Mass Intentions The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic tradition. At Gesu, there are many requests for scheduling such Mass intentions. As a way to allow as many parishioners and friends as possible to schedule Masses, the following guidelines are put forth to help accomplish this goal.Guidelines for Mass Intentions: • Only one Mass per month may be requested for the same intention (person). • Specific dates cannot be reserved in advance for future years. Dates can only be arranged when the Mass book opens for the following year. • The offering is $10 per Mass. This is accepted at the time you arrange a specific intention and not in advance. Masses can be said at Gesu, Honduras or Colombiere (The Jesuit Retirement Community). The Mass Intention book is now open for 2018. If you would like a Mass said, please come to the parish office during office hours, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday and we would be happy to assist you.

Did You Know? We do have a wheelchair available in church for anyone who may need it while here at Mass. It is located in the “bride’s room.” Simply ask an usher for any assistance.

We Would Love to Have You as Parishioners! If you are new to the area, or just haven’t gotten around to it, we invite you to register as full members of the Gesu community. Simply call the parish office at (216) 932-0617 and someone can set up a time to meet and register you! If you have grown up in the parish and are now 23 (or older), we encourage you to register as an adult and not merely as children of parishioners.

Note Special Mass Schedule Each year in early June, the Jesuits gather for Province Days with their fellow Jesuits culminating in the celebration of Ordination. Unique to this year is the official merging of the Chicago-Detroit Province and the Wisconsin Province into what will now be called the Midwest Province. Almost all the Jesuits who live and work in the Greater Cleveland area will be in Milwaukee for this important gathering. Consequently, please note that there will be a change to the Mass schedule for a few days. On Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2, there will be only one morning liturgy at 8:30 am. On Saturday, June 3, we will not have Confessions at 3:00 pm, but the 4:30 pm Mass will be celebrated as usual.

New Servers You may notic e some ‘extra’ altar servers at Masses. We are pleased that students in 5th & 6th grades at Gesu School and in PSR are completing their two required observations by shadowin g regular server s . Several have completed this process and will soon be serving regularly. We are grateful for them and all of our servers.

In the Jesuit Tradition In these remaining weeks of the Easter season, we continue to savor the joy of Christ’s Resurrection. Consider that we need joy, where we find that joy, and who or what brings us joy. Do you see signs of God’s presence, of H is consolation? Are your eyes and ears trained to realize where God is active? In Week #28 of The Spiritual Exercises, St. Ignatius urges us to reflect on the various ‘dyings’ in our lives: losses, major life changes, etc., and through these human experiences, to let God reveal himself as a God of life. Our realiza-tion of truth and our openness to God’s presence can elicit a response in our hearts and spirits that will lead us to a deeper relationship with our loving Lord. We lis-ten with our hearts. We come to the Father responding to Jesus’ words: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

WUJA Congress at John Carroll The World Union of Jesuit Alumni (WUJA), founded in 1956, holds an international Congress every four years to gather Jesuit friends and alumni—from as many as 50 countries representing a global network of Jesuit ministries-to build international networks and affirm Jesuit centric values for a greater good. From June 28-July 2, WUJA will meet for the first time ever in North America, at John Carroll University. The congress features addresses from the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, via live-feed and will also gather renowned, world-class speak-ers such as Fr. Tim Kesicki, SJ, Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ, and Chris Lowney. Attendees, made up of alumni and friends of Jesuit institutions from across the globe, will enjoy countless opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate. For regis-tration and info, visit www.wujacongress2017.org.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known

that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought

thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee I do come, before thee I stand,

sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but they

mercy hear and answer me.

Amen
