Introduction

Have you ever gone to a wave pool at an amusement park? You can hear the laughter and screams as wave after wave passes by, giving the people a wild ride. Have you ever been to the ocean and watched as people surfed the waves? This is an introduction to the wonderful world of waves!

Task 1• You will have 3 tasks to complete as a group into PowerPoint• 1. Create a fake twitter page for each of the 3 types of mechanical waves. The

bio should tell a little about the wave in general. The tweets should give a little information about the wave but translated into real life.• Ex. Transverse waves tweet: I came across a blanket today when a couple was trying to

shake the crumbs off after a picnic.• Ex. Longitudinal waves tweet: Me and an earthworm crossed the driveway today. It’s like

we’re joined at the hip.• Ex. Surface waves tweet: Hanging out at the beach today!

• The keywords crest, trough, compression, and rarefaction must be “tweeted”• Must have at least 5 tweets. Do NOT just list facts. Relate to real life.• There is a sample layout of the fake twitter page on the next slide

Task 2- How Often?

• Each individual is given problems dealing with frequency, wavelength, and wave speed• Task is due at time of submission of project.

Task 3- First 48

• Just like you, waves have behavior and there are 5 notorious behaviors! Your 3rd task is to profile these criminals!• 5 Criminals: Reflection, Refraction, Diffraction, Interference, and Standing

Waves• Profile includes:

• Picture or example• Description of the typical behavior so we can be on the lookout!

• At least 3 descriptions of each
