Automating your power distribution system is mission critical. Easergy C5 automation schemes contributes to your energy efficiency strategy by increasing power availability and sustaining the savings.

Smarter Power Distribution Systems

Easergy C5 processes real-time automation schemes based on IEC 61131-3 standard over interoperable IEC 61850 communication services and networks. A significant step towards smarter power distribution systems with...

Fast Power Restoration: widely deployed in large power distribution systems to automatically restore the power within less than 300 ms upon detection of an electrical fault.

Automatic Transfer Switch: typical scheme to quickly switchover when electrical distribution systems are connected to two or more power sources.

MV/LV Load Shedding: this function maintains critical loads connected to the system while shedding non-critical ones by keeping the balance between power generation and energy consumption.

MV/LV Load Restore: while reconnecting the loads, this automation scheme limits the inrush current by sequentially reclosing power transformers.

MV Emergency Genset Capacity Management: conciliates the emergency gensets capacity with energy consumption by disconnecting non-critical loads according to the available power.

IED Failure Management: fallback schemes are executed upon detection of four different types of operational failure modes: IED fault mode, position discrepancy, Invalid acquisition, fail to operate.

Operational Excellence & Safety

Easergy C5 is an innovative product natively based on IEC 61850 standards with Process Bus capabilities in a compact box enclosure, helping to speed up project deployment activities by reducing configuration, installation and on-site testing labors.

Cybersecurity affects everyone. This is why Easergy C5 uses security-by-design approach by incorporating security due diligence practices and common security level requirements, based on IEC 62443 standards, into its development lifecycle.

Easergy C5 contributes to environmental constraints of MV electrical substations design by helping to mitigate hazards and raise sustainability awareness with fewer secondary connections (less copper footprint).

Sustaining Energy Efficiency Savings…

Energy efficiency is not one-time project. It is a continued cycle. Automation schemes can drift away from optional performance if not adjusted over time.

Monitoring & Maintenance is an important stage to sustain the achieved savings, especially when it comes to power unavailability due to unplanned or unmanaged equipment.

Easergy C5 brings a software intelligence that helps automate power distribution systems and avoid processes shutdowns.

Easergy C5 helps to protect and control large power distribution systems with automation schemes that contributes to site’s power reliability and efficiency.

System Design

Two typical connections needs to be considered while designing the power distribution system to incorporate Easergy C5 automation schemes:

MV Utility Incomers Connection provides power to the site. It is typically equipped with at least two different types of circuit breakers: General Circuit Breaker – connects utility incomer to the electrical system; Outcoming Feeders Circuit Breakers – connects utility incomer to the electrical topology.

Easergy C5 is responsible of monitoring (e.g. Voltage Indicator) and re-closing Outcoming feeders CB since power restoration sequence of operation is complete.

MV Secondary Substations Connection lowers the voltage to distribute it to various loads connected to the power distribution system. It is equipped with one or more outcoming feeders circuit breakers or switches to the MV/LV power transformers and two incoming/outcoming feeders to the electrical topology.

Easergy C5 is responsible of monitoring and operate MV secondary substation CB and/or Switches in response to automation schemes sequence of operation.

Voltage Sharing with Process Bus

Easergy C5 supports process bus capabilities with dual-nature configuration: any product reference can be either a Bay Control and Protection Unit (BCPU) or Standalone Merging Unit (SAMU) via software selection.

Process Bus capabilities help to reduce hardwired connections in addition to on-site testing and maintenance downtime leading up to faster project deployment activities.

When two voltage sources are shared (e.g. two utility incomers), Easergy C5 is capable of carry out a VT switchover based on the system topology it relies upon, i.e. it subscribes to one SV message voltage samples at time shared by two stand-alone merging units.
