11th Annual Challenge School Auction

From EdiE AlvArEz, PrinCiPAl

Dear Challenge School Families:

To quote the words of TV host Jeff Probst, “The tribe has spoken…” and you are going to have a

wonderful time at this year’s 11th Annual Silent Auction – “Outwit, Outplay, Outbid.”

Thank you so much for joining us in this community event that we all look forward to, as this

event is our main fundraising effort each year. The proceeds from the auction provide financial

support to a vital part of our school community – our para-educators’ salaries. These staff

members work tirelessly to provide a safe, supervised environment for our children at Challenge.

In addition to providing a safe and nurturing environment for the students, using auction funds to

pay for para-educators’ salaries ensures smaller class sizes by allowing us to use district funds for

more classroom teachers. Proceeds are also used to provide teachers with scholarship money to

attend updated staff development at conferences or classes as well as provide financial support for

training and fees for our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP).

Parents are a valued part of our community. Each family generously shares their time and talents

and we are grateful for your contributions. Thank you so much for your participation and support

for our amazing school with your participation, donations, and bidding at our Silent Auction. So

keep that tiki torch lit, stay on “The Island” and “Outwit, Outplay, Outbid!”

Sincerely,

Challenge School Edie Alvarez, Principal 9659 E. Mississippi Ave. Denver, CO 80247720.747.2100 720.747.2183 FAX

Tempting your •sweet tooth are Fried Bananas with Cinnamon and Sugar, and Island-style White Chocolate and Macadamia Cookies.

Closeout

Please bring this •catalog with you to the auction. Upon check-in, you will receive your bidder number. This will be your bidder number for the evening, as well as your number to check out at the end of the evening (or for express check-out).

Payment must be •made the night of the auction, or through express check out. Cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard will be accepted. All sales are final. All items must be removed from The Island on the night of the auction, or picked up in the Volunteer Office on March 16th.

Please inspect items •and gift certificates carefully. While we have attempted to describe items as accurately as possible, these descriptions do not constitute a warranty or guarantee of any kind. We assume no responsi-bility for the condition or quality of items or services provided by individual or corpo-rate donors. The auc-tion committee nor the Challenge School make no guarantee with respect thereto, and accept no liability.

All items are available •for prior inspection. Dollar values included in the item’s descrip-tion are estimates provided by donors and are not warranted by the Challenge School or the auction committee for market value.

You will receive a •receipt with each item that identifies the market value. Check with your tax advisor to see how much of your payment can be used as a charitable contribution.

The Silent Auction •will open at 6PM sharp on Saturday, March 14TH, 2009. The tables will begin to close at 7:15PM and thereafter as noted in the Pro-gram. Table closings will be announced. When a table closes, table monitors will determine the win-ning bid for each item.

Each Silent Auction •item will be displayed on a table with a bid sheet that describes the items and lists its catalog number. Please read the de-scription to make sure you are bidding on the correct item. All sales are final.

To place a bid, simply •write your bidder number on the bid sheet (no names, please). The minimum bid will be indicated on the sheet along with the incremental bid amount. Bids must be made in the speci-fied bid increment to be valid. You may bid as many times as you like on an item. Our auctioneer may inter-vene prior to closing the auction on an item to build excitement.

When you enter your •bidder number, you have executed a legally binding offer to the Challenge School PTCO for purchase of the item for the amount you entered.

The Live Auction will •begin at approximate-ly 8:30PM. Most items will be on display by the staging area. Our live auctioneer is the one and only Challenge School Teacher of the Year, Mr. Dan Smith.

Live auction bids are •placed by raising your bidder number and being recognized by the auctioneer, who will be assisted by “stompers” Mim and Rica Shea. The auctioneer has the sole discretion to determine bidding increments for each item and shall be the sole and final author-ity to determine the successful bidder, or to re-sell the item.

Bidders must use a •bidder number to bid. Payment for Live Auction items must be made at check-out, which will begin immediately after the Live Auction. Silent Auction and Live Auction items can be paid for at the same time.

Winning bidders must •pay for their items through express check-out or at close-out, which begins immediately after the Live Auction ends.

No one will be autho-•rized to take any items from the premises until they are paid for.

Winning bidders must •pick up their items after closing out.

The business community, families, friends, and staff of the Challenge School have donated all items in this catalog. “Outwit, Outplay, Outbid” is a chance for you to purchase the goods and services, and enjoy a fun-filled evening while supporting your school. If every family contributes $183 on the night of

the auction, we will meet our goal of $75,000. These funds pay the salary of our (6) Teacher’s Assistants, Faculty Professional Development, and the ability to fund a Mobile Technology Lab.
