5 Ways to Stress Yourself Out, Be Late For

Everything, and Die Young By Andy Masters, College Central Network

If you don't want to be productive or happy, here are five sure-fire ways to run yourself into the ground.

1. Overload your schedule and to-do list

We often try so hard to be superheroes in every phase of our lives, every day – a condition known as "Superhero Syndrome." We honorably try to please everyone else first, by putting our own wants and responsibilities last. We must know when to say "No," and when to say "Yes, but not right now."

2. Multitask as many things as possible at once

If you attempt to do two (or twelve) things done at once, you can’t get either task done as well, or as efficiently. Master this simple but powerful 2-step process: Prioritize and focus. Tackle your most important task first.

3. Do everything yourself, never ask for help, and don’t delegate ever again

"A leader isn’t the person running around doing everything themselves. A leader is someone who empowers others to achieve the goals of the organization as a team."

4. Seek out the MOST time possible with negative and stressful people

There are two types of people in this world: Those who lift people up, and those who bring people down. We have a choice of who we spend our valuable time with.

5. Don’t have any fun in your life whatsoever

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do, than the things you did." -– Mark Twain

Concentration on these 5 principles is a sure-fire way to stress yourself out, be late for everything, and die young. Of course, for best results, don’t forget to sleep poorly, eat unhealthy, and don’t exercise. Best of luck…you can do it!

Etiquette Tip of the Week: R.S.V.P. As anyone who throws parties will tell you, one of the challenges is understanding the letters, "R.S.V.P." R.S.V.P. stands for the French "respondez s'il vous plait" meaning, "Please respond," as in whether you plan to attend or not attend the event. It does not mean "Regrets only." If you are throwing the party, using "Regrets only" is regrettable, because it assumes rude people who never respond will be there. ("Honey, why do we have so much left over shrimp dip?")

Respond to an email invite by email. Respond to a phone invite by phone. Respond to a formal invite through the postal mail by a written reply through the postal mail, using a fold-over note. In your response, say, "I am replying..." not "I am R.S.V.P.ing." (Which does not have a nice ring to it, in any case.)

It is rude to ask your host or hostess, "Who else will be there?" as it implies that accepting or rejecting the invite is contingent on there being people more important to you than the one throwing the party. (No one likes to feel like a tuna sandwich to a person who prefers grilled salmon.)

Try to respond to an invitation as soon as you know you are able to attend...not at the last minute, because you have been holding out for a better offer. Once committed, stick to it, even if the better offer does come. There are certain parties, such as an open house, where you may pop in, then leave to attend another party. But you may not leap up in the middle of a dinner party and announce, "I have somewhere else I have to be!" (I'm so popular!) If an emergency arises, contact your host or hostess and let them know you will be unable to attend.

Count on people who don't respond to an invite just showing up. Have enough food and a little flexibility -- because it would be difficult to suddenly shut off the lights and have all of your guests hit the deck and pretend like they are not there. The next time, you can leave non-responders off your invite list.
