PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3 PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

Dear brothers and sisters. Today we are told in the Gospel that a blind man, on hearing that Jesus was passing by, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." Many times in our lives Jesus passes by bestowing upon us many graces that most of the time we don’t take advantage of special graces are continuously offered to us in the fulfilment of the duties of the moment. God subordinates consequent graces to those graces that have previously been given. Therefore, infidelity to grace at a given time may deprive us of many other graces that God would have given us if we had used the earlier graces. Scripture says: “he who is faithful in little things, shall be faithful in great things”. If we practice fidelity in the little graces God offers us every day, we will be faithful in greater things.

Why do we not hear the voice of the Holy Spirit? 1°. In the first place, because of our lack of attention or habitual dissipation. God is within us, but we live

outside ourselves. The Holy Spirit says that he will lead us to solitude and will speak there to our hearts (cf. Hos 2,16). God does not choose to impose himself nor to take from us our own initiative. He does not force himself upon the soul; he does not enter if he is not wanted. And even if the soul is in the state of grace and enjoys the indwelling of the Trinity, God’s presence is silent and hidden until the soul itself turns to Him with love and attention.

2°. Another reason why we do not hear the voice of God within us is our sensuality. The animal man, says St. Paul, does not perceive the things of the Spirit of God (cf. 1Cor 2:14). For that reason it is absolute-ly necessary that we cultivate and preserve a spirit of mortification. Indeed, one of the first things that is lost by those who give themselves over to the things of the world, and especially to sensual delight, is the taste for prayer and the things of God.

3°. The third reason why we do not hear the voice of God is our own defects. Even in seeking God, we may deceive ourselves and actually seek ourselves. Pride, rationalism, indifference, laziness and discourage-ment are some of the defects that will make us blind and deaf to the voice and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

“Finding God in All Things”

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) are being offered at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Parish, Xavier Hall in Mankato beginning Saturday, December 1st at 10:15AM. The theme of the Spiritual Exercises is to know, love and serve God in this world. The exercises help us see who we are – one loved by God. They help us realize we are called by God to follow Jesus Christ, who became man over 2000 years ago to show us how to live. He still shows us how to live today. We will be using an established format conducive to the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life, in which someone can "make" the Exercises over the course of several weeks. We will begin the exercises in Advent, meet weekly through Advent and Christmas (5-weeks), break for two

months and then resume March 2nd covering the periods of Lent and Easter (8 weeks). Those interested in making the Spiritual Exercises or would like more information should contact Frank & Jackie Cesario at 507-625-2395, [email protected]

Adult Education:

What does Catholic Faith Have To Do with Addiction Recovery?

Scott Weeman, the founder of the national nonprofit Catholic in Recovery, is speaking on this topic at St. John the Baptist Church in Mankato on Nov 6th at 7pm. While secular addiction recovery initiatives have saved millions of lives and have been a great good, Catholic in Recovery groups exist in a parallel fashion to offer space to share the riches of the Catholic spir-itual life in supporting addiction recovery—it is a spiritual journey as well. Scott will speak of his own journey, and how the 12 step process can be further illuminated by the sacramen-tal and spiritual life of the Catholic Faith.

Priesthood Sunday

Today, October 28 has been designated as Priesthood Sunday. This day has been chosen by the USA Coun-cil of SERRA International as a day to honor our priests. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. Please join the Church on this special day in praying for our priests, in praising God for their cour-age and their generosity. We urge you to make your appreciation for your parish priests known. A simple note, a smile or a phone call to assure them of your loving care and gratitude for their presence in the life of your local Church will go a long way to serve the greater good of our wonderful Catholic Church.

Prayers for an increase to the Priesthood For 23 years a Marian prayer group has met to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and for all priests throughout the world. We meet on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in Ss Peter and Paul Chapel. We pray three rosaries and the Chaplet of Diving Mercy. Due to deaths and mov-ing, our numbers have dwindled and we are in need of more members. Please join us.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
