IMPORTANT DATES FOR SEPTEMBER
A Note from the PTSA President
Dear Students, Guardians, Parents, Staff, and Faculty: Welcome to the new school year! I hope summer
has been good to you and your family.
Your PTSA Board has been meeting over the summer, and we're excited about our plans for this year. Join
us when you can! Volunteering with the PTSA is fun and very flexible, and we can always use new folks and
new ideas. Here are some of the things we're looking forward to this year:
Offering Dulaney Spirit Wear! We'll have some at Back to School Night, and an online sale will follow soon
after.
Hosting more hospitality events for Dulaney's wonderful faculty and staff. They do so much, and put up with
so much, from hot classrooms to brown water to grumpy teenagers; we love being able to organize lunches
for them.
Continuing to work with Friends of Dulaney to advocate for a new building and fields for Dulaney, and for oth-
er interim facility improvements.
Expanding Dulaney's Closet of Support, which this year will be offering full back-to-school backpacks as well
as an expanded selection of other supplies for students in need. Need a backpack? Deodorant? A
pen? Head to the office and they will direct you. No forms to fill out. If you say you need it, we believe you.
Seeking continued grant support for substance abuse prevention efforts.
Bringing Sandy Hook Promise programs to Dulaney - we need help to do this though! Please check out this
link and let us know if you may be interested.
Sandy Hook Promise
Finding someone - maybe you? - to serve as Dulaney's coordinator for Youth Mental Health Matters Week in
the spring. This is a great Maryland program, and school coordinators, called "Champions", are needed. For
more information, check out this link:
https://www.childrensmentalhealthmatters.org/school-champions/
Working with our new partner, The Answer Class, to offer SAT prep classes at Dulaney. As with Elite Driving
School, our first and longtime generous partner, the PTSA receives a portion of the registration fees. The first
class is at Dulaney on Sept. 22; here's the link for more information:
Dulaney High School SAT400 - The Answer Class
As always, we need you! Donations to Lions Share, our one-time direct-donation program, are especially im-
portant and appreciated. Please give as generously as you can. Click this link to join, donate, and volunteer:
Donation Page 2018-2019
We're happy to accept checks as well; you can find our membership forms and envelopes at Back to School
Night, or in the packet students should have received from homeroom teachers on the first day of
school. And please come see what we're all about. We meet monthly on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the
Dulaney library. All are always welcome! Our first meeting is September 26.
Thank you for all you do to make Dulaney a great school community.
Warm regards,
Sue Battle-McDonald
PTSA President
A Note from the Editor
Hello DHS Family,
Here we are again! School is starting and we at the PTSA have a lot
planned for this year. Our wonderful President Sue Battle-McDonald has
provided a lot of information in her letter, but I want to make sure you
know that we are all volunteers and we need your help! Even for a cou-
ple hours, we can use as many hands as we can have to make DHS a bet-
ter place. So please join us! (Plus you get to know stuff beforehand!)
It’s my personal goal this year to reach out to the Spanish speaking par-
ents and guardians of DHS students. I would like to ask you to share the
news you read in this newsletter with those that may not be able to. And
if they need some extra hand, please tell them to contact me.
Do not forget to donate, sign up for volunteering and share with us your
concerns and questions. We are here to help.
Last but not least, welcome back teachers and students. Hoping your first
month is full of learning and accomplishments.
Cheers!

Closet of Support
DHS now has a “Closet of Support” filled with most needed items
that are free for our students in need.
The “Closet” is fully stocked with backpacks. They have binders,
notebooks, paper, dividers, fully stocked pencil cases, rulers, fold-
ers, alarm clocks with batteries, and lunch boxes. Students can see
any teacher to be referred to the closet of support or they can go to the
office to be taken there. We also have toiletries and extra school sup-
plies.
PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION TO ALL STUDENTS AS
THEY MAY KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT.
Donations of the following items are always accepted. Please only
donate NEW items, label it “Closet of Support” and drop at the
school office. Travel sizes accepted and welcomed.
Toiletries (body wash, floss, men’s deodorant. women’s deodorant,
shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, tampons, lip
balms, lotions, hair brushes, combs, etc.)
Gift Cards for Hair Cuttery and Food Lion.
Thank you for supporting our community!
The Dulaney High Chamber Choir performed the
National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles
on August 29th at Camden Yards!
What a great way to start the year!
WANTED
SGO is looking for parent chaperones for the upcoming Homecoming
dance. This is the LARGEST dance of the school year with 1000 tickets
sold. Parents will be placed at the coat (shoes, purse, bag) check, water ta-
ble, or snacks table. They will NOT have to be inside the loud and hot
gymnasium. The more parents there are the easier it can be for all in-
volved.
The dance is Saturday September 15th 7-10 pm. All chaperones would re-
port at 6:30 pm. Please email the SGO advisors Stacy Reynolds sreyn-
[email protected] or Victoria Bracken [email protected] if you are interest-
ed in helping out. Be sure to include what station you would like to be a
part of.
ARE YOU A GARDENER? A DECORATOR? DO YOU LIKE TO MAKE THINGS LOOK PRETTY?
The PTSA is also looking for a new Beautification Committee Chairper-son for the 2018-2019 school year. Our amazing chair Angela is willing to help the person transition into the position. Any interest? Please email Angela for questions/interest:
