Edition 31 Readwell Book Trolley Our Readwell trolley, very kindly given to us from this charity which together with Readathon is part of Read for Good, is con- tinuing to be a brilliant success with children and teenagers. The selection that are chosen is excellent and the staff love unpacking the next set to see the new range, enjoy sharing them with the children and long to read some of the longer books themselves Another feature of Readwell is organ- ising a professional storyteller to come and work with children in the schoolroom and on the ward to demonstrate his love of reading and stories to them and promote a love of reading through it. We were very lucky to have Michael, our Storyteller, twice this term. He came in once when it was National Storytelling Week and then again for World Book Day. Here he is above with Luis and Dylan acting out the story that they created. Playing phase 3 phoneme bingo with R and KS1 children and sharing a book with Hugo. SMSC—cultural A pupil was studying China at her school, so one of the teachers brought in her Mother’s resources from when she her-self lived there as a child. These included tiny shoes that women even up to the 1930s (in the countryside) wore on their bound feet. The pupil was fascinated by their intricate embroidered designs and amazed how they could walk on them! Other items were silk clothes for people and for dolls, toys, shopping baskets.

Here Ann is painting a normal size silk shoe that she enjoyed trying on. Wellbeing topics have been Holocaust Memorial Day, Safer Internet Day, Black Awareness Week. Water purity, Celebrating Spring.

Solar Eclipse 2015 This is a rare phenomenon in which the sun is completely obscured by the moon. Here the pupils are using a pinhole on card to look at the eclipse in a safe manner. In the picture of the eclipse, a paler crescent shape of the sun can be seen on the left hand side as the brighter moon has nearly cov-ered most of the sun’s surface.
