So here we are the first edition of DUKE magazine the magazine that has been created for that certain gentleman who wants to have fun with fashion, an inquisitive, stylish man. Duke is here to offer you the reader an insight into elegant vibrant trends that have seen the world of men fashion expand. Duke is a contemporary, artistic magazine that aims to inspire people with their fashion choices and everyday life! Duke is full of Fashion, Style and culture providing the reader with attention-grabbing articles.

With this being the first edition of DUKE and it being released within a culture of people cutting back on spending, we are here to help you get around the high costs of fashion within this first issue talking about charity shop shopping and creating an imaginative and unique look, I got this idea when I had Just been putting some clothes that I don’t want any more there was also some of my parents, so I was putting things into a charity bag for OXFAM and I came across this blazer that had been placed neatly folded at the bottom, a navy blue military blazer with gold buttons. It didn’t really seem like anything someone in my family would wear but I ask my mum and its turns out this jacket is my dad’s, something he had been given as a gift an unwanted gift, but anyway enough with the story, this got me thinking about if he’s willing to give a nice jacket like that to charity what else are people giving away. So this give me an idea to see what I could find in charity shops throughout Newcastle and hear at DUKE we decided to show you what we found, hopefully inspiring you to have a look in your local charity shop.

Also within this issue we are taking an old traditional and reviving it, we hear at DUKE are commented to showing you how things can be transformed into something unique and stylish. DUKE were lucky to have worked with such amazing people on this first issue each brought something new to the table and have set this magazine with a future and amaz-ing things to come, we also want to hear what you have to say about fashions and lifestyle and with the introduce of DUKE.com and DUKE BLOG your opinion on articles will be heard, upload you style advice and you could appear in the magazine in the future.

REFLEXING YOU

Get charity shopping

Desire eccentric, innovative clothing without forking out a fortune?

Page 22: DUKE

Awaking each morning to the same normal mundane routine and the same

uninspiring wardrobe can really put a damper on life.

Craving something that will reflex your personality?

Page 24: DUKE

During these times when cash is low and costs are high, consider charity shops. Yes, they may seem doubting and unattractive, but keep an open mind and see past the mothballs and string vests, which is an unfair conclusion most of us put upon our local charity shops. Having the creative flair to pull those outfits together can result in something amazing and unique. However scanning racks upon racks of granddad jumpers and eighties tees isn’t such a fine talent it’s just something that needs to be done!

You may not always find something in eve-ry charity shop; it can be hit and miss but drive through this, keeping looking. Go to a charity shop in quite a wealthy area because of the better quality clothes there. And once you’ve found those items you’ll be onto a gold mine of clothing with personality.

Look for those1980s and 1990s linen-mix jackets, wools and denims. They work well with high street fashions and can be mixed with tailored pieces, even if you find something you like and it’s not your size it’s easy enough to adjust a blazer or trouser with the knowhow, or just find you local tailoring service, what you may spend here may add up to the same cost of the high street prices sometimes but you’re getting a one off, made just for you!

Shop in season reverse summer in winter, winter in summer people generally donated their unwanted winter clothing in the summer so picking up a great winter jacket at a great prices is a must and if your free at the beginning of the week try getting around the shops, people can often been seen dropping their bags full of clothes and nic naks outside of their local charity shop on a Sundays.

But we hear at DUKE magazine, we didn’t want to ramble on about it we wanted to get on with it and just

show you what can be done.

Everything that is in this fashion shoot is bought and altered for our model Johnny, this is what we pulled together from our local charity shops in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne, looking down those side lanes and places just outside the city centre really did result in some fantastic finds!

*TUX

Sometimes disapprovingly called the penguin suit, those with any disrespect for this wonderful creation should think again. As a result of the tuxedo, a gentleman attending a formal gathering never has to put an ounce of thought into what he will wear. The tuxedo is one of many reasons why it is great to be a man. And with winter well and truly here the night’s drawing in the darkness descends, but it’s not all in doom and gloom, it’s time for the formal occasion invites to start flooding in, well your work do, at the least.

The first designs of the tuxedo date back to Victorian Britain, created for royalty and London’s high socially, this English style and tailoring enjoys worldwide praise, and rightly so. The then new tailless formal wear was said to have been designed for the Prince of Wales, his tailor drew inspiration from the British military uniforms of the time, which used short jackets with black ties. The tuxedo is as British as James Bond, James Bond’s style, charm and undercover skills have a place in hearts of many, whether we favour classic Sean Connery, Roger Moore, or Casino Royale newcomer Daniel Craig. The tuxedo has featured on all bond actors at some point and throughout the decades that Bond has been on our film screen. Refined, handsome, and stylish, James Bond is the quintessential an English gentleman.

The traditional Tuxedo, if you have never encountered one before is truly scary, you will have to familiarize yourself with all its components. DUKE is here to show you the 2011 Black tie look, with its mix of traditional and modern cuts. Ultimately, while, there is no alternative than becoming your own black-tie expert, learning the foundations of the tuxedo and what suits you best. Draw inspiration from celebrity or current trends this will give you great help in choosing the perfect black tie wear!

“The actors may have changed but the tuxedo has remained an icon

in itself!”

The Jacket, normally black but this isn’t set in stone, reflex your personality, The jacket should either have a one-button single breasted, or 4 button 2 fastening double breasted front, with satin covered lapels, the rest of the detailing is your choice, for example a handkerchief in your top pocket or even a modern twist of embellishment. But if you’re going for the James bond look use basic colours and simple lines these will always do the trick. Your jacket is a perfect Bond staple and will never go out of style.

“If you are looking for a Jacket with an updated appeal,

find one with understated buttons and details.”

The crisp white shirt, complete with double cuffs and a wing collar, a style that can be quite flexible. Shirts are an unquestionable essential for any gent; fashion forward people have been seen wearing the wing collar shirt with leather jackets and jeans this season, from quirky pattern printed bow ties to the black silk classic each are bang on trend for 2011 and can been seen on such celebrities asDavid Beckham and on the catwalks of London. Try this yourself.

The regular black trousers with a satin side seam will be adequate, but tailoring has been revived in recent years so DUKE recommends trying a skinny or carrot fit trouser, find theperfect cut that suits you, look at all styles and cuts. The tuxedo is your essential evening wear, so if you haven’t found the right one, now’s the time. Wear your tux with either peaked lapels for a highly formal look or with notched lapels like James Bond’s own choice in Casino Royale.

Page 45: DUKE

When choosing your formal wear, don’t forget a classic James Bond essential, the cummerbund or add your own modern twist, braces, so it doesn't really come as a surprise that this fashion trend will be established in menswear in 2011 and 2012, this trend emerges from the death of the dress code but don’t forget to use key elements of this inspired look.
