Cutting with diamond rocksaws producesa good surface finish, wastes very littlematerial and can be done with highprecision. This makes excavator diamondsaws highly suitable for mining andquarrying stone, including stone of highhardness (eg. basalt, granite). With dualblade saws, or single blade saws withadjustableoffsetextension,parallelcutsofhighprecisioncanbeachieved.Where there isnocoolingwateravailableand/orthematerialisnottoohard,carbidetippedsawscanbeused.Forcompressivestrengthbellow40MPa these are just asfast as diamond and require much lessoperatorskillthandiamond.

Echidnahasdeveloped2distinctkindsofdiamondbladerocksaws.Forgeneralexcavationworkssuchasbulkexcavationsandtrenching,werecommendthestandardrangeofEchidnadiamondrocksaws.Theserocksawscanalsobeusedforcuttingothermaterialssuchasbitumen,concreteorwood.

Echidnadeveloped its rangeof high-speeddiamond rocksaws for demolitions, road cutting andotherapplicationsthatdonotrequiregreatdepthofcutandwhereeconomicalsmallbladesarethebestoption.

Thebladesof thehigh-speedmachines spin faster than the standard rocksawsmaking themapowerfulandeconomicalchoiceforcuttingconcrete,rock,bitumenandasphalt.

Withtheirhighrotationspeed,theserocksawsusemuchsmallerbladesthanthestandarddiamondbladerocksaws.Thismakesthemlesscumbersometohandle,lesslikelytobedamagedandmoreeconomical,asthecostofthediamondbladesdecreasesrapidlywithdecreasingdiameter.

Tungsten - carbide Rocksaws

Tungsten-carbiderocksawsaresuitableforearthmoving,excavation,quarryingandmining.Theycancutmedium-hard,softandclayrichmaterials.Although slower and less efficient than diamond tipped saws for hardmaterials, the tungsten-carbidetippedrocksawshavesomeadvantages:

• Damagedorwornpickscanbeeasilyreplaced.• Noneedforcoolingwaterduringcutting.• Bettersuitedforsoftmaterialsthandiamondsaws.• Lowerrequirementonoperator'sskill.

Echidnahastungsten-carbiderocksawmodelsavailableforexcavatorsfrom8-80tonnes.Theyaredesignedtominimiseweightandbecompactinsize,whilehavingarobustconstruction.Wehavemanyoptionsavailabletotailorthemtoyourapplicationsuchasextensionsforcuttingoutsideoftracksandthecuttingoptimiser.


Features

Fastactingautomaticbrake

Echidna rocksaws have an inbuilt hydraulicbraking system. It engages automaticallywhenhydraulicpressuredropsbelowacertainpre-setlevel.Thismeansitoperateseveninemergencysituationssuchaslossofoilfromabrokenhose.The brake system has nomechanical parts.Thismeansnowear,noabrasivedustandnomaintenance.Italsolocksthebladeduringtransport.

DoubleSwivelingShield

The protective shield on Echidna DiamondSaws is made up of two independentassemblies.Theinnershieldrotatesby360º(fullcircle)aroundtheblade.Itisconstructedsothatitsouterrimsitsflushwiththeouterfaceofthecuttingblade.Theouterguardswivelsaroundthe inner shield independently by approx.+/-45º.Withthisarrangement it ispossible toopentheshieldangletocovermostofthebladeinsituationswhere surrounding propertymustbewellguardedfromthecutdebris.Theouterguardprovidesfullprotectionfromboth sides of the cutting blade. The outerguardcanberemovedwhencuttingalongaboundarywallisrequired.

Reversiblebladerotation

All Echidna diamond saws except of D1Jcomewith reversible blade rotation.Whenconnectedtoanaugeranothertwodirectionalcircuit,thedirectionofbladerotationcanbechangedatanytime.Thisallows control of thedirection inwhichcutdebrisisthrown.Thechoiceofrotationdirection isabsolutelyessential forhorizontal cutting,asonemustcutagainstthedirectionofbladespin.

BearingHubConstruction

The construction of the front bearing huband the sealing arrangement of all Echidnadiamond saws provides protection againstanydirtenteringthebearingspace,andevenallowsthesawtobeusedfullysubmergedinwater.Thebearinghubisrobustenoughtosupportmultiple blades, with spacers, for slab andtrenchcutting.

WoodCutting&StumpGrindingAttachment

The high speed and the robust bearingassembliesofallEchidnasawsfromsizesD1toD6areconstructedtowithstandlargeaxialandradialloadswhichareneededforstumpgrindingandwoodcutting.Echidna offers stump grinding attachmentsthatcanbemountedonasawinsteadofthediamond blade. The diamond saw can thusbeconvertedinminutestoanefficientstumpgrinderwithalltheadvantagesofanexcavatormounted tool, ie reach, flexibility,poweretc.


RotatingHeadBracket

Aswivelingheadbracketthatallowsthesawtoberepositionedfrom left torightcutandviceversa,withouttheneedtodisconnectitfromtheexcavator.A manual version si an optional extra forEchidna Diamond Rocksaws in the D1, D2and D3 series that is particularly useful inexcavationswhereaccessistight.FormachinesizesD4andhigherthisfunctionismotorisedforsafetyreasons.

HighSpeedCutting

The high-speed (HS) series diamond sawsarecapableofspinningthebladeatuptoanincredible4800rpm.Thisallowsthemtodriveverysmalldiameterbladesforpowerfulandeconomicalcuttingofsteel reinforcedconcreteandasphalt,whichoftendonotrequiregreatcuttingdepth,butwheretipspeedisofparamountimportance.Thehigh-speedEchidna rocksawswill easilyoutperformadiamondroadsaw.Bladesas small as 400mmdiameter canbeusedandyet thehighpressurecapabilityofthesesawsgivesthemenoughtorquetodrivea1200mmcuttingblade.

CoolingSystemforHighSpeedCutting

High speed cutting, such as is required forcuttingofsteel-reinforcedconcreteorasphalt,generates heat. This substantially shortensthelifeoftheblade.Echidna has developed a water jet systemincorporated into the safety shield, thatallowsforlargeflowsofwaterwhenneededandprovidesoradjustmentof thewater jetdirectiontosendthewatertoexactlywhereitisneeded.

The Echidnamultidirectional cutting heads areforsituationswhencuttingisneededatanangleother than vertical, i.e. perpendicular to theexcavator linkage pins. Echidna has developeda range of cutting heads that rotate and slideaboutandalongoneormoreaxes.This is particularly needed in tunnelling,demolitionandquarryingworks.

Echidnahasreleasedoneofthemostsignificantdevelopmentsinthefieldofmobilerockcutting,concretecuttinganddemolitionworks:aCuttingOptimiserforrocksawssuchasthoseusedwithexcavator.Itofferstheseadvantages:

This hydraulic servo control system takes overfromtheoperatorincontrollingthefeedrateoftherocksaw,beitadiamondorcarbidesaw.Thedeviceautomaticallydetectsthepresenceof

anactivetool(egarocksaw)ontheexcavator.Whenthereisnorocksawpresent,theexcavatorfunctionslikewithouttherocksaw.

Whenarocksaw isactivated, i.e.cuttingbladeismade to spin, theoperatorbrings thebladeslowly into contact with the rock, concreteor othermaterial to be cut and the servounitautomatically detects the rock and takes overthecontroloftherocksawmovement.

Nomoreexhaustingoperatorhoursconcentratingon fine control of the joy stick. The operatorsimply engages the appropriate joy stick into“fullthrottle”positionandtheOptimiserdoeshiswork.WhenthejoystickisreleasedtheOptimiserautomaticallyandinstantlydisengages.
