“My New Year Confession”Okay. I prefer most of my confessing be between God and myself but I will venture out and trust this one to you. I have a system when it comes to cheating on a diet. I go to the back of the Oreo Cookie package for my special treats. Thus, the front of the pack appears to be unmolested. Does Mary Ann really need to know everything I do? It’s just a little trick to keep the cookie monitor off my back. I’ve done the same with Christmas cookies and other special occasion delights. THERE . . . I SAID IT!I’ve come to the realization (because my clothes are fitting uncomfortably tight) that I have been only fooling myself. My

You know, a little cheating goes a long way. The shortcuts we take in life can become the derailing of our reputation and integrity. I’m not talking cookies now, I’m talking mission and purpose in life. God has a plan for our lives and ministry. Jeremiah 29: 11 says, “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future . . .” How do we attain His promises if we divert from the path to His prosperity?

Spiritual formation is not a goalpost but an active playing field. It is an ongoing process requiring intentionality and diligence. Systems and disciplines must be in place to help us navigate the challenges of life and benefit from all experiences, good or bad. Disciplines like prayer, Bible study, adequate sermon preparation time, developing people skills and overall time management are the kinds of things that have little tolerance for shortcuts. Of course, this is only a partial list!

Considering the fact that we produce after our own kind, it is unlikely that those we lead will ever aspire to be better than what we exemplify. Let’s all determine to attack 2015 with a new determination to be transparent and disciplined. Otherwise, our cheating might leave us overweight and out of shape. I think you get the point!

Be blessed in the New Year and know that we love and care for all of you! Now . . . I need an Oreo because confession has been tough on me!

waistband has known about my devious behavior since Thanksgiving and has betrayed my trust. Yes, it all comes out in the tale of the tape measure!

CONGRATULATIONS to Pastor Danilo Quijano and El Shaddai Assembly of God in Rockaway, NJ. They did a terrific job in the completion of their beautiful Church facility. The building accommodates a beautiful sanctuary, large fellowship hall, classrooms and offices.

It was my distinct honor to preach the dedicatory mes-sage on October 25th. Presbyter Matt Jones also was present to offer greetings from their sectional ministers. Several members of the Filipino Fellowship attended the festivities and presented honors to Brother Dan Quijano for his many years of effective ministry to the Filipino community in the Northeast.

The Church is both spacious and quite beautiful.Following the service we all enjoyed a wonderful cultural

meal in their beautiful and functional fellowship hall. Thank you Pastor Quijano and El Shaddai Assembly for being such an inspiring and influential ministry in the New Jersey District! We rejoice in your success!

UVF Worship Leading Program Recognized in National Magazine

Worship Leader magazine selected the Worship Leading undergraduate program and Worship Studies graduate program of the University of Valley Forge (UVF) as part of its Best of the Best 2014 issue. The Best of the Best issue is an annual selection by the editorial team of the top resources and products that influenced services of worship in the past calendar year. UVF was highlighted as one of the top worship leader training academic programs around the country. This year’s issue highlighted the top leadership training nationwide, worship songs, visual resources, musical instruments and missional resources. Worship Leader said UVF’s undergraduate Worship Leading program combines traditional, theological and practical training: “A dynamic spiritual environment with multiple opportunities to develop your leadership skills provides the ultimate higher education experience for aspiring worship leaders.” It also stated that the Worship Studies graduate program establishes a solid foundation for students and the “skills needed for a lifetime of leadership.” Department of Music chair and professor, William DeSanto, Ph.D., said, “We are honored that both of our worship leading programs have received this national recognition ... It is a tribute to all our team members who have diligently worked over the years to create these relevant and much-needed programs.” Both UVF programs are designed to offer students a valuable range of knowledge and experience within worship leading. The Worship Leading undergraduate program is one of the eight programs offered in the Department of Music. The program prepares students to become contemporary worship leaders. Students become proficient in voice, musical instruments, songwriting and the use of current technology for worship. This program also provides students with a solid biblical and theological foundation. The Worship Studies master’s program is designed for worship leaders, pastors, missionaries and laypersons interested in graduate-level worship studies. This graduate program is the first of its kind offered by an Assemblies of God college or university. The courses offer historical and theological concepts as well as practical, applicable knowledge and experience. The University of Valley Forge is grateful for this recognition.
