The Recycling Drop-off Center accepts the same materials as those accepted at

the curb but separated into the following categories:

COMMINGLED CONTAINERS Glass bottles & jars Aluminum cans, pie pans & clean aluminum foil Steel (tin) cans & empty aerosol cans Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs and screw-top

Below is Eco-Cycles Dirty Dozen hit list of the worst recyclingcontaminants that must NOT go in your grey Single-Streamrecycling cart. (Scrap metal, automotive batteries & shreddedpaper ARE accepted at the Drop-off Center, but NOT in yourcurbside cart.) Please help make recycling a success by keepingthese materials OUT.

Tree Limb Diversion CenterThe Tree Limb Diversion Center is co-located at the Recycling Center. Residents can bring tree branches & leaves at no charge during

business hours. Residents outside the City of Longmont will be charged a small fee based on volume.Open Mon. Wed., 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.; Thurs Sat. 8:30 a.m. 5:45 p.m. Closed Sunday.

PAPERBOARD & SHREDDED PAPER**NOTE: Shredded paper is NOT accepted at the curb. It is ONLYaccepted at the Drop-off Center. See #3 in The Dirty Dozen below tolearn why.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS ACCEPTED AT THEDROP-OFF CENTER ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDETHESE ITEMS IN YOUR CURBSIDE BIN. Shredded paper (please include in the paperboard bin) Scrap metal Motor/automotive oil (must be in securely-sealed,

see-through, one-gallon containers) Cooking oil (must be in securely-sealed,

see-through, one-gallon containers) Automotive batteries (household batteries are NOT accepted)

1.NO Plastic Bags 5.NO Hazardous Waste 9.NO Lids or CapsLeft on Containers

    10.NO Liquids

    11.NO Ceramics orNon-Recyclable Glass

    12.NO Frozen Food Boxes

    6.NO Diapers orBioHazardous Waste

    7.NO Non-RecyclablePlastics

    8.NO Plastic Lidsor Caps

    2.NO Materials inPlastic Bags

    3.NO Shredded Paper

    4.NO Scrap Metal

Plastic bags are the WORST con-taminant in the recycling cart. Theyget wet and dirty and cannot berecycled. Plastic bags with a #2 or

#4 CAN be recycled at CHaRM (seePage D) or at participating grocerystores if they are clean, dry andempty. Find grocery store recyclinglocations at www.ecocycle.org/htrg.

Hazardous waste such as paint, automotive fluids, car batteries andpesticides must be taken to the BoulderCounty Household Hazardous Waste

Facility, NOT the Recycling Center. Call303.441.4800 for more information.

Left on the bottle, caps and lidskeep liquid inside the container(see item #10). Please removeand recycle metal caps and jarlids separately. Please throw awayplastic lids and caps!

When we compact bottles forshipping, liquids drip and splatter, creating a sticky, smelly mess onthe sorting floor. Please completelyempty and quickly rinse out allcontainers before recycling.

Ceramics, china, dishes, mirrors, lightbulbs, Pyrex, porcelain and window glassshould not go in the cart! Their differentmelting points and chemical compositionswill ruin new glass bottles. If our buyer seesjust one of these on the top of a load ofglass, the entire load could be rejected.

Paperboard boxes that were designed forfrozen foods, such as frozen pizza andentrees, have a plastic polymer sprayed onthem to protect against freezer burn. That same coating prevents the box frombreaking up in the recycling process. These materials are not recyclable ORcompostable.

Syringes, needles, diapers andother sanitary products are notrecyclable. Visitwww.ecocycle.org/htrgfor information about handlingsharps safely.

While we have added new plasticitems, many plastics are still not recy-clable because there is no market toaccept them. Plastic lids, Styrofoamand any other plastics not listed inthese guidelines are not recyclable.

Plastic lids and caps are NOTrecyclable on or off the bottle.

Workers have to slow theconveyor belts to rip open bagsthat contain recyclables andthen add the bag to the heapof bags bound for the landfill. These inefficiencies waste timeand money.

Shredded paper is too small to

sort. The pieces get wet, gumup the sorting equipment andcause it to malfunction. Recycleshredded paper in the binmarked Paperboard at eitherthe Longmont or BoulderRecycling Drop-off Center.

Scrap metal items of any size shouldnot go in your curbside cart. Theseitems cause excessive damage tothe recycling equipment. Pleasetake these materials to either theBoulder or Longmong RecyclingDrop-off Centers and look for thebin marked Scrap Metal.
