Green Energy lien earlier this month, an industrial con- struction company in the Lower main- land, TVe Industrial services Ltd., filed a civil claim in BC supreme Court, a builder’s lien for nearly $9.5 million for construction work on the biomass facility. It names the defendants as: Fse energy, Iverdrola energy Projects Canada Corp, merritt Green energy LP, merritt Green energy General Partner Ltd., Avanlee Farm Ltd., Best Coast real estate Inc., City of merritt, Nicola Valley rodeo Assoc., Nicola Valley Fair Assoc., Tolko Industries Ltd., Fort st. James Green energy LP, & Fort st. James Green energy GP Ltd. This comes on the heels of the news of the bankruptcy of the boiler contractor also named in the lien; the closing of Tolko merritt, its primary fuel supplier; and rumours of substandard gas fittings, and more recently, burst water lines. Currently, the stop-work order issued in November remains in effect. A few seats left… for ‘Come Read With Me’ Parents and children will convene at this evening at the Civic Ctre, 5:30 -7pm. Children will pick out their free book, then move to an activity room filled with literacy focused fun & games, while their parents learn about fluency strategies to support their young readers at home. For the final 15 minutes, children will join their parents with their new book to practice. Come Read With Me facilitator Fiona Clare is a former teacher, and has been the Literacy outreach Coordinator in Kamloops for 6 years. she has trained volunteers for the One to One Reading program for the past 19 years. In re- sponse to overwhelming interest from parents who wanted to learn how to best support their own children & reading at home, she started Come Read with Me workshops. “These workshops target parents with children in grade 1 but are helpful for any parent who is struggling with at-home reading,” says Clare. “Feedback is over- whelmingly positive. Parents are grateful to learn these simple tips to make home reading fun and more successful for their children. If we want children to become lifelong readers, we have to make sure that their first experiences with reading are painless enough so they will want to do it again and again,” says Clare.
