Changes & Trends

• “42% of IT managers say they will run out of capacity in their

Data Centres in the next 12-24 months.” – Uptime Institute

• “The demand for processing power is starting to outstrip out

ability to cost effectively power it.” – Baseline magazine

• Power consumption is approaching 50% of Data Centre

operating costs

• Utility rate rises and other costs

• Both business cost and environmental issues

Changes & Trends

High Density Servers

• Increase in power needed for new systems

• Increased need to monitor power distribution

• Increased heat generated by new systems

• Increased need to monitor what is happening in the rack

Equipment Monitoring and Control

• Equipment is getting hotter and smaller

• Increased capacity & increased heat

load

• Less open space for air circulation

• Reduced airflow in floor and room

spaces

• Cost of equipment downtime increasing

• Heat load projected to double in <10

years

60% Of Hardware Downtime Is Heat Related

Reliable Power Distribution

• Data Centre’s demand 99.999% reliability

• Measure – Understand – Act

• Data Centre reliability can only be as good as the

weakest link in the power chain

Flexibility and Expansion

Utility Power and Power Distribution

• Data Centre's need sufficient power supply for tomorrow

• Power can potentially inhibit expansion

• Need insight into your current systems

• Modular and upgradeable systems

Global Environmental Issues

• Environmental as well as business impact of

increased power demands

• The need for increased efficiency

• Measure – Understand – Act

• Eaton Powerware products give control and insight

into the systems

• Enable the Data Centre Manager to make ‘green’

choices

Environmental Monitoring

Why is it needed?

• Increasing rack power density

• Heat rise in the cabinet on fan failure is fast and localized

•Provides the Data Centre Manager with the ability to monitor environmental variables at a granular level and take rapid corrective actions

What is the Rack Monitor?

• Zero U device to monitor environmental variables inside a rack or enclosure in a server room or a data center

• Can monitor variables like

• Temperature

• Humidity

• Presence of smoke

• Presence of water (leaks)

• Intrusion of enclosures (door opening/closing)

• Vibration or shock (for security)

• In fact, any sensor with open/close contact closures

Optional Sensors

Connect up to two Humidity, two Temperature and four input contact

sensors per rack monitor for a very cost effective per-rack solution

Power Distribution

Enclosure Power Distribution

• Enclosure based Power Distribution Units

• Designed specifically for the IT Data Centre environment

• Provide an understanding of power distribution in the rack

• High density configurations

• Certified components

• Fault tolerant engineering

Vertical units for the 0U Rack spaceHorizontal units for the 19” Rack space

Flexible Power Distribution

• Socket types: UK, Schuko,

French, Nema, C13, C19

• Flexible power distribution

• Up to 3 different types of outlets

available on the same 0U ePDU

• Extruded Aluminium chassis

• Multiple mounting options as

standard

Understand your Power Distribution

• Technologies: Basic – Metered – Monitored – Managed

Understand - Metered Power

• Easy read digital ammeter

• Each ammeter monitors a single circuit

• Monitor power consumption locally

Understand - Monitored Power

• Easy-read digital ammeter

with up to 8 circuits

• Manual or auto scrolling

through circuits

• Monitor power consumption

over Ethernet

Understand - Managed Power

• Manage power consumption

• Manage efficiency • Monitor and control individual outlets

• Individual outlet switching

• User defined sequencing of outlets

• Accurate load balancing

Efficient, Modular UPS

Powerware BladeUPS

BladeUPS – UPS Flexibility

Compact - more power in less space

• 12 kW modules occupy 6U of standard rack space, including the batteries

• Combine modules in building block fashion to deliver 60 kW of redundant backup power in one rack enclosure

Scalable - easily deploy and expand

• Flexible – numerous configurations

• The solution can grow with expanding IT needs

• BladeUPS offers a fully redundant architecture, as opposed to simply adding power modules to increase capacity

BladeUPS – UPS Efficiency

Efficiency - Reduce cooling costs

• unparalleled efficiency results in cooler operating conditions and less heat dissipation

• Overall air conditioning requirements reduce by more than one-third

• BladeUPS can be located close to equipment racks without creating hot spots

Efficiency - Reduce energy costs

• BladeUPS delivers an industry-leading 97% efficiency

• BladeUPS will quickly pay for itself through energy and cooling savings alone

• On average, a user will save more than €20,000 over a five-year period, coupled with increased reliability and performance on a 60 kVA N+1 configuration

• System flexibility- buy only the power you need; but even more, deploy systems as stand alone 12kW UPS’s, then parallel up to 60kW, then if needed, redeploy as single systems.

BladeUPS Flexibility

BladeUPS Scalability

Scalable from 12kW to 60kW (N+1) in a 19” Rack

• 12 KW Building blocks deployed in numerous configurations

• Only the power you need; but even more, deploy systems as stand alone 12kW UPS’s,

• Parallel up to 60kW, then if needed, redeploy as single systems.

• Proprietary outlet with breaker-

• BladeUPS the only system on the market with scalable UPS and monitored power distribution at the same time.
