To understand the equatorial climate.
WALT
WILFAll: to be able to describe the daily pattern of the equatorial climate and interpret the climate graph.
Most: to be able to give reasons for the equatorial climate and describe its location.
Some: To be able to suggest reasons why height can affect different places with the same latitude
JKE
WILF
1) Describe the daily pattern of the climate .
2) Interpret a climate graph.
3) Give reasons for the equatorial climate and describe its location.
4) Give reasons why height can affect different places
with the same latitude.

StarterImagine you had to spend a day in this rainforest. What would the weather like?
JKE
Describe the location of the equatorial climate.

Killer question 1Answer activity 1 and 2 from worksheet 1.3
Why are temperatures always high on the Equator?Describe the daily pattern of the equatorialClimate.

Killer question 2

Look for patterns in the temperature dataAsk yourself the following:
Is the temperature the same all year round? If it is different, how many seasons does the location experience? Which season is the warmest? Is it warm (10 to 20°C), hot (20 to 30°C) or very hot (30°C)? Which season is the coolest? Is it mild (0 to 10°C), cold (-10 to 0°C) or very cold (below -10°C)?
What is the range of temperature? (Subtract the minimum temperature from the maximum temperature).
Look for patterns in the rainfall dataAsk yourself the following: Does the rainfall occur all year round? What is the pattern of the rainfall? Check which season (s) is/are drier or wetter than others. What is the total annual rainfall? Add each month's total together to get the annual total.
Then put the rainfall and temperature information together - what does it tell you about this place?

Peer Assessment 2 Response

Altitude
Mountains make it possible for snow to be found atthe equator and for one side of a mountain range toexperience one of the world's wettest climates, whilethe other side is arid. It has been said that rising 300m in altitude provides the equivalent of moving 350 miles towards the pole at sea level in terms ofclimate.
The higher the place is above sea level the colder it will be. For every 100m You climb the temperature will drop by 1C. (The adiabatic lapse rate). This happens because as altitude increases, air becomes thinner and is less ableto absorb and retain heat.
