DESCRIPTION

Presentation at the Digital Technologies Symposium 2010 in Auckland, 17 November 2010. http://www.cognition.co.nz/index.php/our-services/digital-technologies-symposium-2010 Session abstract: Portfolios can be used for a number of reasons: reflection, development, assessment, and showcasing best work. In the last decade, interest has grown in the use of digital tools to support portfolio work. Thus, e-portfolios emerged. In this session we will take a look at how e-portfolios can support classroom work. We will explore how e-portfolios are used by individuals but also groups as collaborative learning tool and become part of an individual's personal learning environment. Furthermore, we will take a look at e-portfolio use by teachers and the associated benefits. The examples will be taken primarily from users of Mahara, an open source e-portfolio software available to New Zealand schools in the form of the hosted service MyPortfolio.
