In the 1980s, several people, including Christopher Beer and Father Teddy Rogers, began discussing the necessity for an organization designed to assist the ageing population in Zimbabwe. In 1986, Mr. Beer and Father Rogers produced their first action plan, which led to the foundation of HelpAge Zimbabwe two years later as an affiliate of HelpAge International. Dr. Nhongo joined in 1992 as its first director. That same year, the organization instituted Radio Zimbabwe, which assisted in publicity efforts for raising the funds necessary to carry out this work. Now, HelpAge Zimbabwe continues to expand in its mission of serving those of advanced age in the country, providing them with better health care and improving their overall quality of living.
