12.6.2009 being observed as Anti Child Labour Day, all Principals of Trichy
Colleges took a pledge for Eradication of Child Labour.
On 26.6.2009 The NSS volunteers attended the rally on World Anti-Drug
Day, flagged off by the District Collector , Thiru. T. Soundaiah I.A.S. The Rally
started from Vestry Higher Secondary School and ended at Trichy Railway Junction.
The NSS volunteers attended another rally on the same day on (World Anti-
Drug Day) flagged off by the District Collector, Thiru. T. Soundaiah I.A.S.. The
Rally started from Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School and ended at Shrimati
Indira Gandhi College Trichy on 26.6.2009.
On 30.6.2009 a Special Lecture Programme on
“Environment Protection” was conducted by Mr.E.Paul
Guna Loganath, B.Sc.,M.A.,Managing Director, Sneham
Charitable Trust, Trichy on 30.6.2009.
NSS Unit Cell, Bharathidasan University and the NSS
Units of , Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy organized
a Lecture Programme on “Hygienic Practices for
Adolescents” by Prof. M. Sumithra, Principal, Karpaga
Vinayaga College of Nursing, Pudukkottai on 18.7.2009.
Conducted a Lecture Programme on “General
Orientation” by Prof. K.S. Dhanam, SG Lecturer in
English, Periyar, EVR College, Trichy on 25.7.2009.
Celebration of World Breast Feeding Week (1st Aug to 8
th Aug). The
NSS Units of the College along with Indian Academy of Peadiatrics, Trichy organized
an Awareness Programme on “Breast Feeding” by Dr.S.Pannerselvam and
Dr. M. Umarani, Indian Academy of Peadiatrics, Trichy Centre at Mutharasanallur and a
Healthy Baby Contest was also conducted on 2.8.2009.
Dr. M. S. Ashraf, President, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchirappalli Branch,
inaugurated the Camp.
Conducted a one day camp on “Preparation of
Vermi-Compost” at West AamurVillage, Trichy on
30.7.2009.
To mark the 63rd
Independence Day. Our NSS students
hoisted the National Flag and conducted oratorical and Essay
Writing Competitions at Mutharasa Nallur, M. Koodalur,
Pazhur and Kambarasampettai and Awarded Prizes.
Inauguration of the Anemia Detection Camp on the eve
of Rajiv Gandhi Birthday jointly organized by National
Serive Scheme & Youth Red Cross and Rajiv Gandhi
Memorial Trust (Health and Educational), Trichy, on
20.8.2009. Dr. K. Meena, Principal presided.
The Department of Biochemistry and NSS Units
organized an Outreach Programme on “Kitchen
Garden” at Mudhalaipatti, Veeramalaikoundanpatti
and Seplapatti on 28.8.2009.
Mr.K.Subramanian, District Youth Co-ordinator of Nehru Yuvakendra welcomed the
gathering. The Principal delivered the Presidential Address in the presence of the
Secretary Shri. S. Kunjithapatham. Mr. Dhakshinamoorthy, District Revenue Officer
gave the Special Address.
Conducted 10 Day Special Camp at Mutharasanallur, Murungapettai,
Kambarasampettai, M. Koodalur and Pazhur from 24.12.09 to 30.12.09. Special
importance was given to Craft work, Awareness in Small Savings, General and
Children’s Medical Camp, Sapling Plantation, Developing a Garden at Home,
Identifying the Truant Children (children not attending school) in the camp.
The National Service Scheme along with
G.Viswanathan Hospital, S T.V and Dinamalar
organized a Rally for “Awareness of Breast Cancer”
on 1.10.2009. The Rally started from Holy Cross
College marched along the West Bouleward road and
terminated at the college.
Gandhiji’s Birthday was celebrated on 2.10.2009 in our
college under the Gandhi tree, under the joint auspices of
Nehru Yuva Kendra, Rajiv Gandhi Trust and NSS Units
of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College. An oath taking
programme under the Gandhi tree was also held.
The NSS Unit Cell of Bharathidasan University
and National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira
Gandhi College conducted a One Day Camp on
“Solid Waste Management” at Musiri on 3.10.2009.
Dr. K. Meena, Principal of the college inaugurated
the camp in the presence of Shri.M.Subburaman,
Managing Director, SCOPE.
Awareness was also created on First Aid for Mental Health, Balanced Diet, Yoga,
Personality Development and Computer Training for physically challenged children.
Games were also conducted for Children.
25 NSS Volunteers attended the Training to give Polio Drops to the Children on
7.2.2010 at Health Care Centre, Teppakkulam, Trichy.
250 NSS Volunteers assisted the Programme in “Kalaingnar’86 Job Fair”
conducted by Government of Tamil Nadu from 26.2.2010 to 28.2.2010.
A One Day Camp was conducted in the five adopted villages on 15.3.2010 at
Mutharasanallur, Murungapettai, Kambarasampettai, Pazhur and M.Koodalur.
Students planted the saplings in all the villages.
Conducted a Lecture Programme on “Think About it” on 20.3.2010.

A One Day Special Camp on “Environmental
Awareness” was organized by National Service Scheme
(NSS) at Sirugamani Village, Trichy on 2.4.2008.
NSS, NCC, Exnora, Consumer Club, Youth Red Cross,
Rotaract Club, Nature Club and Fine Arts jointly organized
Pongal Celebrations on 11.1.2010.
200 NSS Students participated in the Rally for World Health
Day organized by Hello 106.f.m in association with Our
College and Kavery Medical Centre, Trichy on 7.4.2008.
50 NSS Students participated in the Rally for
“World Anti-drugs Day” organized by the
Khajamalai Ladies Club and the Special Wing for
Anti-Drug addiction, Trichy on 26.6.2008.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) conducted a special Lecture programme
on “Role of Women in Anti –Drugs” by Ms.J..Rebecca, Family Counsellor,
SOCSEED, Trichy on 26.6.2008.
5 NSS students participated in the Workshop on “Substance Abuse
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking Observance” on
26th & 27
th June 2008 at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development,
Sri Perumbudur.
20 NSS Students and IT ON WHEELS Participated in the Rally from Major
Saravanan Memorial Pillar to Cauvery College and gave an Awareness Programme on
“Comptuer Literacy” on 29.6.2008 organized by Cauvery College for Women, Trichy
as part of the National Integration Camp.

Writing and Poster Making in connection with the Valediction of World Breast
Feeding Week Celebration – 2008, jointly Organized by Indian Children Medical
Association, K.A.P. Viswanatham Medical College, Trichy, Government Hospital,
Srirangam, Trichy National Social Service, Department of Biochemistry of Shrimati
Indira Gandhi College and the Inner Wheel Club of Trichy were held on 7.8.2008.
The National Service Scheme organized a Seminar on “Renewable
Energy”. Dr. S. Selvam, Dean of Life Science, Co-ordinator, Molecular Bio-Science,
Reader, Zoology, Bishop Heber College, Trichy
delivered an Address on “ Renewable Energy –
The New Thought”, Prof. A. Antony Sany, Head,
Department of Biochemistry, Kurinji College of
Arts & Science, Trichy, addressed the audience on
“Solar Energy” and Ms. A. Shanmuga Priya, Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry
spoke on “Bio-Gas Production from waste”.
The National Service Scheme conducted a Special
Lecture Programme on “Personality Development
& General Orientation” by Dr. Umesh Samuel,
Reader, Department of Social Work, Bishop Heber
College, Trichy and Dr. Florence Shalini,
Department of Social Work, Bishop Heber College,
Trichy on 23.9.2008.
Celebration of NSS Day. The National
Service Scheme nducted an “Essay
Writing” and “Poster Making”competition
A Lecture Programme on “ Leadership
Qualities” by Dr.D.Arul Jeganatha Raj,
Professor, Department of Management Studies was given on 24.9.2008.
The National Service Scheme organized a Sapling Plantation
Programme and issued a Poster “TOBACCO LESS COLLEGE” on 16.10.08.
Dr. K. Kanagaraj, Co-ordinator, NSS, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli
inaugurated the function and delivered the Special Address.
National Service Scheme and NSS Wings of Bharathidasan University
organized a Saplings Plantation Function at the adopted villages of
Kambarasampettai, Murungapettai, Mutharasanallur, M. Cuddalore and Pazhur on
21.10.2008. Mrs. M. Rema, Vice Principal inaugurated the function at
Mutharasanallur & Murungapettai. Mr.Raja, Mr. Jeeva Periyaswami & Mrs. Nithya
Ward Members inaugurated the function at Kambarasampettai and Pazhur.
25 Students participated in World Aids Day Walk for
Awareness on HIV / AIDS from St. John’s Vestry Anglo
Indian Higher Secondary School, Trichy on 30.11.2008.
20 Students participated in paying tribute to Martyrs of Mumbai terror attack,
organized by the Rotaract Clubs of Trichy and Srirangam.
NSS, NCC, Exnora etc jointly organized Sugathara Pongal Celebrations on 6.1.09
Conducted 7 Days Special Camp at Mutharasanallur,
Murungapettai, Kambarasampettai, M. Koodalur and
Pazhur from 25.1.2009 to 31.1.2009 Special
importance was given to Craft work,

On 20.02.09 NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and Bharathidasan
University jointly organized one day blood donation camp on behalf of the ginus
record. Dr.K.Meena, Principal of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College gave the
presidential address. Mr.S.Kannan, Police Commissioner, Fort Station,Trichy
inaugurated the camp and the vote of thanks was given by Mr. S.Kunjithapatham,
Secretary, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College .
2007 – 08
P. Eugine Praveena, II BCA & J. Lidwin Soundaria, II B.Sc (Maths) participated
in the 150th
Year of India War of Independence Commemoration and NSS Camp
held at New Delhi from 7.5.2007 to 11.5.2007
The National Service Scheme (NSS) conducted an Outreach Programme on “Adult
Education” & “Arts & Craft” at Kachamangalam Village, Tirukkattupalli on 1.7.2007.
200 NSS Students of our college participated in Temple
Cleaning at Sri. Renganatha Swami Temple at Srirangam
on 29.7.2007.
A Lecture Programme on “General Orientation” was
held with Dr.Umesh Samuel, Reader, Department of Social
Work, Bishop Heber College, Trichy as the Resource Person
on 31.7.2007.
50 Students participated in the Rally organized by
Dinamalar on 12.8.2007 to celebrate the 60th Independence
Day.
5 Students participated in the Rally from Tiruchirapalli to Vedaranyam
organized by Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli from 13.8.2007 to 15.8.2007 to
commemorate the completion of 150 years of the Freedom Struggle, 70th year of Salt
Satyagraha & 60th
year of Independence.
A Special Lecture programme on “Stress
Management” was held by Ms. Sherrin Sophia, Head,
Department of Social Work on 22.9.2007.
NSS Day Celebration. Dr.K.Meena, Principal/Director distributed prizes to the
winners of Essay writing and Poster-making competitions on 24.9.2007. Dr.Finita
Roy, Lecturer, Department of Rehabilation Science, Holy Cross College, Trichy
delivered a lecture on”Learning Disability”.
10 II Year Students took part in the Rally organized by Trust and
Aids Organizations in commemoration of the “World Mental
Health Day” on 10.10.2007.
The II year NSS Students did field work on 13.10.2007
in our adopted villages Mutharasanallur, Kamarajapuram,
Murungapettai, Koodalore & Pazhur in the Union of
Andanallur, Trichy.
On 14.10.2007 25 II Year NSS Students participated in an
Awareness programme on Breast Cancer organized by the GVN
Hospital, Trichy.
10 Day NSS Camp was held at Mutharasanallur,
Kamarasapuram and Murungapettai, Anthanallur Union, Trichy
from 21.12.2007 to 30.12.2007.
J. Lidwin Soundaria participated in the National Youth Convention on Youth for
Progress and Excellence , Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 13.1.2008 to 15.1.2008.
On 14.2.2008 & 15.2.2008 Computer Training was given
to school students by our NSS students in 5 adopted
villages.
0n 28.2.2008, 5 students participated in an awareness programme on “Noise
Pollution” jointly organized by TamilNadu Pollution Control Board and Voice Trust.
