The Week at a Glance What kind of bone are you?

It's been said that the "body" of a church has four kinds of bones:1. The WISHbones - those who wish someone else would do all the work.

2. The JAWbones - who do all the talking and very little else.

3. The KNUCKLEbones - who knock everything anyone else tries to do.4. The BACKbones - who get under the load and get the work done

COIN COLLECTION...Our change makes a differ-

ence!

Malaria Kills....Malaria isparticularly devastating inAfrica, where it is a leading

killer of children. In fact, thereare 10 new cases of malaria

every second. Every 45seconds, a child in Africa dies

from a malaria infection.

Needed: Long-Lasting Insecti-cide-Treated Bed Nets

Although $10 for a bed netmay not sound like much, thecost makes them out of reachfor most people at risk of ma-laria, many of whom surviveon less than $1 a day. Nets

are a simple, life-saving solu-tion, but we need your help toprovide them to those in need.

A Lifelong Commitment

Small change for big change!

read the sign over the large

plastic bottles placed along the

front of the church. Into each of

the bottles was a cardboard

mailing tube with signs that read:

Pennies for Proclaiming, Nickels

for Nurturing, Dimes for Disciplin-

ing, and Quarters for Christ’s

Kingdom.

It was Missions Outreach Month

at our church and the idea was to

emphasize stewardship by

encouraging the Sunday school

children to come forward and

drop their offerings into the

appropriate bottles.

On Sunday the children trooped

up the aisle while an enthusiastic

9-year-old thumped out the

offertory on the piano. She was

Condolences

soon accompanied by the sound of

dozens of coins popcorning into

the plastic bottles. As the children

milled about, a tall awkward

teenage boy stooped to help a

toddler whose pennies were

clasped in sweaty little hands. An

older sister directed her

kindergartner brother toward the

nickel bottle. A mother slipped out

of her pew to go up front and

suppress the unbridled enthusiasm

of two siblings, each determined to

donate to the same bottle at the

same time. A grandfather showedhis tiny grandson how it was done

by dropping a coin into the quarter

bottle.

The missionary speaker smiled as

he addressed the children. “You

start by giving your pennies to the

Lord, and then, one day we hope,

you will give Him your lives.”

Pray for Missionaries: The Knight Family (Japan) www.theknights.multiply.com

Many times we are asked, “Who is my

deacon?”

To help you, we will list the Deacon of the

Week and his list of families in the WLBC

Bulletin — ENewsletter. There will be a

complete list posted on the bulletin board

near the church office. This complete list is

alphabetical by your last name. We hope

this will help you know who your deacon is

for the year. If you have any questions,

please feel free to contact the church office.

Louder, I can't hear youBill Moyers, the theologically trained television personality often seen on PBSstations, was once an aide to President Lyndon Johnson. During that time the

president often asked him to pray before a meeting or a meal.Once, just as Moyers began a prayer, the president spoke up and said, "Louder, I

can't hear you."Young Moyers responded, "With all due respect Mr. President, the prayer is not

addressed to you."
