The year 2005 represents a significant milestone forLENCO Racing lransmissions. We celebrate thirty-fiveyears of engineering and manufacturing of the mostsuccessful drag racing transmissions ever built.Naturally we could not have achieved this accomplish-ment without our loyal and dedicated customers. Weare indebted to all of the racers and teams who not onlyhave chosen to rely on our transmissions, but who havealso contributed ideas and suggestions to make ourproducts even better. So, our hat is off to you for help-ing make LENCO the alltime champion andundisputed leader in the drag racing arena.

Leonard Abbott started the company in 1970 withhis introduction of the Sure-Shift two-speed.Subsequent years have seen the evolution tothree-, four-, five-, and six-speed LENCO RacingIransmissions. We have added the ST1200Street-Strip model as well as the LENCODRIVEtorque converter driven transmission.

We offer a transmission for almost everyone with morethan fifty combinations plus reverse units, gear reduc-ers, boat clutches and boat transmissions.

ln general, all LENCO transmis-sions are a planetary design.Planetary transmissions rely ona central sun gear to provide a1:1 direct drive ratio onceshifted from the launch ratio.

In order to achieve an under-drive first gear ratio the LETVCO

transmission relys on planetgears which rotate around thepreviously mentioned sun gear.Each sun and planet gearsetrepresents two speeds. Thosetwo speeds are (1) the lowerunderdrive ratio and (2) thedirect'1:1 final lock-up driveratio.

Each LETVCO transmissionis thus a two-speed and ishoused in its single dedicatedcase.

We achieve more than twospeeds by assembly of multiplecases. For example, a three-speed requires two cases, a

four-speed requires three cases,a five-speed requires four casesand a six-speed requires fivecases. In all instances you willrequire a LENCO reverse unit toachieve reverse movement.

Since each case contains onegearset and provides bothunderdrive and direct drive,multiple cases provide multipleunderdrive ratios.

You must multiply each case'sunderdrive ratio in order to deter-mine the first gear ratio. In theexample of a four-speed, thecase nearest the engine wouldcontain a 1.37 ratio planet gearset. The middle case would alsocontain a 1.37 planet gear set.The rear case a 1.31 ratio gearset.

By multiplying these three ratiosyou come up with a 2.46 firstgear ratio. Second gear ratio is1.80 and third gear is a 1 .31

ratio. Final drive ratio is 1:1.

The internal action of aLENCO is such that whenthe transmission is in firstgear the chosen planet gearassembly provides thelaunch ratio. The planetgears are driven by anencompassrng flng gear.When the transmission is

shifted a clutch pack com-presses the rotating sun gearassembly to the direct drivecentral sun gear. Thus a 1:1

ratio is achieved.

Each case in succession.with its dedicatedunderdrive ratio, determinesthe immediate drive ratio.Once all cases have beenshifted the entire transmis-sion assembly is locked inthe final 1:1 direct drive ratio.

With the extensive number ofratios we offer it is possibleto choose from over 7,000first gear combinations in thecase of a four-speed forexample.

It is not necessary for thedriver to disengage the clutchwhen shifting from ratio toratio. All shifting is done withthe engine's clutch engaged.

GS2 - GS3 l\lew GenerationThe CS2 and CS3 New GenerationLENCO racing transmission is asmaller, lighter and more compactversion of our CS1 StandardDesign. Smaller diameter andshorter length make this transmis-sion a practical choice for use inrestricted confines and instanceswhen you have limited distancefrom the engine to the rear end.

The CS2 handles up to 3000 HPand CS3 1800 HP. Both transmis-sions are available in 2,3, 4 or 5speeds. Magnesium cases are usedfor both the CS2 and CS3.

Competition Eliminator, Super class-es, Top Dragster and Pro Stock carsare typical classes where you willfind the New Generation LENCO.As with the CS1 Standard Design,the New Generation CS2 and CS3can be shifted by lever or our CO2system.Seepages 6 through 9for complete description

STI2OO Sfreet StripThe TENCO ST1200 is the answerfor Pro Street and streeVstrip appli-cations. This transmission can beused to drive your hot rod to workMonday through Friday and then tothe dragstrip and the winner'scircle on weekends. The ST1200 isthe same engineering design as theall-out-race New Generation CS2but with a couple of minor differ-ences. One variation is that theST1200 uses budget-friendly 8620alloy for the gears instead of themore expensive 9310 material. TheST1200 also utilizes aircraft qualitybearings where the pure-race CS2uses aerospace spec components.The result is LENCO quality anddurability at a reasonable "StreetMachine" orice. S dard DesignThe CS1 Standard Design LENCO is the largest and strongesttransmission we build. All Standard Design LENCO transmissionsare referred to as the CSI style. Likewise, New GenerationLENCOs (pages 6 and 8) are referred to as CS2 and CS3 styles.

Our CS1 StandAfd_DeSLgn transmissions are available with up tofour forward speeds plus reverse and can be either CO2 or manual-lyshifted. We use 9310 steel 1" planetgears which can control upto 3500 HP. As with all of our transmission designs we offer a vari-ety of lightening procedures for the rotating components. A castmagnesium case is standard.

As with all LEA/CO transmissions the CS1 is based on individual2-speed planetary units with multiple speeds being achievedthrough utilization of multiple 2-speed units.

32 or 40 spline reverse units for direct drive appli-cations. Mates to bellhousing or clutch manage-ment system. In some cases we can supply a neu-tral position configuration. We also manufacture analuminum bellhousing adapter plate. Additionally,we produce a gearset eliminator kit that allows youto apply power directly through your existingLENCO case. The gearset is replaced by a couplerthat connects the existing input and intermediateshaft.

New denerationThe New Generation LENCO transmission is a smaller, lighter versionthat has evolved from our Standard CSI Design. The CS2 is essentiallyidentical to the CSl with the exception of utilizing 3/4" gears as opposedto the CSl's 1" gear design. The more compact CS2 provides ease of fitin tight spaces with no compromise to traditional LENCO strength andreliability. There are two styles of the New Generation LENCO -theCS2 and CS3. These two facing pages show the mid-sized CS2.Pages 8 and 9 show the even smaller CS3.

The CS2 LENCO is available with up to 5 forward speeds plus reverse.We offer a variety of lightening procedures for internal rotating massand suggest you call and discuss your exact application and require-ments. All of our transmissions are purpose built and there is no "Off theshelf, one size fits all" LENCO. As with all LENCO transmissions the CS2may be shifted with CO2 or manually. titanium planet cases - and suggest you call to discuss yourspecific application and objectives. These lightening opera-tions are available as special order. A Low-Drag reverse isalso an option to the standard reverse unit.

SJreeThe LENCO ST1200 transmission has beenspecifically designed and engineered for severeduty street/strip applications.

The ST1200 gives you the advantage of LENCObrute strength at a lesser price than our full raceunits. The ST1200 is pure LENCO through andthrough and is ideally suited for nitrous, blown,injected and carbureted engines producing up to1200 HP and 900 lb. ft. of toroue.

As with all LETVCO transmissions the ST1200 is aplanetary design and comes with up to 6 forwardspeeds. Shift with either our patented multi leversystem or with the optional, more compact CO2setup.

Multiple speeds are achieved through utilization ofmultiple cases. See page 2for an overview expla-nation of how a LENCO transmission works.

The ST1200 is available with all popularbellhousing patterns - Ford, GM, MoPar and ourown five-bolt design. You choose any conventionalinput shaft spline.

We are able to offer the ST1200 StreetStrip atlower cost than our pure race CS1, CS2 and CS3designs since we use 8620 steel instead of 9310material for the ST1200 gears. 8620 is a premiumquality material that will provide excellent servicefor 1200 HP hot rods. 9310 steel would be usedin Pro Stock, Pro Mod and other similar applica-tions where substantially more HP, torque and tireplant is generated. We supply premium gradebearings in the ST1200 instead of the much moreexpensive aerospace:spec bearings as used inour race transmis ST120aluminumcasesi emagrace units.

The LENCODRIVE transmission represents ourresponse to people who have asked for a safe andaffordable torq ue converter d riven tra nsmission.

The LENCODRIVE is pure LENCO throughand through with the same gearset components asour CS2 (page 6). The LENCODR/VE is availablewith your choice of all popular bellhousing patternsas well as any starter pocket positioning. TheLENCODRIVE will accept virtually any manufactur-er's torque converter. We offer Turbo 400, C6,Mega (1 114" X 29 spline) and standard Powerglidesize input shafts per your requirements. TheLENCODR/VE's trans-brake is controlled by anelectric solenoid which activates hydraulic compres-sion of a dedicated clutch pack. Additionally, theLENCODRIVE's main valve body is machined frombillet components and is not the typically modifiedOEM Detroit component.

The LETVCODRIVE is the shortest and lightesttorque converter driven transmission available any-where. The LENCODRIVE comes as a 2-speed withreverse. You can expand to 3- or 4-speeds by addi-tion of additional cases for each speed (add 6.25"length for each added section). The 2-speed,including reverse, bellhousing and lining weighsapproximately 108 lbs. The 3-speed is approximate-ly 135 lbs. All cases are magnesium.

The LETVCODRIVE does not require a containmentblanket unless you use a supercharger or alternativefuels.

Boat clutchesThe LEA/CO Boat Clutch has evolved throughyears of racing and increased horsepowerranges. We now offer three different styles for avariety of applications. The most popular unitfor River Racer through Top Alcohol Hydroclasses is the 15 blue-disc unit and is good forpower ranges up to 3000 HP. Our large 16green-disc unit for ranges above 3000 HP. CO2 configuration or Vice versa. No alter-ations to the transmission, other than theexternal operating system itself, are required.

A LEIVCO launch ratio is determined bythe sun and planet gear ratio (see page 2).

In all instances the transmission is thenshifted to a 1:1 direct drive ratio bydepression of the adjustable shift towerplunger. This action compresses an internalclutch pack which results in a final driveratio of 1:1. Remember that each separatecase contains its own gear-seVratio and whenconnected to additional cases multiple ratiosare realized. The shifting processremoves multiplication factors andsubsequently results in all gear-sets, after thefinal shift, being locked to a 1:1 ratio.

Shift pressure is adjustable, whetherit be for one case, all cases or anindividual case in a multiple caseconfiguration. This pressure adjustabilitygives you considerable control when finetuning your available power applicationto specific track conditions. lf the first300 feet of track is excellent, for instance,full shift pressure and instant lock-up maybe desired. lf, however, the trackis loose from 300'through 500'you can soften the shift pressure tomaintain desired wheel speed andtraction. Every track differs from dayto day or hour to hour. With a simpleshift pressure adjustment you can easilycompensate and control slippage. This is notpossible with a traditional clustergear transmission.

Existing LENCO equipment provides a severe dutyefficient link between your power source and theend use machinery. Since our transmissions, safetyclutches and gear reduction units can handle up to3500 HP and up to 2500 lb. ft. of torque the range ofapplications is extensive.

Our thirty-five year history has given us the opportu-nity to solve power transmission problems for agreat many customers. Though we have mostlyconcentrated on auto and boat racing as well astractor pulling, we have also fulfilled an impressivenumber of industrial needs. From missile trans-portation platforms for NASA to dynamometer basedtransmissions for General Motors Corporation, wehave successfully contributed the design andproduction expertise to resolve some very uniqueissues. Likewise, in the commercial agriculturalarena, LENCO know-how has been called upon toexpand the efficiency of farm equipment machinesincluding a grain hopper with a unique two-speedauger application.

We provide an extensive array of machiningservices which include milling, turning, gear cuttingand broaching. Our master machinists are thefinest craftsmen and consistently perform to thehighest level of professionalism. Our state-ofthe-art equipment includes Mori Seki and OkumaCNC lathes. The milling department offers a broad assortmentof services and relies on a four-axis CNC machineto machine parts up to 30" diameter. We provideboth vertical and horizontal procedures
