Descriptive Annex

1 INTRODUCTION

This family of automatic weighing instruments, designated the HSC350, comprises instruments operating as automatic checkweighers (Category X) and/or weigh or weigh-price labellers (Category Y).

The instruments comprise a cabinet, user interface, weighing device, mechanical handling facilities, reject device and/or labeller. The instruments are designed to weigh packs dynamically. Pricing, pack and labelling information are stored in files called PLUs selectable by the operator for the commodity or labels being processed. Labels are printed for the above transaction data and are applied to the packs automatically. 2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

2.1 Mechanical

2.1.1 The instrument (Figure 1) is constructed in stainless steel. The framework is

a fabricated floor standing stainless steel frame on adjustable feet. On the frame are

mounted the modular conveyor and the conveyors type, number, size and shape are

not restricted. The conveyor can be equipped with one of a number of reject devices,

including a flipper, drop flap, ram or air blast (Category X), and/or thermal label printers

(Category Y). The instrument is designed to be permanently installed. 2.1.2 The control cabinet is located behind of the instrument, houses the electrical hardware. A PL30 weighing indicator console, mounted above the control cabinet contains the keyboard and displays. Photocells mounted on frame are used for pack detection. The photocells may also be direct reading, reflex or laser type. 2.1.3 Weigh platform unit 2.1.3.1 The weighing device comprises a strain gauge load cell located below the centre of the weigh conveyor. The load cell type may be as follows: HBM SP4M C3MR, HBM PW6D C3MR, HBM PW2D C3MR or HBM PW16A C3MR, capacity according to section 3.1 of this certificate.

Any compatible load cell may be used providing the following conditions are met:

There is a respective OIML Certificate of Conformity (R60) or a parts/test certificate (EN45501) issued for the load cell by a Notified Body responsible for type examination under Directive 2009/23/EEC.

The certificate contains the load cell types and the necessary load cell data required for the manufacturer’s declaration of compatibility of modules (WELMEC 2, Issue 6, 2014, No 10), and any particular installation requirements. A load cell marked NH is allowed only if humidity testing to EN45501 has been conducted on this load cell.

It is not a load cell with digital output

The characteristics of the replacement load cell such as nlc, Y, Z are the same or better than the load cell tested dynamically (HBM SP4M C3MR, capacity 7 kg)

Page 3: EC type-examination certificate UK/0126/0115 Revision 2

The design of the load cells and the material are the same

No oil damper is used 2.1.3.2 Packs are weighed as they pass over the weigh head conveyor which runs continuously at the speed of the in-feed and out-feed conveyors. 2.2 Electrical 2.2.1 The s t a i n l e s s s t e e l control cabinet is accessible through a door on the rear; and comprises the circuit breakers, power supplies, motor drive cards and appropriate input/output modules for external electrical interfaces such as the out- feed mechanisms, label applicator and external peripherals. 2.2.3 The PL30 indicator (Figure 2) is mounted on top of the cabinet. The PL30 includes an LED display, an LCD display, functions and alphanumerical keypads, ON/OFF switches for the conveyors and an integrated printer, as well as the load cell module, filters, and related I/O section. The display is segregated in distinct areas, and allows viewing of the weighing parameters and results as well as access to the various functions. 2.2.4 The weighing indicator PL30 is fitted with a load cell module type PL555A, which is directly connected to the load cell with a 6-wire cable and reads and digitises the analogue load cell signal with a 16bit ADC type TI. The CPU reads this digital value and performs digital filtering and processing of the signal to produce the individual pack weight. 2.3 Devices

2.3.1 The instrument has the following devices:

Automatic zero setting device active during automatic operation (active if no zero has occurred after 22 min)

Zero tracking Semi-automatic zero-setting (≤ 4% max) Initial zero-setting (≤ 20% max) Pre-set tare device (subtractive) Static calibration, not accessible to the user Belt speed setting, accessible to the user (access password protected level 1) Printing of batch results (Category X) Screen check at power-up High resolution mode (0.1e) for testing purposes Parameter to select operation in Category X or Y at initial verification

(protected parameter) Parameter to select operation in Category X or Y by the user in normal

operation if the above parameter is set to X and Y

3.3 Software

3.3.1 The software is designated WS30.version 07.XX.XX where 07 reflects the legally relevant part of the software and XX are numbers reflecting minor changes to the non-legally relevant part of the software. The software version is shown in the start-up window when the instrument is in warm-up mode and can also be displayed at any time upon command. 3.3.2 Security

Legally relevant parameters are protected by a calibration and set-up switch located on the CPU board, installed inside the sealed cabinet. Legally relevant parameters are stored in non volatile memory and the legally relevant software is stored in the EPROM.

4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND INTERFACES

4.1 Interfaces

The instrument may have any of the following interfaces:

RS232 serial ports

4.2 Peripheral devices

The instrument may be connected to any peripheral device that has been issued with a test certificate or parts certificate by a Notified Body responsible for Annex B (MI-006) under Directive 2004/22/EC in any Member State and bears the CE marking of conformity to the relevant directives; or

A peripheral device without a test certificate may be connected under the following conditions:

it bears the CE marking for conformity to the EMC Directive;

it is not capable of transmitting any data or instruction into the weighing instrument, other than to release a printout, checking for correct data transmission or validation;

it prints weighing results and other data as received from the weighing instrument without any modification or further processing; and

it complies with the applicable requirements of Paragraph 8.1 of Annex I.

5 APPROVAL CONDITIONS

The securing mark may be either:

a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or

an official mark of a verification officer.

7 ALTERNATIVES

7.1 Having the instrument fitted with a transport system designated “R chain” and consisting of two, ¼ inch, plastic chains instead of rollers to support and drive the conveyor belts. The chains slide on two plastic bars held in position by metallic rods fixed to the instrument. Gaps in the plastic bars ensure the central part of the weigh conveyor is only connected to the live part of the instrument supported by the load cell (Figure 4). 7.2 Having a modified construction: the PL30 indicator is enclosed in a cabinet (Figure 5).

7.3 Having the instrument operating as multi-lanes: each lane is operated by a separate PL30, with a common, larger cabinet (Figure 6).

7.4 Having the LED display, LCD display, functions and alphanumerical keypads of the PL30 indicator replaced by a touch screen (Figure 7).

The indicator includes a long term data storage device and may be fitted with an additional integrated printer. The batch information is stored automatically and the records can be used for legal purposes.

The software is designated WS30, the version number can be displayed by pressing the “apple” icon and shall be 7.01.XX, with XX reflecting non-legally relevant changes.

The instrument may have any of the following interfaces:

RS232 USB Ethernet

7.5 Having the instrument fitted with a transport system designated “Q Series drag chain”, similar in construction to the “R chain” described in section 7.1 but with a modular plastic belt (Figure 8). 7.6 Having the instrument fitted with a 10.2” touch screen HMI (Figure 9).
