DMB Dynamic Motor Brakes

PT Tech presents our newest productin braking solutions to the global marketplace: Our DMB line of DYNAMIC Motor Brakes.

Our spring-applied, electrical-release DMB Brakes are not a commodity product. We have designed this product to excel in moderate to extreme duty applications, where compromise is unacceptable and only the best is good enough.

The DMB Brake is designed using the latest 3D modeling and FEA analysis. In addition, the units are tested under extreme conditions. The brakes torque can be validated pre-shipment if OEM specified.

Where productivity, profitability, and safety are paramount, DMB will become the global standard.

How are DMB brakes different?

As an extra value-added service to our customers, PT Tech will validate and certify individual brake torque prior to shipment, per OEM request.

This will verify that the units are performing per published ratings.

The DMB Brake will handle extreme thermal conditions without fade.

DMB Brakes are manufactured with a proving switch, allowing the OEM to monitor brake status.

DMB Brakes are equipped with wear indicators, mounted behind brass sight glasses, for easy accessibility.

The DMB Brake requires only one adjustment during its wear life. The simple, three-step process, not requiring a service call or a mechanical specialist, makes the wear adjustment both cost-effective and timely.

It’s simple, Dynamic Torque.

DMB Brakes are designed to operate in dynamic situations. Because their dynamic torque is greater than their static torque rating, (which increases as temperatures rise), the DMB Brake provides superior braking performance that you need in critical applications. In contrast, commodity motor brakes are holding brakes with high static torque ratings, and are often inadequate in situations in which high dynamic torque forces are involved. The DMB Brake family is designed to fill this critical gap.

Development StoryPT Tech recognizes the limitation of typical commodity motor brakes. We know that OEM’s are looking for a compact motor brake that will operate in a dynamic event, and, in fact, will excel on the job. PT Tech brought together our knowledge and experience with coil design for DC-powered overhead crane brakes and disc rock design from large multi-plate brakes for 130-ton capacity shovels to form the foundation of our development of the DMB Brake line. Our in-house design and engineering team uses the latest in 3D modeling to create the most efficient and effective coil design.

FEA analysis provides data on the performance of components in real-world conditions. Our design is tested under high thermal conditions to validate its torque rating, wear capacity, and dynamic performance. And, finally, each unit can be tested prior to shipping to validate torque.

The new DMB Brake mounts to DIN standard motor flanges. In summary, PT Tech is proud to offer to the global marketplace a new product designed to increase the productivity, profitability, and safety of our customers’ enterprises. TheDynamic Motor Brake family brings with it the confidence that you have the world’s most innovative and customer-centered business partner at your back. PT Tech is currently pursuing ATEX and DVGL certifications.

VFD Drive SystemsVariable frequency motor drive controls will hold a load at zero speed as long as there is power to the VFD. In a perfect world, all that is needed is a static holding brake.

In the real world, however, this isn’t enough. Typical electric motor brakes have a high static torque, but the dynamic torque required in a critical situation drops dramatically. This means the ability to stop a falling load is questionable. Can you afford to take this chance?

The PT Tech Dynamic Motor Brake takes the doubt out of the equation. With its greater dynamic torque, it is designed to stop the load every time.

PT Tech’s sister company, AeroTorque, was founded in 2010 to capitalize on PT Tech’s experience in managing extreme torque loads for the benefit of wind industry. AeroTorque identified the root cause of premature failures in the wind turbine drive train as extreme torque reversals due to hard stops or high wind events. AeroTorque subsequently developed a torque monitoring system (WindTM) to demonstrate the issue to the entire industry. Our Reverse Torsional Damper (WindTC) is a simple yet effective solution to preserve the integrity of the drivetrain.

About PT Tech, Inc.Founded in 1978, PT Tech is a designer and manufacturer of clutches and brakes, based in Sharon Center, Ohio, USA.

We specialize in partnering with OEM’s in the heavy to extreme heavy-duty markets, typically in 300 to 1000 kW range of applications. We are there as an extension of their engineering problems, helping them overcome their brake and clutch challenges.

PT Tech is unique in its dedication to investing in itself. Our engineering staff (the largest in the US for an industrial clutch/brake manufacturer) stands ready to provide our customers with the resources for unparalleled and innovative problem solving. The breadth of our technology and testing capabilities helps PT Tech stand out among its competitors.

PT Tech’s Engineering Department includes both a mechanical and electronic controls group. Our mechanical engineers’ knowledge base includes hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical products for both electrical motor and diesel engine applications, in fields as diverse as extreme heavy-duty wire rope shovels to submarines, and everything in between.

Our controls group designs hardware and embedded software applications. Our patented controller that is integral to our HPTO products has made those clutches the world leader in several heavy-duty markets. Our design and manufacturing capabilities are supported by our extensive product testing. PT Tech has a fleet of test equipment to accommodate each of our products. Every customer can feel confident that the products they buy from us will meet or exceed their expectations in every way.
