Jim’s Spin on Cycling, Culture, and Cuisine

We’re thrilled to announce our 2018season, offering some of the most captivating cycling on either side of theAtlantic. After designing and operatingbiking adventures for 3+ decades, I stillmarvel at the synergy that happens on ourcycling tours: fun-loving travelers andgreat cycling routes, culture and curiosity, exceptional cuisine made even morememorable by exercise and fresh air…Like the magical melding of flavors in a Spanish paella, the perfect bike trip requires the perfect balance of ingredients. When it’s right, the sensationis…Well, let’s just say you’ll have to come experience it for yourself!

Take the roads less traveledOn our off-the-beaten-path routes, you’ll pedalback roads and byways you might never have discovered on your own. Each road we travel hasbeen carefully chosen for its regional “flavor,” scenic beauty, and low traffic. Cycling days average30 to 45 miles, with a choice of route options thatlet you make each day as relaxing or as challeng-ing as you want it to be. With our detailed mapsand written directions, you’re completely free topedal at your own pace. Shorter riding days or lay-over days are planned for those destinationswhere you’ll want extra time off your bike to ex-plore.

Think globally, eat locallyExperienced travelers know that one of the mostenjoyable ways to get to know a country isthrough its food! We celebrate each day’s adventures with the very best of regional cuisine. On our culinary detours, you’ll sample artisanalcheeses in County Cork, sip vinho verde at a Portuguese winery, and learn about olive oil production in Andalucía. Our restaurant selectionincludes an eclectic mix of well-known establish-ments as well as a few of our own serendipitousdiscoveries. You’ll also enjoy home-cooked feastsat several of our inns, gourmet picnic lunches, andsubstantial breakfasts each morning.

Sleep in styleOur lodgings are chosen not only for their numberof stars or mentions in guidebooks (many aren’t!),but also because they capture the authenticity, history, and character of the places we visit. Oftenwe stay in one-of-a-kind manor houses, castles, and country inns that are just large enough to accommodate our groups. You’ll dream the nightaway in such legendary lodgings as LisloughreyLodge in Ireland and the majestic Pousada Flor daRosa in Portugal’s Alentejo region. On occasion, wemay stay in a simpler inn in order not to miss outon an especially beautiful route. Whether you findyourself enjoying warm Maritime hospitality in acozy country B&B or surrounded by Spanish splen-dor at the magnificent Parador in Santiago, yourday will always end with a gracious combinationof Old World charm and modern comfort.

Travel with friendsA friendly ambiance and lots of laughter are thestatus quo on our tours. We limit our groups to afriendly size of sixteen guests. Our tours attracthigh-spirited cyclists of all ages, with a congenialmix of singles, couples, and occasionally families.Children as young as twelve years old are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent.

See the sightsEvery Easy Rider itinerary is designed to give you a real sense of place. Age-old traditions come tolife as you bike through Portugal’s wine countryduring the grape harvest or mingle with fellowperegrinos along the Camino de Santiago in Galicia. You’ll climb the 600 steps of SkelligMichael in County Kerry, and hark back to simplertimes at Hancock Shaker Village in the Berkshires.A flamenco performance in Andalucía, a schoonercruise in Nova Scotia, and a spirited music seisiunin an Irish pub are all part of your Easy Rider vaca-tion.

Meet the localsIf travel is a banquet of experiences, it’s the peopleyou meet that add the spice. From bartering at aPortuguese market to bantering in an Irish pub, you’ll always be part of the local scene. You’ll meetour special friends too—naturalists, storytellers, musicians, vintners, historians, even a theater director—who return year after year to share theirknowledge, skills, and expertise with our groups.

Follow the leadersWe consider our international team of European,Canadian, and American tour guides to be EasyRider Tours’ biggest asset! Their expertise, enthusiasm, flexibility, and humor ensure thateach tour moves smoothly, both on and off theroad. Each tour is accompanied by two guides. On European tours, at least one leader is a nativeIrish, Portuguese, or Spanish guide, whose insight into local culture and customs adds a unique dimension to your vacation experience. Our guides are multilingual, trained in first aid for both people and bicycles, and average twelve

years of experience as Easy Rider leaders.

Ride on!All trip prices include the use of a top-quality bike for the duration of the tour.
