CHILD CARE

Play Center & Y-Zone ages 3 months-12 years:While parents are enjoying our programs andservices at the East Lake Family YMCA, theirchildren are divided into age appropriaterooms that are monitored by well trainedstaff. Ages 3 months – 12 years can participatein developmentally sound activities that arefun and engaging! The Play Center serves 3months – 5 years of age, and Y-Zone serves6-12 year olds, Come experience the YMCAdifference by witnessing our core values ofCaring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibilityin action!

This free service is offered to FacilityMembers with Family or Youth Membership.2-hour limit per day (up to 7 hours/week).

Parent’s Time Out ages 18 months-5 years:Looking for somewhere to put your little onwhile you run errands? Activities includestory time, arts & crafts, games, playgroundtime, recreational play, music and movement.

Prime Time After School Enrichment Program:Looking for an after school program for your child? Our BrightFrom the Start license program runs from 2:30pm-6:30pmeveryday that school is in session. We offer homework assistance, daily snacks, arts-n-crafts, recreation and more ina safe, caring environment.

Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on the total household income.

East Lake Early Learning AcademyOur goal is to eliminate the language gap and ensure our studentsbe ready to succeed in learning to read when they reachkindergarten, and are on a path to reading to learn by third grade.

With the support of our collaborative partners- Drew CharterSchool, Rollins Center of Language & Learning at the AtlantaSpeech, CF Foundation and the East Lake Foundation.Collectively, circumstances to help children achieve successfrom cradle to college.

The Academy serves students age 6 weeks to three yearsresiding in the city of Atlanta and zoned to attend AtlantaPublic Schools.

The ELELA uses two evidence – based curriculums to supportlearning:

The Opening the World of Learning Curriculum is used for thethree year old classroom. OWL is a comprehensive curriculumthat develops language and literacy skills through rich contentin all domains of learning. Themes, skills, and concepts aredeveloped through the used of quality children’s books (fictionand non-fiction).

The Creative Curriculum is used as the framework to supportlearning for our infant, ones, and two year old classrooms.The research-based curriculum helps teachers understanddevelopmentally appropriate practices and how to providemeaningful experiences that respond to children’s strengths,interest, and needs.

Teens

Summer L.I.T: LIT stands for Leader-In-Training. We’ve found the best leaders andstaff are often those who have been throughthe camp experience as a camper. LITs aretransitioning from a camper to a camp leader.LITs have the opportunity to continueattending camp, albeit in a new role. LITsbuild leadership skills, continue in the camptradition of forming lasting relationships, andcontribute to the overall camp atmosphere.The LIT program is for campers who wish totransition to the role of Counselor in thefuture or those who simply wish to buildskills for future employment.

Level 3: Teens in the LEAD

Teen Advisory Board: Teen Advisory Board isa core group of Y-leaders who work togetherto find ways to engage other teens. TeenBoard is a forum for teens to meet otherteens who enjoy service and to have a voiceplanning the activities for teens at the YMCAYouth and Teen Development Center. To helppromote our services to other teens, TAB willmeet as a group at once a month. During themeeting TAB will discuss and plan upcomingactivities, talk about ways the Youth andTeen Center can help teens in the community. Alongside serving as ambassadorat the Y, they complete ongoing leadershipand personal development trainings toinclude: public speaking, financial literacy,teen entrepreneurs, and more.

Teen LEED Initiative: Leadership, Enrichment,Employment, and Development

At the Y, Youth and Teens are encouraged to reach their fullpotential by mastering life skills needed to become positiveadult citizens. By offering programs and activities that fosterpersonal growth and awareness, we focus on developing youthand teens in a way that is specific to their individual need andinterest. Teen LEED is a progressive culture of leadership andindependence that guides teens through their journey inbecoming better leaders.

Level 1: Teens Who Want to LEAD

Y-Clubs: At the Y we keep youth and teens connected throughsmall interest groups. Teens are offered a wide variety of Y-Clubs that include: chess club, technology club, theater andarts club, hip-hop dance classes, yogo, flag football, andmore. All Y-Clubs meet weekly and provide a safe and nurturing environment so that teens can explore and grow inareas of interest in a casual way.

Friday Night Breakouts: Every month teens have the chanceto simply “hang out” in a positive, safe, and fun environment.Friday Night Breakouts include trips to various places inAtlanta and the Metro Atlanta area. Past trips include: bowling, ice skating, dinner and a movie downtown, sportgames, museums, paint balling, skating, and arcade venuesand more!

Level 2: Teens Taking the LEAD

YMCA Earth Service Corps: YMCA Earth Service Corps (YESC)is a YMCA program, active nationwide, that teaches youngpeople caring, responsibility, honesty, and responsibilitythrough community action and a better understanding ofwhere they live. The program is a teen and community partnership that supports the development of youth-led clubsand provides environmental educational opportunities throughwhich teens can focus on the issues that make their neighborhoods more viable and sustainable. The four maincomponents are leadership training, monthly service-learningprojects, environmental education, and cross cultural experiences and exposure to a multitude of ways to takeeffective action.

After weeks of training led by industry professionals and staff at the Youth and TeenCenter, the students spend time in theirplacements gaining an understanding of theprofession and what it means to have theresponsibility of a full time job/career.

YMCA Educational Support Programs

College TRACK: Here at the Y, we know andunderstand that education is the glue ofstrong, healthy families and neighborhoods.That's why we're working to help close theeducation achievement gap and transformcommunities. Students meet once and weekand are introduced to financial and socialaspects of the college entry process. Thisprogram incorporates guest speakers, campusvisits, tutoring and centered on a frame workthat helps remove the "veil of mystery"regarding higher education.

Academic Tutorial Programming: The highlypersonalized and targeted approach of ouracademic tutoring programs builds the skills,study habits, and determination necessary toexcel in the classroom and beyond. We offerdaily tutorials for all students that build thecore skills and confidence you need for a successful academic journey.

Saturday Learning Academy: Academicinstruction with certified teachers in a nurturing and supportive environment.Curriculum is aligned with Middle and HighSchool focus areas and includes core subjectslike reading comprehension, language arts,mathematics, and social sciences.

Y Leaders Club: In Y Leaders Club, teens receive leadershiptraining and learn the importance of social responsibility andservice to others. Leaders Club meets once a week. Membersalso participate in social events, service projects and have theopportunity to go on several trips. Leaders Club provides asafe, genuine place for middle and high school teens and helpsdirect their energy to positive outcomes.

Young Women's Leadership Academy: Young Women'sLeadership Academy provides opportunities for young womento gain positive life skills and realize their leadership potentialby being exposed to professional women and men that caninspire and encourage them to pursue and achieve theirdreams. In scheduled monthly two-three hour sessions, teensare mentored and engaged in regular project-based activitiesand receive hands-on experience while exploring variouscareer choices and participate in activities that solidify theirleadership, communication, self-esteem and social skills.

Young Men’s Achievers Academy: Y Achievers is a national Yprogram designed to help teens set and pursue high educational and career goals resulting in graduation andacceptance into a post-secondary institute or adoption of avocation. Y Achievers helps teens improve academic performance, develop a positive sense of self, build character,explore diverse college and career options, and interact withprofessionals who serve as role models. Y Achievers is yea -round, enrolling new freshmen each fall. During the schoolyear, students participate in weekly non-school hour sessionsand monthly Saturday Summit and Workshops. Students alsotake part in job shadowing opportunities and college tours.During the summer, eligible rising juniors and seniors are provided the opportunity to work in paid summer internships.

Level 4: YMCA Teen LEADer

International Excursions: The Y Teen International Excursionprogram offers teens a progressive way to learn new anddiverse cultures through service and international awareness.This program allows our teens to participate in new environments where everyone can establish new goals andmemories while having fun and making new connections globally. Core components of International Excursion are teambuilding, leadership development, and philanthropic matriculation.

Teen Internships at the Y: The Youth & Teen Center providesteens with life-changing work experiences at companies andnonprofit organizations. The internship program gives students the opportunity to explore exciting career paths,make new connections, and build a network of professionaladults that they would not have the ability to make on their own.

As a benefit of membership, member’s ages 13 and older may attend asmany group exercise and water aerobics classes as they wish. No registrationrequired! Members ages 9-12 may participate in select group exerciseclasses when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Elite Competitive Cheer ages 5-16: Y EliteAll-stars is a one of a kind, competitivecheer leading program that focuses on competitive cheer skill progression, character and leadership development, andcivic engagement. Elite team members havethe opportunity to pursue cheer leadingwith a passion and purpose that workstowards collegiate cheer leading skill mastery. Tumbling, advance stunting, andmastery of choreography is stronglyemphasized.

Competitive Step Team: Step Team is aprogram designed to create a connectionto the school through participation in astep team. The overall goal of the programis to create an atmosphere of acceptanceand appreciation for diversity and culture.The objectives are for each student toachieve satisfactory academic standing,improve self-esteem, and gain a sense ofbelonging to their Y and community. Inputis sought from participants regardingscheduling of performances, costumedesign, and routines. A great way to develop self-confidence and leadershipskills through team building.

Pike (Beginner I) – Water readiness. In class: will learn toblow bubbles, put face in water and proper kicking, paddling,front and back floats with use of floatation devices.

Eel (Advanced Beginner) – Put face in water float on blackand front w/assistance swim 5 feet without floatation. Inclass: will learn to kick on back, float, swim without assistance15 feet, wet ball and synchronized swimming skills.

Ray (Intermediate/Advanced Skills Required) – Swim withoutfloatation device 15 feet, float on front and back, jump intowater without help. In class: will learn front crawl elementary backstroke, treading water, synchronized swimming skills and we ball activities.

Starfish (Advanced Skills Required) – Tread water, swim 25feet using a modified crawl stroke and swim on back. Inclass: will learn survival float, knelling and sitting dives,boating safety, to coordinate front crawl with rotary breathingand back crawl 25 yards.

Polliwog (Beginner/No Skills Required) – Will be introduced to the front crawl, front and back floats, puttingface in water and personal safety skills.

Guppy (Skills Required) – Blow bubbles, put face in water,float on front and back paddle 15 feet without assistance. Inclass: will learn to tread water, rudimentary 25 yards frontand back crawl, jump into deep end, kneeling dive.

Minnow (Skills Required) – Rudimentary 25 yards front andback crawl, jump in the deep end, tread water for 30 seconds.In class: will build endurance swimming; reinforce fundamentalsof front crawl elementary backstroke and diving. Introductionto breaststroke arm pull. Emphasize rescue & safety skills.

Fish (Skills Required) – Swim 2 lengths each offront crawl and back stroke in good form. Candive in water. In class: Will learn to perform50 yards each: breast stroke, side stroke andopen turns.

Flying Fish (Skills Required) – Swim 2 lengthseach of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke in succession, survival float 7 minutesand tread water for 3 minutes. In class: willlearn bilateral breathing, inverted scissors onside, introduction to butterfly and flip turns.

Shark (Skills Required) – Excellent front andback crawl demonstrates coordination in breaststroke and butterfly swim under water 15yards. In class: will learn first aid techniquesswim 2 lengths of each front and back crawl,breaststroke and butterfly nonstop, lifesavingstrokes and surface dives.

ADULT CLASSES ages 13 years - adult • 45-minutes Beginner – Become comfortable in water, learnbreath control, floating, basic stroke techniques.Intermediate – Comfortable in the water, basicbreath control, able to submerge, some locomotion in water. These lessons consist of instruction whichcan be broken down into six 30- minute lessons, four 45-minute lessons, or three 1-hour lessons. S-cheduled at the convenienceof the student, instructor and pool.
