With the hint of fall in the air and the drastic changes in temperature, our hearts turn

toward the holidays ahead. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas is hot on its trail.

I look forward to the holidays each year because there is just a special feeling in the air. There

seems to be a greater joy of life during this time than any other time of the year.

What causes this joy? I suggest it is because we turn our hearts outward instead of inward. We take time to

think about how blessed we are as individuals, families, churches and communities. We are blessed beyond

measure to live where we live in the world. The hymn writer got it spot on when he said words such as, “Count

your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

As a part of Thanksgiving we have a time of family, as well. This is another reason for joy. Families gather

and share their lives and history together. I am also reminded that we are a family of believers who meet to-

gether weekly or more often. It is special to have a large family. I am one of 10 born to my father and Joyce is

one of 8 born to her mother, so we understand large families. Joyce and I both have lost siblings and all our par-

ents and we know the pain of not having them at holidays. We also know the joy of having had them in the

past. This far out weighs the loss. We also know that when part of the church family is missing, there is pain but

may I suggest there is also joy in memories.

Another part of our Thanksgiving schedule here at the church is our Community Thanksgiving Service. Save

the date of Tuesday October 22nd for the service. We will meet at Brown United Methodist at 7:00 PM..

Hope to see you there.

EUBC CHILDREN”S CORNER

Dear East Union Friends:

Welcome to the Children’s Corner:

Ashlyn Harley Sprinkle - Daughter of Rebecca Edwards

& Charles Sprinkle

Braden Thomas Sheppard - Infant son of Brooklynn &

Thomas Sheppard

This month our theme is about celebrating Thanksgiving

and the food that God provided for the people of Israel

while they were in the wilderness. Preschoolers can

genuinely be thankful for their families, homes and

friends. We encourage them to thank God everyday for

His many blessings. Our early learners will hear Bible

stories and songs. Our younger preschoolers have the

same curriculum as our older preschoolers. It is scaled

down to meet the needs and abilities of their age group,

yet it is also challenging for them.

Theme: Manna & Quail!

Memory Verse: “This is the bread the Lord has given

you to eat.” - Exodus 16:15

Thank you EUBC for allowing us to serve God through

children and their families!

With Love in Christ,

Ms. Sandra

PAGE 6

AWANA We will be gearing up for the holidays during

November. We have two mission projects to com-

plete: (1) Operation Christmas boxes (2) Christmas

angels. I want to thank everyone for helping us in so

many ways to encourage our children to become His

witnesses as they learn His word and DO IT.

Remember, James 1:22.

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and

Christmas. Keep hiding God’s word in your hearts

and stay faithful.

Music Notes from Zack!

Hello Everyone:

As the holiday season approaches, the

music program of EUBC really amps up.

Thanksgiving is coming up and we look

forward to singing songs about thankful-

ness to God. We are in the downward spi-

ral to Christmas when it comes to our

Christmas Cantata and I can’t thank the

choir enough for their hard work. We just

have a few songs to go and it is a very ex-

citing time.

I still want to encourage all church

members to come be a part of the Christ-

mas Cantata. We still have plenty of seats

to fill. We sing through every song we

have already practiced each week.

In addition to the Christmas music, we

will be having a Christmas Choir Party to

focus on the finalization of the Cantata and

to fellowship. We will meet at the church

on December 21 to have a pot luck dinner,

play dirty Santa and practice the Musical.

We encourage all choir members to bring

their spouses but make sure they come

with a gift so they can play the game with

us. I have put a $15 limit on the gifts.

Please bring a gift under or close to that

price.

Again, thanks for all the work you have

done, choir members, and we look forward

to a wonderful celebration of Christmas! Zack

Seniors, come join us at Brooksie’s Barn for an

evening of food and fellowship. Our guest will be

Kevin Hamilton from First Baptist Church, Hum-

boldt. You won’t want to miss this special night!!

Note: We will recognize our veterans this

month. Please turn in the names of those

who are veterans, the branch with which

they served and the dates of service. You

can email this or call this into the EUBC

office. 424-2261 or email

A Thanksgiving Activity!

Why not take time during this season to

make a list of all your blessings?

Each time you have a family meal go

around the table and ask each family member

to share one blessing. Each time you do this,

remind the family members to choose a dif-

ferent blessing. Write these down and at your

Thanksgiving meal have one of the family

members read off the list.

This is a great time to express thanks to God!

Our blessings are too many to number, for

sure, but this simple activity can help rein-

force a thankful heart and remind your family

members about just what that means.

In this very self consumed world, we must

be faithful to thank God daily for His

blessings to us and to share this with others.

What have you thanked our Father for today?

I Thes. 5: 18 “In everything give thanks; for

this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for

you!”

Thank you God not for ……..!

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”

Psalm 95:2

“What do you have to be thankful for today?” I asked my 4 year old daughter, Becca.

“Not for worms”, was her reply.

Often we concentrate more on what we aren’t thankful for than on what we have to be thankful for. This time of year is a great time to focus on our blessings.

Even in the midst of the most maddening or challenging events, we can be thankful for the presence of God and the knowledge that He loves and cares for us!

Publishing deadlines: If you have information to put in the Vineyard (bulletin), the office must receive the in-formation by Wednesday afternoon. If you have informa-tion to put in the Grapevine, the office must receive the information on or before the 22th of the month.
