About Duolingo Tutorial

Duolingo is a free language-learning website and crowdsourced text translation platform. The service is designed so that, as users progress through the lessons, they simultaneously help to translate websites and other documents. As of July 2013, the site offers Spanish (Latin American), French, German, Portuguese, (Brazilian), and Italian courses for English speakers, as well as English (American) for Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian speakers.


• Choose your path: Basic or Advanced

• Beginners start at Basic 1

• Advanced learners take a placement test


• Beginning 1 allows the learner to select the image that matches the word.


• After you choose the correct answer, the learner can check it, then continue.


• If an incorrect answer is chosen, the program will inform the learner of the error. The correct answer is then shown.


• The learner is asked to give the Spanish translation for images presented.


• There is a lesson that allows the learner to translate Spanish words into English.


• The learner is asked to listen and type in Spanish.

• Note: The vowels and accent letters are given.

• The program will inform the learner if they are correct or incorrect. If the answer is incorrect, the correct answer will be given.


• This portion of the lesson allows the learner to record themselves pronouncing the words in Spanish.

• The learner is recorded pronouncing the words in Spanish.


• The learner can listen to the recording.

• If it is correct, the learner can continue.


• At whatever point you stop, it shows how far until the next level.


• Shows the words that you’ve mastered during the lesson.


• Shows your strength, and allows you to compete with friends.
