  • Awards IILA Launch On Tuesday 26 June a combined assembly of Glendale Technology High School, Argenton Public School, Elermore Vale Public School, Glendale East Public School and Edgeworth Public School will be held to formally recognise the amalgama‐

on of these schools into the Innova on, Inspira on and Learning Alliance or the IILA. The Innova on, Inspira on and Learning Alliance has been formed primarily so that students from all these schools have access to greater opportuni es for learning and so that teachers from all schools can work collabora vely to provide a true con nuum of learning from preschool to Year 12. School leaders from each of the schools, special guests and staff will be in a endance for the signing of the agreement and the unveiling of the IILA logo and banner. The IILA logo will be introduced to our school le erhead from Term 3. Uniform Procedures Edgeworth PS Uniform Procedures consistent with the expecta ons of the NSW Department of Educa on and Communi es School Uniform Policy and the School Uniforms in NSW Government Schools Guidelines was endorsed last week by School Council and now in the process of implementa on. The Uniform Pro‐cedures represent the final stage of the uniform review process conducted by an elected team and ensures the adherence of procedures across the whole com‐munity. The new uniform changes, and subsequent prac ces including the im‐plementa on of a uniform shop and online ordering has been very successful. The manner in which our students arrive at school each day, proudly wearing their school uniform is testament to the success of the process and a credit to students and parents. The uniform procedures are available on the school website www.edgeworth‐p.schools,nsw.edu.au or made available in hard copy from the office. Term Assembly Our end of term assembly will be held on Friday 19 June at 11.30am in the school hall where a variety of performances from all stages will be showcased and a number of awards will be presented to students, staff and community. I hope you are able to join us for this occasion. Jennifer Parke Principal

Late Arrival & Early Pick Up of Students Parents/carers are advised that children who arrive late to school need to come to the office to get a “Late Arrival” note, regardless of whether they are accompanied by an adult. If you are picking up your child early from school, parents/carers or a designated person MUST come to the office to get an “Early Leaver” note before collecting their child. Teachers will not allow your child to accompany you unless you provide them with the Early Leaver note.

  • Aboriginal Updates Students in Kindergarten and Years 1 and 2 will par ci‐pate in a weekly 1 hour Story and Art session facilitated in class by Mr Kelly. In Week 1, students were read the story book Ernie

Dances to the Didgeridoo and were given a demonstra on by Mr Kelly on how to make and play a Didgeridoo. Students were shown how to make bird calls and different rhythms they par cu‐larly enjoyed the story of the dingo and the kangaroos. Each student then completed a colouring in of a Didgeridoo and were encour‐aged to use different colours and pa erns based on the noise they heard through the Didgeridoo. In Week 2, students learnt about Emus and had the opportunity to put their hands on Emu eggs and feathers, and completed a ‘Design’ an egg ac vity. Edgeworth PS has also developed a seniors and juniors Didgeridoo group. They will meet twice a week to learn the skills and techniques needed to play the Did‐geridoo. We are preparing the students and ge ng them ready for a combined performance with the schools choir later in the term. Mr Kelly is coordina ng a ‘Building Leaders’ program for boys in Years 4 & 5 which aims to support the students in their school work, behaviour and personal responsibili es on a weekly basis. The students will meet twice a week and will work towards se ng goals focused on educa on, health and self awareness. I will soon be sending out an invita on for parents and families to join me for a meet and greet session and a chance to discuss how I can support your child/children during their me at Edgeworth PS. Ray Kelly Aboriginal Educa on Worker (AEW) Library News Thank you to all the happy customers who bought books at our book sale last week. It was amazing how quickly those books walked off the tables and shelves. We sold $102.40 worth of books which will allow Mrs Mitchell to purchase at least eight new books for the library. Congratula ons to these students and the parents who supported them to com‐plete their Premier's Reading Challenge: Brock Simpson, Reagan Simpson, Jessi‐ca Xu, Aidan Griffith, Hayden Bryant, Kynyn Hellyer, Tiarne Hagan, Mikayla Stand‐en and Aja Rippon. That makes 27 students who have completed their challeng‐es. Keep those reading logs coming in ‐ eight more weeks to go. Mrs Mitchell Librarian

  • SPORT Junior Knights Knockout Rugby League The Edgeworth PS Junior Rugby League team took part in the Junior Knights KO on Thursday 4 June at Learmonth Park, Hamilton. For some in the team, including Noah, Emily, Kayleisha and Tyson, it was their first experience playing compe ve rugby league. Edgeworth PS was drawn in Pool D and Sam, Mika and Jerome played well and began the day with a 12‐8 win over Raymond Terrace PS. That was before a great 12‐4 victory over the tradi onally strong St Joseph’s Taree, with strong games from Jerome, Noah, Jason and Loghan. An 8‐0 win over Telarah PS with Max, Andrew, Dimi and Flynn having their best games. Their final pool match was against a very tough Scone PS. Sam starred in the 12‐12 draw, with Scone scoring a er the siren to e up the match. This saw Edgeworth finish second in their pool and progress to the quarter finals for the second year in a row. Unfortunately in the quarter final, Edgeworth couldn’t quite get their game in order, even with best efforts from James, Sam and Loghan, we went down 16‐12 to Scone Grammar. Despite the disappointment of ge ng so far, the boys and girls can be ex‐tremely proud of their efforts. All of them played to the best of their ability, and above all had fun. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and family members who came to cheer on the team. Special thanks to Andrew Hodges who took photos throughout the day. • SPORT CONT. PSSA Netball In the past 2 weeks the netball girls have been lucky enough to sneak in 2 games of netball with this horrible weather. Our first PSSA game of the season was a home game against Elermore Vale PS on Friday 29 May. The junior team lost 2‐0 however played very well considering it was their first game together. They were unlucky to lose as the other team only scored their 2 goals in the last 5 minutes. The senior team won 16‐7 and had a fabulous game. Our second game was an away game against Cardiff South PS on Friday 5 June. Again the juniors lost 9‐0 however made lots of improvements from the first game. The senior team won their game 15‐6, the senior team this year is extremely strong and I hope they con nue their excellent game skills for the remainder of the sea‐son. Just a reminder that there is no PSSA this week (12 June) due to Star Struck. Our next game is a home game against Barnsley on 19 June. The senior team will also play on Tuesday 23 June. This is their round 3 game for the state Knockout compe on. They will be playing Taree West PS, who have kindly volunteered to come to our school to play. The me is yet to be determined. As soon as I have a me I will let the community know so that the girls have a won‐derful cheer squad to encourage them on the day. Also this year the PSSA has a website where you can see weekly results and point scores. The link is below. (We are in the Crossroads Draw) h p://je uxton.wix.com/crossroads PSSA Soccer There were mixed results for the Edgeworth PS soccer teams two weeks ago. The Junior soccer team had a convincing 3‐1 victory, playing some a rac ve soccer throughout the match. Unfortunately the Senior team weren’t quite on their game, going down 2‐1. Last Friday, Edgeworth PS played Cardiff South PS and a er a slow start, the junior boys finally started to gel in the la er part of the first half. They then took this teamwork approach into the second half to play much stronger and finish the game with a 4‐0 victory. Down to just 11 players for the en re match, the senior boys played controlled soc‐cer right from the start in what was an excellent display from every player. Edge‐worth PS took the lead 2‐0 before Cardiff South PS were able to capitalise on a rare mistake and put the ball in the back of the net. Towards the end of the game fa‐

gue was evident but Edgeworth PS managed to s ck it out to the end, registering another goal in the process to record a 3‐1 victory. Crossroads Zone Rugby Union Congratula ons to the following Edgeworth PS students who successfully gained selec on in the Crossroads Zone Rugby Union team: Beau Walker, Lauchlyn Spicer‐Douglas, Georgia Chapple, Jack Barlow, Logan Cox, Jake Hodgins, Jerome Weatherall and Jack Hillier. They will now par cipate at the Hunter PSSA Rugby Union trials on Friday June 19. Good luck! Mr Gray and Miss McGrath

  • Environmental News The environmental group started plan ng herbs and vegetable seedlings in our newly built raised garden beds. The students have been maintain‐ing our fruit trees and are looking forward to see‐ing the trees mature and start producing fruit. The SRC Environmental Commi ee visited the Hunter Wetlands Centre to engage in different ac vi es exploring biodiversity and encouraging sustainability. Thank you to Tyler Neilsen, Aja Rippon, Coby Forrest, Ethan Falvey, Imogen Egge, Izabella Towers, Hayden Borrow, Reagan Simp‐son, Ella Kidston and Cooper Griffiths for demon‐stra ng wonderful respect and enthusiasm at the excursion. On 4 June, the SRC Environmental Commi ee and Mrs Emerton a ended an excur‐sion to the Hunter Wetlands Centre to learn about Australia’s environment. When we got there we received a passport including a list of ac vi es that we would be par cipa ng in. The first ac vity we did was ‘Our Australia’ where Ranger Gary talked to us about Aboriginal totems and what each animal meant to the family tribes. We were lucky enough to be able to pat some stuffed animals that were once alive but were sadly killed. We had the opportunity to pat a Powerful Owl the mascot of our school. The next ac vity was called ‘Plan ng for a Be er World’. We planted some shrubs and we also learnt about biodiversity. In the third ac vity we made badges with mo os about the environment. The fourth ac vity was ‘How Green Is My Lunch Box?’ We discussed how much of our lunch box contains waste and then changed our foods to make them waste free. The final ac vity was all about healthy and unhealthy energy. We learnt the importance of using renewable energy sources for a sustainable future. Overall the experience was fantas c and we hope that the younger children get the opportunity next year. Aja Rippon & Tyler Neilsen

Dogs in the School Grounds The New South Wales Compan-ion Animals Act was introduced in September 1998 and is about the welfare of animals, their owners and the broader community. Section 14 of the Act particularly states that dogs are PROHIBITED in SCHOOL GROUNDS (whether or not they are leashed or other-wise controlled). Any visitor to the school is not able to bring their dog into the school grounds but may remain with their leashed dog on the footpath outside the school gates. The exceptions are Assis-tance dogs that are specifically trained to assist those who are sight or hearing impaired. I thank you for your anticipated co-operation in this matter.
