How time flies…the first quarter has already gone by. There was lots of news from Westhausen and this month we will continue dynamically.
In April, our HR department invites scholars to an information evening for professions in Lauchheim. Additionally, the Apex Tool Group takes part in the “Girls’ Day” for the first time. And of course, we congratulate all high-school graduates for their passed final exams. The Apex Tool Group supports activi-ties related to this occasion such as a yearbook.
Just as in the previous edition we present your contact persons in our compa-ny, this month the Service team. In addition, there is another new product from the Apex Tool Group: The New Cleco H-Series. New is also the “fixed price repair” program which will save you costs, time and unexpected surprises.
In this current edition, we also show you more exciting application samples. Did you sit in a chair lift during the past skiing season? Then please have a look at what our tools can do for your safety. Are you thinking of the dirty dishes after the Easter holiday feast with horror? We also have our fingers in the pie when it comes to dishwashers. And in cooperation with the company of OHO we were able to engineer a custom-made product for a forklift manufacturer which will take care of reliable joints in the future.

Upto ten interested girls can have a look at typically male-dominated pro-fessions on April 26th, 2012 between 8:00 and 15:00 o‘clock. The Apex Tool Group offers insights into the fol-lowing recognized occupation requi-ring formal training: Mechanotrician, Cutting Machine operator and Logis-tics technician.

The Apex Tool Group takes a share in the tombola of the kindergarten in Kerkingen.
The kindergarten of St. Ottilia church community in Kerkingen sent a very cute thank-you letter for the donator to the ToolTimes Team. The Apex Tool Group had donated some non-cash prizes for this year‘s tombola which will take place on the occasion of the kindergarten‘s festival.
The children, parents and nursery teachers are already looking forward to this very special day and are ho-ping for great weather during this co-lorful festival.

Miele dishwasherSafety relevant tightening processes for appliances

The company of Miele, well-known manufacturer of domestic appli-ances and industrial devices, was looking for a solution regarding the torque-controlled joint of the salt reservoir in their dishwashers.
The tightening process for the salt re-servoir is a very sensitive plastic con-nection which is located in the lower part of the dishwasher. To ensure the correct tightening of the salt reservoir and to avoid the spill of liquid when in use, a defined torque was set. This predefined torque was supposed to be tightened controlled by a cordless tool.
During a testing period of one year, the company of Miele employed our Cleco LiveWire angle screwdriver amongst others.
Our cordless tool convinced the operator due to highest accuracy as well as the easy integration into the existing assembly process. Additio-nally, there is the possibility to ope-rate several cordless Cleco LiveWire screwdrivers with one controller and to document respectively monitor the complete assembly with the integra-ted software. After every joint, a si-gnal shows up displaying the used torque which consequently leads to a controlled assembly.
Due to the evidentiary price/perfor-mance ratio and the good results of the testing period, the company of Miele purchased further Cleco LiveWire screwdrivers.

The new Cleco H-Series We redefine Pulse ToolsIn April 2012, the Apex Tool Group will introduce the new H-Series of the well-known Cleco pulse tools to the market.
In total, the new H-Series will inclu-de 56 models. Low air consumption, extremely long operation time before a necessary maintenance, reaction free performance at excellent repea-tability as well as very low vibration and noise level are just some high-lights which characterize these new tools. The light weight together with the very high performance rate un-derlines the outstanding efficiency of the new pulse tools. All “H-Series” tools provide a solid, ideally positi-oned balancer suspension.
Productivity, quality and ergonomics play an important role selecting the right tool. 28 new shut-off PTHH/PTHHA screwdrivers between seven and 120 Nm fulfill all these characte-ristics and set new standards espe-cially regarding tightening quality. Air supply for the PTHH tools is realized from the bottom through the grip whe-reas all tools are also available in a PTHHA design with air supply from the top. Additionally, the pulse tools can be delivered with square drive or quick change.
The tools convince with a high pulse rate, offer a temperature-indepen-dent repeatability and consequently provide a higher productivity due to their long term stability. If the opera-tor would like to control the shut-off process, all PTHH versions can be connected to the TVP torque verifier with a torque signal kit. Therefore, the operator can count on a very econo-mic process control.
One of the most important new fea-tures of the tool is the speed centri-fugal advance mechanism to opti-mize the performance. This feature prevents the tool from shutting-off too early when applied at a very high speed for a hard joint. Due to the reduction of the speed during the clockwise rotation, there is a very low noise emission and reduced air con-sumption.
All screwdrivers also offer an exhaust regulator to mark the preferred pul-se rate for a hand joint. An automa-tic reserve oil supply allows about five times longer periods for service intervals; this means about 500,000 rundowns can be possible till the next maintenance. The pulse unit with fil-ling indicator additionally provides a visual signal for preventive mainte-nance. The refill time for reserve oil of just a few minutes emphasizes, besides the qualitative and ergono-mic features, once more the producti-ve attributes of this tool. The new tool series fulfills the test criteria of VDI 2649 for pretension measuring.
If the operator does not need the au-tomatic shut-off mechanism, all 28 tools are also available as non-shut-off screwdrivers. The material num-ber is then PHH for air supply from the bottom respectively PHHA for air supply from the top. To be able to separate the different versions, the pistol housing is kept completely in black.
All tools with air supply from the top contain an “A” in the material number and can be run optionally with air sup-ply from the top or from the bottom. If using the air supply from the top, an
optional vibration absorber can be at-tached to improve the vibration level even further.

The Apex Tool Group goes skiingJoints of a chair liftThe skiing season has just en-ded and some fellows might have struggled somewhere between wedges and the move into the “gasthaus”. Nevertheless, have you ever thought about your safe-ty on the way to the slope?
For manufacturers of lift systems, safety is the top priority. Chair lifts carry their passengers at a speed between nine and 18 kilometers per hour. Accordingly, depending on the size of the lift, it transports between 1,500 and 4,000 persons to the peak per hour. This happens in a height between eight and 30 meters. No lift operator could afford an accident un-der these circumstances.
Safety-relevant joints hold the highest priority in these facilities, sometimes even with obligatory documentation through logging. No matter if referring to the columns, the brakes, the elec-tric propulsion engine or the clutch, tightening spots appear in many dif-ferent ways and spots.
For all tasks, the Apex Tool Group of-fers a reliable solution for the assem-bly in the plant:
- Trust in our new pulse tools of the Cleco H-Series (see page 8-9). The-se tools can handle tightening spots with a screw size up to M12/14 at a torque up to 120 Nm and with a free speed up to 3,000/6,000 rpm.- Connect the Cleco H-Series to our TVP-110 torque verifier to control the tightening process. This controller gi-ves you a visual and acoustical OK/NOK signal, displays the tightening process in a graph and stores 1,000 joints.- Alternatively, we offer you our elec-tric screwdrivers of the 18/48-Series from Cleco. With this family, you can work on screw sizes up to M22 at a torque of up to 1,000 Nm.- Connect the Cleco 18/48-Series to our mPro400GC to protocol and do-cument your joints. This controller allows auto-programming and para-meterization, gives you a visual and acoustical OK/NOK signal and mana-ges your tightening spots on a profes-sional basis.

Custom-made products which are necessary for a certain wor-king area are not manufactured in mass-production. Nevertheless, we are able to adapt and design our tools to the desires and needs of each customer.
As an example for our flexibility, we would like to present the recently developed electric pistol screwdri-ver with attached angle drive for high torque requirements. This tool was engineered in cooperation with the companies of SAB Bnl (Belgi-um), Douwes International BV (The Netherlands) and OHO (Germany) for a well-known forklift manufacturer in the Netherlands, Mitsubishi Caterpil-lar Europe BV. The basis is built from an electric pistol screwdriver of the Cleco 48-Series (48EPE150) as well
as a matching angle head (861906). The middle part was developed and assembled by the company of OHO and connects the electric tool with the angle head.

This causes considerable time sa-vings, as approvals for repairs are not necessary anymore and the reali-zation can be carried out without any delay.
The repair range is defined by Apex Tool Group standards. The maxi-mum reliability of the tool is warran-ted throughout the entire economic life. Only original Apex Tool Group spareparts are used in the repairing process.
A fixed price repair allows you a re-duction of your administrative costs since the review of the quotation is not necessary anymore. Furthermo-re, any modification during the re-pairing process does not lead to ad-ditional quotations. This new service makes all your repairs projectable and calculable.
