Dear Parents/Guardians,
Finally Spring has arrived at Edenbrook Hill. Our students are making
the most of this fine weather. They have been watching the newly
installed birdfeeders for feathered guests, looking after tad-poles
found in a local pond, and playing active games of soccer and skip-
ping with friends outside.
It was fabulous to see so many of our parents on April 30th at our
Spring Concert, “Project Edenbrook Hill”. Hopefully they were in-
spired by our Eco-message. The performers did an outstanding job
entertaining and educating their audience. A big thank-you to our
dedicated students, passionate staff and supportive parent commu-
nity! A special „shout out‟ to Mrs. Cotton, our fantastic music teacher,
who will be retiring in June. Her expertise and passion will be sorely
missed. We wish Mrs. Cotton well in her retirement.
We know there have been some questions about the new Health and
Physical Education curriculum due to be implemented in September
2015. We encourage you to check out the resources on the Ministry
of Education web site at http://news.ontario.ca/edu/en/2015/02/
ontario-releases-updated-health-physical-education-curriculum-parent-
resources.html to familiarize yourself with the curriculum. Please be
reassured that the staff at Edenbrook Hill are professional, caring
teachers.
Both the Superhero Move-a-Thon and Jump Rope for Heart were
fantastic events. Thank-you for supporting us with these fundraising
events. We raised money for good causes and had a lot of fun at the
same time.
We would like to recognize four of our dedicated staff members for
20 years of service to the Peel District School Board, Mrs. Carter
(Teaching Assistant), Mr. Elston (Teacher), Mrs. Taylor (Teacher) and
Mr. Xavier (Custodian).
In honour of Asian Heritage Month we would like to leave you with
the following quote from Gandhi. “You must be the change you
wish to see in the world”.
Sincerely,
Colleen Lowry Nancy McCartney
Principal Vice Principal
Welcome to Kindergarten On May 28th at 6:15 we will be meeting our newest students.
All students born in 2011, starting school in September, are
invited to come and visit Edenbrook Hill. These new students
along with their parents will be invited to participate in Kin-
dergarten activities and meet the teaching team. Welcome
to Kindergarten is always an exciting event and we look for-
ward to meeting everyone and answering all your questions.
Move-a-Thon Fundraiser
Thanks to all the Edenbrook Hill Families for their continued
support! Our Move-a-Thon successfully raised over $2200
to support our School Success Initiatives. We want to thank
Patricia Baboolal for donating skipping ropes to our Raffle
Prizes and Mr. Lee for organizing the fantastic light show for
the event. DJ Ruscica led the school with some fabulous su-
per hero related moves! The day would not have been the
same without everyone’s support.
Our grand prize winner in the K-2 division was Mikayla P and
the grand prize winner in the 3-5 division was Noah C. Enjoy
your new bikes.
On the Road Again: How to Keep Your Cyclist Safe
Here are some tips you can review with your child to ensure
bike season gets off to a great start: The right fit
children should be able to straddle the bike with both feet on
the ground
the helmet should fit—not too loose or too tight
Get noticed
a young child's bike should be equipped with a bell and reflector
Follow the rules
no riding on busy streets
no riding at night
Stop for all STOP signs
Actions that cause injuries
driveway ride out—not stopping and looking both ways before
entering the street
running the stop sign
turning without warning
cycling in the dark
following the leader—one child goes through a stop sign or
misses a parked car but the second cyclist doesn't

Edenbrook Hill School Council
Our Mission is to “work to-
gether to enhance the quality
of our children’s education,
promote an inclusive school en-
vironment and foster positive
relationships within the com-
munity”.
If you would like to join us, our
next meeting is June 4th at
6:15 pm in the school library.
All money raised by the school
council is carefully allocated by
the council to support our key
school success goals of im-
proved numeracy understanding
for students, the effective use
of 21 century technology to
improve student engagement
and learning outcomes and fos-
tering a positive school climate.
For example, funds have been
used to pay for the “Grow Pro-
gram”, classroom math games
and recess equipment.
Internet Safety
You may have noticed a police car in our driveway. That’s
because the police officer spent time with students in
Grade 3, 4 & 5 teaching them internet safety. Ask your
child what he/she learned from the officer. Here are three
key ideas that were presented to the students:
1. Use private settings in all social media programs
2. Never give out personal information
3. Seek help if there is someone bothering you on-line
4. Seek permission from an adult before using social me-
dia

Family Math Problem The Ants Crash Mrs. Lowry’s Picnic? Mrs. Lowry has a tasty lunch laid out on a blanket in her backyard. A group of ants stumble across the food. They need a plan to carry the sandwiches away quickly. For little mathematicians there are 2 ants and 4 sandwiches. For bigger mathematicians there are 4 ants and 2 sandwiches. For sophisticated mathematicians there are 4 ants and 6 sandwiches.
