From The Holster’s Side

Second Baptist Church MISSION AND VISION

Section I. Mission Our mission is to fulfill the Great Commandment (Mark 12:30-31)

and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) to our church, community and the world. Section 2. Vision

Our vision is for every person to find their full potential in Jesus Christ and to give their full potential for Jesus Christ through witnessing,

teaching and ministering to all.

BIBLE STUDY . . . A PLACE FOR EVERYONE “A Study in Psalms” — “How to Love Like Christ” — “Sharing the Gospel” — “A Wonderful Encourager” — “How God Uses Imperfect People”. These are just a few of the studies that we will be sharing during our weekly Bible Study time through the summer months. Hopefully you are a regular attender each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. as we meet for study and fellowship. If not, please join with us as often as you can this summer. We look forward to our time together. PraiSing CHOIR SCHEDULE Just a quick reminder to our PraiSing Choir of the rehearsal time during the summer months. Beginning on Wednesday, May 31st, we will be meeting from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday evening. We will have our practice, followed by a time of prayer together. If you happen to NOT BE A CHOIR MEMBER (what a terrible thought!) we would invite and encourage you to come and join with us as we prepare to lead our worship service each Sunday. COME JOIN! WE NEED YOU!! A NOTE OF THANKS This is just to say THANK YOU SOOO MUCH to the Glory Belles Handbell Choir Ladies for a wonderful year of ringing, worship, and fellowship. Six worship services, a special program at the nursing home, a participation in the spring community service kept you quite busy, and you did a wonderful job each and every time. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to: Shirley Baccus, Rhonda Bradley, Sharon Downs, Selena Dirickson, Jody Drennan, Annette Goodman, Becky Kilby, Carmin McWilliams, Barbara Overman, Helen Rankin, and Christy Vigil. Also, thanks bunches to Mike and Kathy Holster for filling in as needed throughout the year. What a great group of talented and faithful musicians you are!! I am already looking forward to starting another year of worship and fellowship with you in September! FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE GETTING OLDER Forget the health food! I need all the preservatives I can get!!

Bring your Bible and a friend, and I’ll see you Sunday! Jon-Roy

Vacation Bible School . . . IT IS HERE! It is always a blessing to see and hear children in the building. It is great to know we have teachers who will be helping each student hear and learn about “Searching the Visible, Discovering the Invisible.” (VBS Motto) The Teachers and Workers are listed in this newsletter. If you are not here for VBS, at least PRAY for us, and if you choose to do so, please send a card of appreciation to those who are. GALACTIC STARVEYORS is the theme for VBS 2017. We will be learning how (1) God created everything and wants a relationship with us, (2) sin messed everything up, but God is still in control, (3) God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world, (4) Jesus gave His life to be MY SAVIOR, (5) and even though I mess up, God still loves me and will never leave me. I am excited Grace Tidwell is with us for the summer. She, along with Wayne Beadles and Melissa De La Cruz, will be with some of our students who will attend SUPER SUMMER 2017 at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. Please pray for Noah Ashford, Zachary Ashford, Seth Bailey, Jacob Beadles, Stephanie De La Cruz, and Marissa Martin as they attend. In our last Business Conference, Joe Bob Dycus challenged us to be a part of a MEMBERSHIP TEAM. This team sounds a lot like Each One Reach One. To be a part of this team means each member of Second Baptist Church would be active in inviting one person (or more) to join them at Second Baptist Church. While visiting with these people, take time to “share your story” of how you came to know Jesus Christ. We should never be comfortable where we are in our service to the Lord. We should be ACTIVE in GOING, TELLING, and INVITING. Thank you for allowing Brian Haralson and me to attend the SEND Conference. This was sponsored by the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board. There was a lot of information given during the 2 day event. If there is one thing I learned, it would be EVERY BELIEVER SHOULD BE ACTIVE IN TELLING OTHERS ABOUT JESUS. It is true not every person is called to preach, teach, or administer, but we are all called to GO AND TELL. This could be around your street or around the world. The mission is still the same. We also visited with Bill and Jan Smith. They are appreciative of the help given to them and to New Creation Fellowship in Chelsea, VT. There is much to be done. Thank you for supporting them. FINALLY . . . To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. Martin Luther King

From your Shepherd’s heart, Michael Holster
