FOOD CHAIN

Page 2: Ecology report

FOOD CHAIN the sequence of transfers of matter and energy in the form of food from organism to organism

Food chain is the sequence of who eat whom in the biological community to obtain nutrition

Page 3: Ecology report

FOOD WEB is a series of multiple, overlapping food chains.

Food chains intertwine locally into a food web because most organisms consume more than one type of animal or plant.

TROPHIC LEVELEach step in the flow of energy through an ecosystem is known as a TROPHIC LEVEL.

As energy moves from one trophic level to the next, most of the useful energy (90%) is lost as heat (second law of thermodynamics).

The trophic level of an organism is the position it holds in a food chain.

FOOD CHAIN starts with:The primary energy source- SUN

Primary Producer- autothrops

Primary Consumer- Hervibores

Secondary Consumers

Tertiary Consumers

Quaternary Consumers
