All eyes on Nkabini primary schoolNOMPENDULO NGUBANE>>nompendulo.ngubane@myecho.co.za
COMING from a history of arondavel, Nkabini PrimarySchool is now drawing
attention in the Mafunze area inElandskopthankstoapersonalisedschool gate.
The smell from the garden tellsa story that both the vegetable andflower gardens are nursedproperly.
Principal of the schoolBhekani Ndlovu took the Echoback to 1961, when the schoolwas simply the rondavel ofAbsalom Nkabini, the founder ofthe school.
He also added that while theschool was operating, theNgcobo clan had an argumentwith the Nkabini family as theyclaimed that a piece of landwhere the school is built belongedto the Ngcobo family (both families
in Mafunze). In 1970, when the school
needed more space toaccommodate children, a newbuilding was erected which iswhere the school stands today.
“The school was built ofplanks and it was like that up until1994, when renovations started. We have added three more blockswhich has allowed the school togrow to 925pupils fromGradeR toGradeseventhisyear.Wenowhavea library and computer laboratorythat offers computer studies tomembers of the community,” hesaid.
Not onlyhas the school changedits look, but the academic resultsare satisfactory, he added.
“We have had our pupilsentering competitions such as themaths olympiad and they excel insport. The teachers are also doinga great job in making sure that thepupilsare taughtaccordingly,” saidNdlovu.

WHILE employment has increasedfrom2.1million in2010to2.4millionin 2014 in KwaZulu-Natal, poverty,
crime and social inequality remain at the coreof the province’s problems.
Speaking at the State of the ProvinceAddress (SOPA) at the Royal Showgrounds onFriday, Premier Senzo Mchunu said povertyand inequality remain persistent, with thepercentage of people in the province livingbelow the food poverty line of R318 permonthhaving risen from25% in2010 to28% in2014.
He raised concerns about the escalatingcrime rate in the province which impactsnegatively on economic growth. Mchunu saidthatasa result, a total of130police stationsarecurrently being evaluated to identifychallenges and shortfalls so as to assist inimproving policing in the province.
Hesaid thatgovernment isconcernedaboutthe escalation of farm murders and tensionbetween commercial farmers and farmtenants or labourers.
“Theprovincehasseenan increaseover thelast year in crimes related to murder, stocktheft, attemptedmurder, assaultandarson.Wetherefore call for intensified action frompolicingandcriminal justice structures to stemthe tide of such crime,” he said.
Mchunu called on the private sector to joinforces with the government in order to be ableto grow the economy.
Meanwhile leader of the DA in the KZNLegislature, Sizwe Mchunu, has cited theemployment figures as being misleading, asaccording to their calculations unemployment
has increased by 5.7% over the 2013/2014period.
“In line with provincial government’s 2030vision, economic growth rate was lower thanexpected, social inequality figures remainedstagnant at 17% and consistently high crimelevels continue to destabilise and limitinvestment in the province.
“Out of the unemployment statistics, thepremier did not make a reference that theyrelate to 70% of the youth in our province.”
IFPMPLBlessedGwalasaid thePremierdidnottouchonimportantissues, sayingthatwhilea major portion of the budget will be given tothe education sector, itwill not be used to servethe needs of the people.

“ HE MADE MY ENEMIES COME ANDCONFESS WHAT THEY DONE TO ME”I first heard about Mr Shake on a community radiotalk show. I took his number down and booked anappointment. He charged me to read my fortune. Iwas shocked when he told me my name, and my hus-band’s name. Mr Shake saw that my husband and Iwere fighting. He mentioned that my husband was in-volved with another woman which I couldn’t believe. He then showed me the other woman in a mirror andI was shocked!! I had lived for 10 years with unhappi-ness in my marriage until now. Mr Shake cast a spelland the other women separated with my husbandand later both confessed to me. Today we live happywith respect and no fighting after Mr Shake bindedhim to me. I recommend him to others who are suf-fering and regard him as my guide. My husband hasbeen to him and his business has improved.

Endless fireworksexpected in theSoweto derbyTHE much-talked about
andpopularSowetoderbybetween the two South
African giants, Orlando Piratesand Kaizer Chiefs, is going to bea humdinger.
The two most followedSoweto teamswill lock horns onSaturday, 3pm at FNB Stadiumand two former players of bothsides have made theirpredictions of the outcome.
Pietermaritzburg-born andformer Amakhosi goalkeeperArthur Bartman says the matchis always exciting and no teamwants to lose because of thebragging rights and pride atstake.
Bartmansayscoachesofbothteams,EricTinklerofPiratesandStuart Baxter (Chiefs), won’thave any difficulties inmotivating players.
“Just to play for those teamsis a privilege and to play in thehistorical Soweto derby it’s anhonour on its own.
Players get motivated for thewhole week prior to the match.
“If you attend the training
sessions for both teams you canactually see it in the players bodylanguage.
“The atmosphere stay tense forthe whole week,” says Bartman.
Bartman predicts Amakhosiare likely to walk away aswinners because they started on
the positive note in the season andare still leading the pack.
“Let’s admit it, Chiefs startedon a high note. They are stilllog leaders and expected to takethe game as leaders or aspotential league champions.
“I personally think Chiefs willwin it,” said Bartman.
Former Pirates defender andLamontville Golden Arrowsassistant coach Bheka Phakathi
strongly believes Bucs willeventually win it because they canscore goals.
“If you look at all Chiefsgames, they are only good ormaybe perfect in set-pieces likecorners and free kicks.
“On the other side Piratesmidfielders are all creators andtheir strikers are scoring goalseveryday.
“SoChiefs are likely todependontheir tall defenders or keepon praying hard that they receivea lot of free kicks or corners.
“There is no ways, Pirateswill take it on Saturday,” saidPhakathi.
Pirates coach Tinkler says hisonly worry is at the back, but it willbe sorted.
“Wearecurrentlyworkingonourdefence.”
Baxter says the best plan to winagainst their traditional arch-rivalswill be to step up the gear from thefirst whistle.
“Weneed toputpressureon theirdefence andwork hard from the on-set.”
