You may qualify for free/reduced lunch. Chil-dren need access to healthy meals daily. Your child may qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Please visit: https://www.myschoolapps.com/ Here you can get more information and fill out an application. This program applies to school lunches as well as breakfast served daily. Applications are accepted year-round.
We are required by the district to send out attendance letters to any of our students
who fit certain criteria. Just as a friendly reminder please write your student a note or
give the office a phone call (360-662-8000) so we can excuse their tardy or absence.
Otherwise, these various tardies and absences go unexcused.
CKSD automated phone calls are there to help notify you when your student’s teacher/
the office has marked your child absent in our system. As much as these calls can be
bothersome they are there to help remind you to notify us when your student is gone.
Attendance letters are based on yearly attendance
throughout a single school year. They are not based
on a quarterly time frame and accrue throughout
the school year. We know our students were hit
particularly hard this year with the flu/illness, fami-
lies go on trips, and often things come up which re-
quire your student to be absent or tardy. We ap-
preciate your patience!

Principal’s Message:
Where did February go? We had snow, rain, wind, and a bunch of excitement here at Brownsville. We just wrapped up our Reading Olympics, had a wonderful book fair, bingo night, Cat in the Hat visited the students yesterday, and our new session of clubs will begin next week. The State delivered some good news as well, informing us that Brownsville has been selected as a Lighthouse School. With this award, comes $20,000 of support to continue our STEM work. In addition, this award puts us in partnerships with other schools around the state to further their STEM initia-tives. I’m extremely proud of our staff, students, and communi-ty.
March is going to be a busy month as well, as we have our Grade 4/5 Musical Performance, our Jog-a-Thon, Rummage Sale, a visit from Taproot Theatre, and numerous field trips. Thanks for your continued support within our active school community.
The month of March also marks an important transition towards the next school year. Currently, we have numerous students that don’t live in Brownsville's attendance area. In the past few years, we have had a huge growth of enrollment and increase of inter-est for students to attend Brownsville. If your student is currently out of Brownsville’s boundaries, it is so important that you fill out a request form. These forms must be filled out yearly, or your child may not be eligible to attend.
Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is coming up in May, and we are currently preparing. This will mark the third year that we have administered this challenging statewide test. To see sample questions, please visit http://wa.portal.airast.org/students-and-families/ and take the practice test. Just choose the options for the practice test and login as a guest. At this website, you can see the type of questions that will be asked at each grade lev-el. As we get closer to May, we’ll have the schedule of testing, so you can place medical/dental appointments around the assess-ment days.
Enjoy the onset of Spring,
Mr. Tebo
