This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 681137. The sole responsibility for the content of this project lies with the authors. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the European Union. The European Commission is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information contained therein.

After the success of ‘The Development of an HIV Vaccine in Photos’ exhibition held in Hospital Clínic, Barcelona, we’re thrilled to announce that the exhibition will now be displayed by our Partner institute INSERM (CIMI-Paris).

The exhibition commenced on Wednesday 2nd May 2018 in the Main Hall, 105 Boulevard de L’Hôpital, Paris, part of Sorbonne Université.

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the collaborative research effort of the EAVI2020 Consortium in their pursuit of an effective HIV vaccine.

From July, the exhibition will be displayed by our project Partner Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA) in Paris. We hope to be able to display the exhibition throughout Europe over the next 3 years as part of the project’s public engagement plan.

The EAVI2020 consortium, which is led by Imperial College London, unites scientists from 22 institutions, pooling their knowledge and expertise to develop novel candidate vaccines that can be taken through to human trials within five years. EAVI2020 is funded with an EU-grant under the health program of Horizon 2020 for research and innovation.

The 5th PhD Training Course Takes Place in Paris, France

The 5th PhD training course on 'Advanced Animal Models and Vaccination' was held on April 8th - 11th 2018 at IDMIT–CEA in Paris, France.

Discussions were focused around animal experimentation, vaccines and in vivo imaging in animal models . The coordinators and students were given the opportunity to visit the animal facility. It was a great learning experience for all involved to better understand the operations of an animal facility where animal experimentations take place and the ethical implications related to animal manipulation.

Students are invited to attend the course as part of EAVI2020's Education Training program. For further information please contact: Joan Joseph of Hospital Clínic Barcelona - [email protected]

Assistant Professor Marit van Gils featured on “De Buitendienst"

The Academic Medical Center (AMC) houses the university hospital and the medical faculty of the University of Amsterdam, as well as several research institutes. A number of biotech companies – partly AMC spin-offs – are also located on the premises. This concentration of expertise provides a breeding ground for fruitful scientific collaboration. Infectious Diseases represents one of the major topics of clinical, applied and basic research at the AMC, integrated in a multidisciplinary fashion at the Center for Infection and Immunity AMC (CINIMA).

Professor Rogier Sanders (Principal Investigator) and Assistant Professor Marit van Gils of AMC were recently featured in a children’s program broadcast on Dutch national television. “De Buitendienst” is an educational program aimed at children aged 9-12. The episode explored issues and interactive discussions on “how to defeat a virus”. You can watch the full video in Dutch here.

We would also like to congratulate Marit, who has been awarded the prestigious AMC Fellowship which will enable her to set up a research group at the AMC. The €750,000 AMC Fellowship spans a five-year period, with an interim evaluation after three years. The Fellowship also means that Marit has now entered the tenure track with the possibility to acquire a tenured position after 5 years. Marit will focus on the underlying immunology behind vaccination, in particular, the elicitation of antibody responses by vaccines to guide the design of novel or improved immunogens.
