with manyrenowned Brazilian musicians.

Most recently he accompanies the singer and songwriter Belchior in tours aroundBrazil and abroad, as well as with the French phenom Cyrille Aimée. He has playedand shared the stage with Hermeto Pascoal, Larry Coryell, Geraldo Azevedo,Sebastião Tapajós, Demônios da Garoa, Vanusa, Renato Borghetti, OsvaldoMontenegro, Jair Rodrigues, Elomar, Toquinho, Tunai, Paulinho da Viola, NandoCordel, Moraes Moreira, Fafá de Belém, Amelinha, Los Hermanos, Zeca Baleiro,Miyazawa and others.

Lyricist/jazz vocalist Lorraine Feather was born in New York, the daughter of jazzwriter Leonard Feather and goddaughter of Billie Holiday. Lorraine started hercareer as an actress in New York, transitioned into singing, and realized that lyricwriting was her greatest gift. She has had songs recorded by numerous artistsincluding Patti Austin, Diane Schuur and Cleo Laine, and has earned seven Emmynominations as a lyricist. Since 2001 she has focused on recording solo jazzalbums, first featuring the music of Fats Waller and Duke Ellington with her addedwords, then all-original material written with living composer collaborators.Lorraine’s Ages release was a 2011 Grammy nominee for Best Jazz Vocal Album;her newest solo CD, Tales of the Unusual, was a 2013 Grammy nominee in the BestInstrumental Arrangement accompanying Vocalist(s) category. DownBeat hascalled Lorraine “enchanting and exceptional” and All Music Guide has describedher as “one of the most creative lyricists of her generation.”

St. Louis-born Stephanie Trick is a traditional jazz pianist and recording artist who“has come to practically dominate the stride piano field” (Jack Rummel, RagtimeMusic Reviews). Louis Mazetier, a noted interpreter of this physically and technicallydemanding style of jazz piano from the twenties and thirties, writes in the Bulletin ofthe Hot Club of France that she has “won the esteem of specialists in the genre withwonderful interpretations of stride classics, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and DonLambert (which she learned by ear).” He continues, “She plays these pieces with apunch that is matched by her precise interpretation.” A classically trained pianist,Stephanie began playing piano at the age of five. In high school, she discovered herfirst true passion – stride piano. She was awarded the New Talent Prize by the HotClub of France in 2011.

In May 2010, Lorraine discovered Stephanie through the recommendation of amusician fan who had become aware of the young pianist’s online performancevideos. The two became mutual long-distance fans, arranged a meeting inCalifornia to try out some material together, and decided to create Nouveau Stride,meeting over the course of two years whenever their schedules allowed goingthrough material that Lorraine might lyricize. The result is Fourteen, which includesmusic by James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, and living composers in thestride/ragtime genre. Jazz Times calls the reinvented classics “deliciously clever …wonderfully witty,” and the San Diego Reader praised Nouveau Stride’s recentmulti-media show at the San Diego Jazz Festival as “a contemporary ‘duo-summit’… a glorious tour-de-force.”

Rising Trumpet Star leads All-Star Group live at Nighttown!

Dominick Farinacci recently released his Mack Avenue Records debut, "ShortStories" -- a compelling suite of music with a repertoire that spans genres andgenerations united by the trumpeter/composer's soulful conception. Bringingtogether songs from Tom Waits, Horace Silver, Dianne Reeves and the Gipsy Kingsas well as original compositions, Farinacci has managed to create his own musicaluniverse, aided by musicians of the highest caliber. All of the songs have anarrative that any listener can relate to.

Farinacci had already achieved enough stature by his mid-teens that WyntonMarsalis offered to help him set his sights on coming to New York, and by 2001,Farinacci was one of only four trumpeters in the world to be selected as theinaugural students in The Juilliard School's first jazz curriculum.

Life itself has many different sorts of mentorship built into it. A life in the arts can'texist without these kinds of relationships, and Short Stories is the fruit of the comingtogether of two kindred spirits, Farinacci and LiPuma, from the same home town(Cleveland, Ohio), separated by just under half a century in age. What unites themis a clear, moern aesthetic vision that combines the highest musical standards witha desire to be agents of change.

Amazingly, Farinacci found time during his Middle East years to also play anintegral role in the conception and build out of Cuyahoga Community College'sTommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts.

As this album sinks into your consciousness, you will undoubtedly come to theconclusion that Dominick Farinacci is not only one of the truly outstanding

Christian Tamburr is an internationallyrenowned vibraphonist and pianist with touringand performances in over 65 countries aroundthe world. Downbeat Magazine recognized himwith the “Outstanding Solo Jazz Performer”award and the “Critics Choice Top Rising Star”award on vibraphone. It has received rave reviewsacross the board, making it Kinky’s best and most popular release ever. Yes, theKinkster has been resurrected.

The Resurrected Tour tour starts in mid-April and will continue to the middle ofMay. Kinky will be performing with his uber sideman, Joe Cirotti. Kinky’s cdproducer, Brian Molnar will be opening the show. Key to Jordan’s fast-track acclaim was his mastery of a special technique on theguitar’s fretboard. Theycurrently live in Manhattan, and tour constantly.

The compositions "Pictures" and "The Traveler" were commissioned by Jazz fromLincoln Center for its 2014-15 New Jazz Standards series. Blue Whisper is Figarova'ssecond album, after Twelve, on In + Out Records, an independent label based inFreiberg, Germany.
