EAGLE FLYERDear Parents, Families and Friends,
Its hard to believe that Fall is finally here. It seems like everyone is so
busy that we have hardly had time to enjoy the cooler temperatures. I
would like to take a minute to remember my dear friend Lisa Clayton
who passed away this summer. She was a past PTA President and
champion of the children here at Euper Lane. I know that she touched
many peoples lives and I want to wish her a Happy Birthday this October
3rd. I know that she is missed by all of us.
Speaking of busy...I want to thank Cheryl Maxwell and SarahCarlisle for their help with the I nn isbrook Fund ra iser . Thank you to
everyone who participated! I also want to thank Shelly Blaylock for all of
her hard work on PTA Membership. We are very close to reaching 100%
membership- so please join the PTA TODAY if you have not! Jennifer
Sexton and Jessica Young have been busy organizing the volunteers for
the year and the copy room has been a beehive of activity. Cherie
Koenigseder has done a great job organizing the Homeroom Moms for
the classrooms.
The grand reopening of the Euper Lane Branch of Benefit Bank was
September 22-23. What a great response Bank had! Thanks to Margaret
McLellan for organizing such a gigantic project. I would also like to thankall of the bank mommies and daddies for their hard work and giving up
their Friday mornings.
The first Dinner Out was Thursday, September 29th at Chick-
F i l -A. Thank you to Debbie Martin for coordinating the Dinner Out. As
usual, it was a lot of fun! The 5th and 6th grade students were wonderful

A lotof firefighters died by trying to savepeople in the crashing bu ilding.Even t hough t hey did save a bunchof lives, the firefighters died becausethe building crashed right on top ofthem. So, we should be thank fulthat we have heroes that risk theirlives to save ours.

Fall is here, which means
Trunk-or-Treat is near!Trunk-or-treat is scheduled for Friday, October 28th. We will
send out more information soon, but we wanted to let you
know what we have planned. There will be prizes given this
year for the most creative trunks, a pumpkin decorating
contest, and a costume contest. Check your folders forcontest rules and info later this month...and for details on the
great prizes that you could win!
Trunk-or-Treat is a fun (and safe) Halloween event for the
whole family. We especially want to encourage parents to
dress up this year! There will be lots of candy, Halloween
games, and face-painting. Pizza, soft drinks, and cookies will
be available for purchase as well.
We are also looking for a few good trunks! Wed love to fill up
the parking lot with as many gruesome ghoul mobiles and
crazy candy wagons as possible. So....if you have a car, truck,
van, or SUV that is just begging to be dressed up and filled up
with tasty treats, please fill out the sign-up sheet and return it
to the school office by Monday, October 17th.
Or, if youd just like to volunteer to help out, please contact

PE NEWS
Thank you so much for sending your child to
school on PE days dr essed for play. Safe shoes are so
import ant! Congratulations to Mrs . Brow n 's c lass for
being t he first class to have 100% tennis shoes on PE
day! We started the year with cooperative games and
then got busy with football. 5th and 6th graders enjoyed
actual flag football gam es and also took a football quiz!Do you know the position name of the person who hikes
the ball? I bet your child does! 3rd and 4th graders
participated in modified lead-up football activities like
Quarterback Sneak which is played with a quarter and
not a football! Grades K-2 learned to throw and run with
the ball, Nerf of course! After more tagging and team
gam es we are ready t o work on soccer skills. The
weather is perfect for it!
4th-6th grade students also participated in the Fort
Smith Public Schools district fitness assessment. Eachchild was tested on sit- ups, push-ups, flexibility, and a
mile run! A mile is 7 laps around our track. I am so proud
of the effort and determination our students showed with
th is difficult t ask. These same student s will repeat the
test in the spring and we are hopeful to show growth!
Finally, our 4th grade students are invited to join
other 4th grades students in the district for a Southside
football gam e pregam e perform ance on Friday, October
28th, at Southside at approximately 7PM. Students will
manipulate PE equipment to music under the direction ofa Southside drum major. As you may be thinking, this is
also the night of Euper Lane Trunk or Treat. As I did not
determine the date for either event, I completely
understand any decision your family makes for that
evening. I will be at the football game ready to perform
with any students who can m ake it! I t 's actually nice to
have two fun activities to choose from!
I am so very blessed to work at Euper Lane
with your wonderful children. I appreciate all you
do to support PE!If you ever have any questions, feel free to
email me at: [email protected]
or call the school and leave me a message.

W ou ld y ou l i k e t o s how c as e y ou r c rea t i v e and

what you can do in the arts?
The PTA Reflections competition offers just that ! I f you

This is how it works. First, you need to know the theme.
This year s theme is Diversit y Means. (The dictionar y
defines diversity as variety, the way that things are
different.) Next, you need to reflect on the theme; think
about what it m eans to you. Then you decide how you
want t o express what it m eans. You may use any of six
art categories to do th is: Dance Choreography, Film/ Video
Production, Literature, Photography, Musical Composition,
and Visual Arts. Expressing the m eaning of the them e
through t he art category is the main goal.
If you are interested, copies of th e student entry form are
available in the Reflections Notebook in the school office.
The notebook also contains copies of the rules and
regulations for each art category (or you can see these
online at www. PTAReflections.org, learn m ore, local
participation, rules and regulations) . Entr ies are due by
November 10.
I am h ere to help; if you have questions, need m aterials,
