Electrically Assisted Diesel Particulate Filter (EADPF) for straight truck bobtail TRUs (<25hp)
California’s emission regulations for Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs) have been in effect since 2004. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulation applies to owners and operators of diesel powered TRUs that are at least seven years old and operate in California (out-of-state TRUs included).

From TRU model year 2008 and on, there is no CARB-approved engine replacement available.
n Retrofit the engine with a verified Level 3 Diesel Particulate Filter (also known as a Verified Diesel Emission Control Strategy, or VDECS)
The EADPF is designed to meet Level 3 VDECS requirements.
n Replace 7 year old TRU unit with a new TRU.

How does it work?The EADPF collects engine soot (PM) and then regenerates (cleans) itself automatically when the TRU is operated with heavy loads. Whenever the TRU is operated on lighter loads, electrical heat assistance increases exhaust gas temperatures to a level for the catalytic filter to perform regeneration. The system operates fully automatically and there is no intervention needed from the driver.

The EADPF also includes a data logger that continuously monitors filter operation and records the back pressure and exhaust temperature data as required by CARB. The system monitors the filter and notifies the driver of any possible operation issue with an LED light in the cab.
The EADPF is a user-friendly system that does not require service under normal use. However, during annual maintenance of the TRU, ash may need to be cleaned from the DPF substrate.
