It always makes me smile when I see the children so excited and enthusiastic about their learning. Their faces as they leave the school with such expectations say it all. Thank you to all the parent helpers who have given their time this term too. You know it has been a great trip as the children are exhausted but bursting with excitement to share their day with you. Year 6 finish off the trips this term with a trip to Cadbury World next Thursday, the last day of term. Who knows, when they are away there may be a few chocolate eggs to find in the school grounds for the children? As we learn about the British tradition of Easter, Easter eggs and rabbits, I wonder when the school rabbits will arrive at Wilberforce? Will it be before Ramadan? Have a great weekend. Yours sincerely, Mrs Sheppard GOVERNORS’ GUIDANCE Reflecting back on this term’s progress is a real delight as we read the Principal’s report and prepare the questions for the school leadership team to answer. We can see that British values are being taught when we look at the displays around the school and see the wide range of activities the children experience at school. The new tracking system seems to have made a huge impact on senior leaders and we are confident that the system will allow us to challenge progress and attainment for any group within the school. There is no doubt this has been a very busy term but we can see happy and contented children coming into school, a growing community and staff enjoying working at the school. The progress in six months has been rapid so thank you to everyone involved. Please contact us via the school if ever there is anything you wish to discuss. Our next meeting is on 1 st April 2015. WILL RECEPTION DOWLAND SCORE A HAT-TRICK OF EARLY BIRDS? Reception Dowland have done it

again. For the second week in a row (between 16th and 20th March 2015), every child in Reception Dowland was on time for school each day and therefore received their 2nd Early Bird. Good luck Dowland and a huge well done to Year 3 Lloyd Webber as they too were awarded an Early Bird for their class.

Nursery: "There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!"- or is

there? The nursery children have been learning about

the story and characters from the book. On our story

telling table the children have been using the props to

sequence and retell the story. Please join your

children next week for a Gruffalo story walk for the

Grand finale of our topic. Invitations will be with you

shortly.

Where would you like to live in a tree top house or a log pile house?

Reception: This week in Reception we have been

reading The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We have

created our own story-maps and thought of actions to

retell the story. We made Gruffalo masks in Art.

Who is the Gruffalo?

Year 1: This week in Year 1, we went on a trip in to

Trafalgar square to view Nelson’s Column and the new sculpture on display on the Fourth Plinth; Gift Horse by Hans Haacke. We walked down the Mall to Buckingham Palace to see where the Queen lived and got to view the wildlife in St. James’ Park.

What happened at the Battle of Trafalgar?

Year 2: In Literacy we have been learning

instructions and how adverbs of time help to organise

instructions. In Numeracy we have been using tally

charts and Carroll diagrams to organise data. In

Science, we have been using lemon juice to write

secret messages.

Should we always have someone or something to tell us what to do?

Year 3: This week in Year 3, we have been practising

and learning how to perform a poem about the water

cycle, as well as the properties of different rocks.

Can you describe the difference between chalk and slate?

Year 4: In Year 4 this week we have been preparing

to write newspaper articles on the death of Anne

Boleyn. We have been doing mental addition and

subtraction in Numeracy.

Why was Anne Boleyn beheaded?

Year 5: On Thursday, we went to the Science

Museum and saw lots of exciting things. We watched

a 3D film called Hidden Universe which gave us a

visual insight into the mysteries of the cosmos.

What was the best part of the Science Museum?

Year 6: Year 6 have been busily revising reading

strategies and shape and translation skills in maths in

preparation for the next round of assessments. To

celebrate a huge term of Victorian exploration, we are

very excited to be heading to Cadbury World in

Birmingham next week! The boys also now have the

opportunity to take part in a lunchtime Break dancing

club.

To whom are we eternally grateful for bringing the mass production of chocolate to Britain?
