    Wildlife Trust Alliance's Dr. Rodrigo A. Medellin Awarded National Conservation

    Honor by Mexican President Vicente Fox

    A Leading Mammalogist, Dr. Medellin is Expert in Bat Conservation and Natural

    Resource Preservation

    PALISADES, NEW YORK, Dec. 1 -/E-Wire/-- Wildlife Trust, the international

    non-profit organization focused on conservation science and the key

    relationships between environmental change and wildlife and human health,

    announced that Dr. Rodrigo A. Medellin, a member of the Wildlife Trust

    Alliance, has won the 2004 Nature Conservation Award for Academic Research by

    the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas in Mexico. Mexican President

    Vicente Fox awarded the honor on November 27, 2004 in Yum Balam, Quintana Roo,

    Mexico.

    An internationally respected mammalogist, Dr. Medellin is Professor of Ecology

    at the University of Mexico. He is President of the Board of Directors of theAmerican Society of Mammalogists, and serves on a task force of the Millenium

    Project of the United Nations, addressing the preservation of natural

    resources.

    Dr. Medellin is also Director of the Program for Conservation of Bats in

    Mexico, and is an advisor to the Mexican government on wildlife issues.

    In making the announcement, Dr. Mary C. Pearl, President of Wildlife Trust,

    said, "Rodrigo has been on the forefront of wildlife conservation in Mexico for

    25 years, and is an expert in bat ecology and conservation. We are delighted

    that his work has been honored at the highest level in Mexico, and very proud

    that he is a part of the Wildlife Trust Alliance."

    The Wildlife Trust Alliance is an international network of leaders in

    conservation science and preeminent conservation organizations, and is housed

    within Wildlife Trust. The Alliance presented its Conservation Platform at theWorld Conservation Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand in November of 2004.
